We live in pretty fucking terrible times, where cruelty and doing the wrong thing are often rewarded, and sometimes you have to actively look for something good in the world. And then, I log in here, and find you spectacular motherfuckers have raised a shitload of money for victims in the Ukrainian war, and it’s just a shock to see so many good people in one place.

A new thread is greatly appreciated!
Yeah. Some amazing jackals in this crew. Generous.

I think in reality there are lots of good people everywhere, but it doesn’t always seem that way because the bad people are such noisy assholes, and particularly so now thanks to Fox and the Orange Frankenstein.

I’m glad to see this is a shout-out to those who care. I was a bit concerned from the title that it might have something to do with your recent medical history.
Kropacetic
@Cameron: I think that gushing should have transpired *before* the procedure.

Got choked up John. Almost couldn’t swallow my beer.
Jackie
You’ve created a wonderful, caring pack of jackals, John!♥️
Thanks for your gushing of feelings, and not some other kind of gushings 😉

@Kropacetic: As the noted American philosopher Thomas Waller observed, “One never knows, do one?”
Gin & Tonic
As someone with more interest in the war than most of you, the generosity is awe-inspiring.

@bbleh: once upon a time we’d say the idiots have megaphones. Same as it ever was. Sigh.

@Gin & Tonic: I have hoped that for you, and any others here with close ties to Ukraine, seeing the outpouring of support and donations and everything has been a source of at least a little comfort.

We are just following the example of our leader.

Jesus Christ, Cole. Gushy? Seriously?

I like it.

It’s a little oasis of sanity.
Ok, well, if not sanity then at least solidarity.

You’re welcome.

@mrmoshpotato: Now that the rotating tag form is back, I wonder if there will be an email soon announcing that that has been nominated.

You’ve gathered a good group, John.

I haven’t been on in a while, but wow – what a haul! Whomever gets the next quilt will be in for a treat.
ETA: I will not lie though, I thought John might have gotten gushy because that asshole Joe Manchin actually did something that might have played the GOP real hard when it comes to reconciliation.
bbleh
@PsiFighter37: Lol the thought occurred. But I’ll believe it when the ink is dry and not before. As Goodgulf Grayteeth said, “that knave is slipperier than a catfish in a jar of Vaseline.”
PsiFighter37
@bbleh: I’m more concerned that Sinema will torpedo it. Manchin putting out a self-serving press release means he is committed at this point, and if Schumer & Pelosi have any political sense, they will simply pass it as is.
Andrya
@PsiFighter37: Seconded. I can (barely) tolerate Machin, because he’s the best we’re going to get out of West Virginia (sorry, John). But for Sinema, let me quote Shakespeare’s Hamlet: “For I trust thee as I will adders fanged…”

I lost my copies of the Lord of the Rings books in a move, so I can’t check to be sure if Tolkein actually wrote it or if it was just in the movies, but I’m reminded of the statement: “There’s some good in the world, and it’s worth fighting for.”

Balloon Juice people are the best. Solid.

“doing the wrong thing are often rewarded”
Yep.
“Today, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) took action against U.S. Bank for illegally accessing its customers’ credit reports and opening checking and savings accounts, credit cards, and lines of credit without customers’ permission. U.S. Bank pressured and incentivized its employees to sell multiple products and services to its customers, including imposing sales goals as part of their employees’ job requirements. In response, U.S. Bank employees unlawfully accessed customers’ credit reports and sensitive personal data to apply for and open unauthorized accounts. U.S. Bank must make harmed customers whole and pay a $37.5 million penalty.”
