TPM is reporting that Dianne Feinstein’s office is not able to commit to a filibuster carve out to pass legislation to protect women’s reproductive rights if the Democrats control the Senate next year.
As far as I’m concerned, if you live in a state with one or two Democratic Senators, it’s worth a call or email to your Senator who may be on the fence asking for their position on the carve out, and stating your support. That includes Angus King.
It might be worth calling Collins and Murkowski’s offices, too, because, hey, who knows? I also think it’s worth calling Sinema’s office, because she’s ripe to turn around on this one.
The first line in any letter to my reps is the statement that I’m a Democrat who votes in primaries and the general, and I’ve happily voted for them in the past.
Finally, to counter a view that’s often stated when talking about passing laws protecting women’s reproductive rights, if the Christofascists on the Supreme Court decide to overturn this law, then we can deal with that as it comes up. Plus, it’s not a foregone conclusion, and you only win if you try.
