Bimbo-ism (hand to Goddess), but from the ‘left’!
“Are you a leftist who likes to have their tits out? Do you like to flick off pro-lifers?” Chrissy Chlapecka asks the camera in a 51-second TikTok captioned “BIMBOS, RISE ‼️” In the video, Ms. Chlapecka, a 22-year-old comedian who lives in Chicago and has about 4.6 million TikTok followers, is wearing a tight pink minidress, a pink coat trimmed with faux fur and tall white leather boots; her bleach-blond hair is in pigtails. “Are you good at math?” she asks, scribbling “2+2=<3” into a notebook. She holds a pose while reading a book upside down. “Are you good at reading? Well if you are, how?” At the end of the video, she yells out the window: “I’m a bimbo and I’m proud!”
Ms. Chlapecka’s celebration of the much-maligned category of the “bimbo” is provocative, even shocking. In a recent phone interview, Ms. Chlapecka told me she identifies as feminist but that a lot of feminism needs to be “reworked.” Like critiques of many women of her generation, hers include the historical whiteness of many strains of feminism, its heteronormativity and the persistence of anti-trans voices within the movement today…
One might ask: How could it possibly be feminist to talk about how hot and dumb you are all the time? Women bragging that they can’t do long division has an obviously retrograde quality to it; it can play into juvenile stereotypes even as it attempts to manipulate them. Watching some of these videos can feel like peering into a series of conservative fantasies that have been ever so slightly warped: Is it really leftist for a woman to want to just go shopping and never get a job? But to dismiss this corner of the internet as totally backward would be to miss the point…
‘The point’ being that sexxxay young thangs acting like idiots gets the target NYTimes subscriber hot — under the collar or in the pants, doesn’t matter which.

Damn. Hell, I know hard-core Marxists (Karl, not Groucho), and they call it “the Democratic Party.” The Bimbo Party may well take off – we’re all looking to rock out with our cocks out (sorry, ladies, an unfortunate turn of phrase from my misspent youth), and fuck politics anyway. one of the things that continues to be readily apparent is that while there were more than a few people in place to go into motion if the assault on the Capitol had worked more successfully.
If they had found some Congress people or Pelosi or Pence or Schumer and had publicly executed them or assaulted them or tortured them (or their staff or their families), all bets are off… those folks embedded in the Military and scattered throughout the public and private sector would have chimed in and landed on team Trump.
Scary as fuck… and that no one felt compelled to come forward.

So, since it’s an open thread, any other mechanical keyboard geeks/nerds/fetishists/enthusiasts/addicts out there?
I’ve got some Tecsee Snow Globe tactile switches (supposedly a Tecsee Sapphire recolor) on the way, and I’m wondering whether anyone has any experience with them, or have any other switches they’d like to recommend.
I’m looking for something with a good tactile bump – was pretty dissatisfied with Cherry MX Browns, but found Outemu Browns to be surprisingly okay.

@Lacuna Synecdoche: For years and years I used IBM buckling spring keyboards, so I know where you’re coming from. (I’ve still got a couple somewhere.) I’ve got a couple of keyboards with MX Browns. I added some WASD O-rings to them because someone at the office was distracted by the noise of even the Browns.

@eversor: If by we you mean conservatives, then I agree with you.
The problem seems to be that you and I aren’t pulling for the same outcome. Well, less of a problem for me in this case.
Funny, I actually enjoyed the insight from however many threads ago about the moral imperative of domination and all that. Not in those words, but it had a ring to it. That the point is to win and to make others pay, to hell with standards or consistency or consensus. Just we win, you lose. Maybe it’s consistent then that here too it’s all and only about winning – not what comes after, or what it takes. Oh well, your loss, apparently.

@Lacuna Synecdoche: I use a CORSAIR Gaming K70 mechanical keyboard V1 with Cherry MX switches. Only thing I don’t like about it is just how loud it is. Next keyboard will be one of the quieter cherry switches.
Lacuna Synecdoche
@Another Scott:
Yeah, as an old techie, I had some experience with the buckling spring keyboards back in my early-to-mid twenties. Anyway, I tried the o-ring method on cherry browns about three or four keyboards ago, but I thought it just made the keys feel mushy on the bottom-out, without improving anything else.
My latest keyboard is a hot-swappable RK100, replaced the black keycaps with a Carbon theme, and now I’m looking for a better switch – the RK browns are a little too light for my taste, and causing a lot of typos.
Lacuna Synecdoche
Seriously? What’s that like? I had a friend with a Trash 80 when I was a teenager, played with it a few times, but not enough to retain any memory of what the keyboard felt like.
I tried optical clicky blues last December, on the EVGA 20 keyboard, but found the second click on the upstroke so annoying I returned the board. That could have been just a factor with the particular switches EVGA was using though – so I’m not sure I really gave them a fair chance. That said, I decided at the time that I’d stick with tactile switches for a while.
Haven’t tried a low profile keyboard yet. Maybe next time I get a new board, though I suspect that’ll be a while.
Leto
@Lacuna Synecdoche: something that I appreciate is that Best Buy, in their PC gaming section, has a selection of Cherry switches for you to test out. You can get a tactile sense, as well as hear how loud they are. It’s pretty good.

