So… are we up for another Ukraine quilt auction?
Quiltingfool tells me she has finished another Ukraine quilt and almost has the top done for another one.
I can’t wait to see it!
I know there’s a lot going on, so I thought I would check in and see if you guys are up for it. If so, I think we would probably handle it the same way as the previous one with the addition of having 5 minutes (or some similar number of minutes) to top an offer that comes in right under the bell, and then after 5 minutes of no activity, the top bid wins.
Anyway, what say you all?
Open thread!

Sure. Let’s do it. And thank you to QF for this.

Auction the hell out of it!

I am heading to bed, but I will check back in on this thread tomorrow around noon. That should give folks from all of our time zones a chance to see this and weigh in.

Ob Open Thread, as I think AnotherScott puts it:
placing my bet that “support staff” means the WH employee (waiter? butler?) whom Cassidy Hutchinson helped clean the ketchup off the wall during man-baby’s tantrum

Yes!

Since it’s an open thread, I just want to say I’m really enjoying the rotating tags these days.

hearing rumblings that the J6 Committee hearings have been so productive that they are considering a hiatus and a return in late August….
If they do so…. it seems like there’s still a helluva lot to cover:
when you think about what has yet to be covered….
1) coordination between Congress and the WH – The Coup Club, i.e. what did they do and how did they help, who else was involved (Grassley, Cruz, Hawley, Graham, Rubio, Johnson…)
2) was there a kill/kidnap/assault order out not just for Pence but for Dem members of Congress?
3) who handled the coordination logistically between the WH and the militias? (c’mon down Ginni Thomas)
4) who fucking paid for this, because it wasn’t Trump, he never pays for anything…
5) how did the FBI and Homeland fuck this up so badly that every RW nutjob came out of the woodwork and there was nary a peep from the Deep State
6) who co-opted certain elements of the Cap Police to let people in and have reduced staffing, how the fuck was Flynn’s brother in the room when denying military support requested by the VP, Speaker and Majority leader?
7) how in the hell were the media narratives spread about this being a false flag and a riot that got out of hand?
8) why is it that NO ONE from TEAM NORMAL blew the whistle on ALL/ANY of this shit and contact the FBI? Obviously some members of Congress were involved, why didn’t they or any of their staffers do the right thing?
that just comes to mind

I would be in!

O/T:
Hey, there was a televised January 6 Committee hearing yesterday, wasn’t there? Maybe I missed it, but tonight, (Wednesday), PBS Snooze Hour didn’t mention it. Same with CBS and NBC evening news.
Weird. I guess the hearing was the tree falling in the forrest with no one around to hear it.

@piratedan: All of these are very good questions. Plus, SCOTT PERRY!! Let’s bust that stain on PA.

I think it’s a great idea, and I am so grateful to Quilting Fool! But unfortunately I can only participate as an observer.

@Jim, Foolish Literalist: They call them valets.
I’d bid in an auction. Although I’m not a high roller like some here!

@piratedan: Excellent list.

@JWR: It was postponed to 7/21, prime time.

this is my one true desire. to see this be the death knell for Citizen’s United. I will say it over and over, the only thing Liz and the remainder of the ‘regular’ GOP care about is wresting control of their donors back from TFG. Especially the big ones like the Kochs and Mercers. MAKE THEM PAY. The Cheney Regency is actively trying to wipe the W stink off the Party by putting all the blame on 45 and his minions. They intend to go right on with the Southern Strategy playbook once these trials are over.
After voting rights, election funding laws are incredibly important when it comes to keeping this democracy intact.

I think (fingers crossed) I’ll have another Ukraine quilt top done today. I’ll provide a photo to Watergirl, but keep in mind it isn’t quite finished. The quilt ready for auction now is called “Cats and Sunflowers” and it is a doozy – I really enjoyed designing and making it. There is a dog amongst the cats and flowers, Patron. He’s the first dog block I’ve ever made. He won’t be the last – I just bought some fun dog appliqué patterns! Go Patron!
The quilt being finished is much more traditional than Cats and Sunflowers. No cats!
Big quilts aren’t in everyone’s price range, so my next project to raise money for Ukraine is to make small quilted items. This way more folks can donate and not break their budget – and get a decorative item to boot! I adore some of the cat blocks and the Patron block in Cats and Sunflowers and I’d like to make them again. These will be my first picks for small quilted mats or wall hangings. Once Watergirl puts up the photos, I’d love feedback on which blocks folks might be interested in purchasing – I can make more than one, lol!
You guys are the best!
Quiltingfool
@zhena gogolia: I will be making small quilted items, so stay tuned, as they say! I really want to write, well, embroider, Slava Ukraini using the Cyrillic alphabet on some of the items. My embroidery machine can do some Cyrillic letters, but Ukrainian words have some letters that are different than what my machine has. So, I’m going to “freehand” it, and see how that goes!

@Quiltingfool:
maybe another way to make it more affordable is to hold it as a raffle. Maybe $25 or $50 a ticket? That way more of us can participate and hopefully more $ overall would be raised.
WaterGirl
@ceece: Your comment reminded me that we had talked about people being able to “buy” a square from the quilt at a certain price, and then everyone who bought a square would be entered into the drawing for the quilt itself.
I had forgotten about that until I read your comment.
