I am reminded of Stephen Wright, the comedian with a very dry sense of humor. He had a routine about a baby keeping a diary, and on day one it said: “Still tired from the move.”
That’s me, still tired from the move from the merge.

“Ya done good, kid, take the afternoon off.”
And thanks!

Have another cupcake. That’ll perk you up.
WaterGirl
@Old School: You know me too well. I ate my last cupcake earlier because I was hungry and didn’t have time for lunch.

Old Hollywood bloopers are a thing of beauty.
Be like Bo Jackson, not like Herschel Walker.

Hawley’s going to be dragged for longer than he’d hoped.

You might be fishing a little for complements here Watergirl — but I am all for it. God love you for all of the good intentions you have and the good work you do.

Thanks for having it ready for the hearings last night!

I saw Steven Wright in concert at the Tower Theater… Buckaroo Goldstein! Saw Robin Williams perform there as well. My two eldest sisters had their high school graduations there, but by the time us younger three kids graduated our HS stopped doing that, sadly. We had ours on the school’s football field.

@patrick II: No, I really wasn’t. I thought we needed a new thread and I didn’t have anything to say, so I wrote the only thing that came into my head.
We’re still working out whether the post merge issues are fixable or whether we should back up and re-do the merge another time.

Steve Bannon found guilty.
If I still smoked I’d need a cigarette about now.

@WaterGirl: Now might not be the time to mention I have VIP tickets to the Chocolate Festival, all chocolate, all the time. If it wasn’t 100 degrees, I’d send you some – we get to take home a bunch after the tastings. But I fear what would arrive would be an envelope with a creamy chocolate center. 😂🙃

Interesting thread about the grain shipment agreement signed in Istanbul, but perhaps the most interesting Tweet in the thread:

Speaking of 100 degrees – I turned the sprinkler on for the ducks (even though they have pools, they really like running water) – they are happily playing in it, and I really should get video, but that would mean I’d have to go outside. LOL

@WaterGirl: I enjoyed the message you’d put up while the site was down (so to speak). All the suggestions of nice things we could do while we waited–it was amusing :)

There was video going around the last couple of days of testimony in Congress of a forced-birth person who claimed that what the medical procedure the 10 year old in Ohio received was not an abortion.
I’m now seeing this argument in the wild.
Multiple reddit posters have claimed that the treatment for ectopic pregnancy and miscarriages are not abortions.

@trollhattan: I’m so psyched for this! 😂

@Danielx: I wonder if he’ll actually do any time, or just have to pay fines or something.

WaterGirl, rest up for the next battle.
Thank you for all the serious work.

@Gin & Tonic: I got a NYT notification saying “US and Ukrainian officials say they’ll wait to see if russia upholds its side of the grain plan”.
Seems prudent, considering they ought to replace the definition of “mendacious” in the dictionary with a picture of Putin.

He will do some time, both because of sentencing guidelines (which will include his prior(s)) and because of the general “rent on the courtroom” that defendants pay for taking obviously loser cases to trial.
Also, it is possible that the judge could (a bit tricky but possible) also find him civilly in contempt of Congress (lower burden that criminal conviction) and hold him in custody until he purged his contempt — meaning until he produced the documents and testified.

@lee:
If only someone had remembered to put that into the laws that have been rushed through.

@Gin & Tonic: Ever since this began to be discussed, I’ve been wondering: what country’s navy will be the guarantor of the Ukranian ships’ safe passage? It seems the best option would be for Ukrainian ships to be reflagged as Turkish.

@trollhattan: In most countries, a douche like Hawley would have no future in politics. But here he could end up as DeSatan’s running mate (pun intended).

@Alison Rose 💙🌻💛: me too. I read it, and then took a nap.

We got home a short while ago and the first thing on TV was the report that Bannon was found guilty on both counts. Some delicious Friday afternoon Schadenfreud. Good luck with his mission to “destroy the administrative state” or whatever the hell he once bragged.

Sorry I wrote the first part of that comment. The second part still holds.

@lee: Ah actually I think a lot of medical types have been avoiding calling them abortions for years for obvious reasons, including on those medical billing codes and stuff. I am no expert, it’s just something I have heard at least 10 years ago. It could be something that worked to keep some peoples feathers unruffled for years while Roe was the law of the land but doesn’t now the freaks get to let their inner bully flag fly. I know a lot of medical nurses and clerks who are very religious and …maybe don’t want to know certain things.
trollhattan
@Mike in NC: Sadly, yes.
On which, I’m beginning to see margin ads (not here, yet) “polling” “Who would you vote for, DeSantis or Biden?” featuring a smilin’ Ron on one side and scowling Biden on the other.
So not clicking.

Here I thought the opposition to abortion was based on religion. Turns out it’s based on medical billing best practices.

@WaterGirl: thank you for all the work and help, I’m sure we have no real idea of everything you’ve put into our cozy, feisty little home on the web here!

@TaMara: That sounds delightful! But you’re right, this is not the right time of year to be mailing chocolate.
I am consoling myself with my homemade nectarine/lemon popsicle. So good! If I do say so myself.

Bannon was convicted! Hooray!

@lee:
My God. Well, whatever it takes, I guess…
So, what are these procedures if not “abortions”? Oh, I know! “Induced miscarriages!”
Sister Machine Gun of Quiet Harmony
@trollhattan: Oh yes! I may have to participate in this!
StringOnAStick
@lee: Its interesting that the forced birthers are taking that tack, because the 10 yo rape victim did not have an ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage, she had a regular, standard abortion. I’ve seen a few trying out the idea that when it happens with a 10 year old, it’s by definition not an abortion; is there some magic age for this rhetorical slight of hand to be true? What about a girl who becomes pregnant one day older than this specific magic age? What actually changed in that 24 hours?
They are trying to dance around the hideous cruelty their caught car of outlawing all abortions has created. It’s our job to keep them dancing and looking like the crazed fundamentalists they are. No mercy.
StringOnAStick
@Miss Bianca: But isn’t every induced miscarriage an abortion? That’s how an abortion is performed; it is caused by procedures that cause miscarriage in some way though treating an ectopic pregnancy requires a surgical solution. Their logic fails on all counts.
Miss Bianca
@StringOnAStick: Should I have included the sarc tags?

Many thanks Watergirl.
In a personal accomplishment this years “catch the moggies and get them to the vet for their rabies shot” campaign has ended in triumph with the last hold out being lured into a carrier and taken for his annual jaunt. I think he’s forgiven me and the Rabies Police are no longer sending ominous letters. Yay me.
StringOnAStick
@Miss Bianca: Naw, I’m just simmering over the forced birthers, I know you’re not one. This “it’s not a “real” abortion stuff from them is such bs.