@Cameron: You think that’s bad, get a load of the question PBS’ Judy Woodruff asked of Lisa Desjardins on tonight’s News Hour (lightly paraphrasing):
“What are the Democrats trying to do here?”
So, I guess Cheney and Kinzinger are Dems now. Huh. Good to know.
Desjardins responded not by repeatedly bashing Judy Woodruff over the head with a cartoon skillet, but by responding: “Judy, when you talk to Democrats on the committee…”, making clear that there actually are Republicans participating.

@Lacuna Synecdoche: You probably already know this, but for completeness, you can still get new (updated) Model M keyboards from IBM’s keyboard division (spun off as a separate company years and years ago). I don’t think any keyboard I’ve tried has better feel, except for maybe my mom’s Selectric II. ;-)
Yeah, the O-rings on the Browns do change the feel, but they cut the noise a lot. I got used to them quickly and don’t have accuracy issues with them (at least nothing beyond my normal accuracy issues).
Happy hunting, and good luck!

When he saw the door taped on an earlier round, Wills figured that movers working ealier in the day had left it, so he removed the tape and continued his rounds.
From Wills’ account, each time the tape was across the doorframe, instead of up and down within the frame. That made it easy to spot. Was this sloppy tradecraft? Or sabotage by a member of the break-in team?

Ms. Chlapecka is mostly correct on this, above, in my experience.
The rest leaves me uneasy. You’re right that sexual expression in public spaces gets noticed. I’m also sure I don’t want to call them idiots.
I’m really mindful of being a male Belly Dancer. Y’all will hopefully never know how many people see a belly dancer and make all the assumptions about our intellect — especially when the dancer has breasts — that I’m reading in the quote, and in some of the responses to this article. I get why you’re making it, so no need to @me, as they used to say; it just leaves me cold to read it, esp. since I’ve had to taker a few days away from here due to life events.
Yes, this could all be a Very Bad Idea. Yet I don’t think it’s inherently bad, solely on the basis of her choosing to express what is a fairly culturally standard way of gaining attention, when you’re female-bodied. Lord knows y’all get ignored enough that I hesitate to judge too harshly, with limited data, when someone breaks that mold!
I think it might be bad because of the playing into stereotypes therein. I don’t think you have to “sell” being dim, or not understanding math, in this regard. I know it catches people, and that’s clearly her goal, yet that part rubs me wrong. A key reason, though, is that she’s clearly “playing dumb!” I think that can end badly, as you’re selling a lie about yourself in other to engage people who aren’t like you in some key ways.
And: There’s a real point to saying that Feminism is really for Everyone.
In other words, sometimes that discomfort is the point, that push to see things differently really is how it has to be done — esp. in what I’ve seen on how TikTok drives viewship. She’s making a really solid point about how Feminism can “seem out of touch” (even as some of that is due to forces outside Feminist culture’s control), and it’s not a horrible or Right-leaning critique. Nor is her being “sexy” bad — but some of the ways she’s saying to make Feminism more open and accepting might not be wise, in my personal opinion.
Another Scott
@David ☘The Establishment☘ Koch: I read some biography of Howard Hughes (“Citizen Hughes”, I think) that claimed, IIRC, that the breakin was to find evidence that the Democrats were getting huge donations/bribes from Hughes (as LBJ and others supposedly did). I haven’t read enough, or listened to the tapes enough, to know if others buy that. But that it’s plausible that Nixon was convinced it was true (whether it was or not) shows, yet again, the power of crazy guys with too much money and the corrupting effects of needing giant campaign war chests.
We’ll know that the public is getting things under control when public financing of campaigns is a serious thing.
Cheers,

@Another Scott: That’s true. Hughes had bribed Nixon to get DOJ to drop their anti-trust suit on his purchases of multiple hotels in Las Vegas. Nixon used the cash to install a pool and other bourgeois additions to his home in Florida
Hughes had also hired the Chairman of the Democratic Party, Larry O’Brien, as his lobbyist. Hughes had written a memo to his managers stating RFK had the greatest campaign staff he had ever seen and wanted to hire all of them for representation.
Nixon was concerned O’Brien was aware of the bribes (which Nixon failed to declare as income on his taxes) and he would release the information in an October surprise.
Haldeman even wrote in his diaries: “Colson called Jeb [Magruder] twice to tell him to get going on this thing — specifically the Larry O’Brien information regarding the Florida dealings.”
