In March 2022 I got to do my first real travel, visiting places I haven’t been before, in a long time. I went on a cruise to the Southern Caribbean, calling in at Saint Maarten, Saint Lucia, and Saint Kitts and Nevis. It was a ten day cruise, with three sea days, a stop at San Juan and at RCCL’s “private” beach in Haiti. I’m going to make three posts out of my pictures. I only took my cell phone, not my Nikon camera, on this trip. I don’t think I will do that on future trips. Although the phone, a top of the line Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5g, takes very good pictures, opening the camera and more especially keeping it open for more than a couple of minute was a pain. The ship was only half full as a COVID precaution and had only half the usual staff. But they tried really had to give is the “full” cruise experience. The first set of pictures is about the cruise experience, with a couple of ports where I didn’t get many pictures.

What a lovely drink photo. The maraschino cherry glowing through the blue Kirk is a nice touch.
and rums and conch fritters sound like a nice way to fritter away an afternoon.

Love seeing all the blue water and sky! And your drink matches! When I decide to travel again, the Caribbean will be my first destination.

They should post a no vacancy sign on the cemetery

Is the Tree House still there? Crazy ass bar.

@raven: Where is the Tree House?
raven
@eclare: Sint Maarten. . .or it was. I still have the t-shirt!
eclare
@raven: Oh wow! That is a quality shirt! I went to Saint Martin for a music festival many years ago. Except for one day we were on the French side. Very fun.

@eclare: My brother and I went there in the early 90’s. We stayed in Philipsburg and that is where the Treehouse was. I think it got destroyed in Irma but it was a funky bar built around a huge tree. Marigot was really pretty but the French were decidedly unfriendly to us.

We spent a week on a sailboat in the Virgin Isles once, it was beautiful, but the poverty around the edges of the wonderful resorts was sad. Dad and Wife and I, was really fun to do something like that with my dad.

Glad you made it back! When I was in San Juan in 2013 I was having lunch near the pier. A cruise ship blew its horn to alert its guests that it was time to go. Shortly after it left a couple wearing flip-flops and carrying shopping bags ran down to a then empty pier. I could feel their dread from several hundred yards away.

Lovely pictures! I flew to St. Martin (French side) with my son and brother years ago, and we stayed in Grand Case, a lovely village with a lot of great restaurants. There was a grocery store where you could buy a bottle of nice French win for $6. It is a really spectacular island, and both the French and Dutch sides have much to recommend them.

I spent a week in St Martin, back in 2000 or so. I had a friend who was working as a go-go dancer at a club near the airport and I had an AA voucher so I went down to visit her. I stayed in Marigot on the French side, as did my friend in a different hotel. The airport is actually in the Dutch side, just on the border. I had a car so I took my friend and some of her co-workers to Philipsburg.

@David ☘The Establishment☘ Koch: Cemeteries are a real issue on the islands. I have seen some gross things when attending funerals here. Not everyone is allowed to rest in peace.
