Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

If you are in line to indict donald trump, stay in line.

Trump makes a mockery of the legal system and cowardly judges just sit back and let him.

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

Stamping your little feets and demanding that they see how important you are? Not working anymore.

FFS people, this was a good thing. take the win.

I wonder if trump will be tried as an adult.

I’m pretty sure there’s only one Jack Smith.

Books are my comfort food!

I’m just a talker, trying to find a channel!

In my day, never was longer.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

After dobbs, women are no longer free.

President Biden is doing good where he can, and getting it done.

This must be what justice looks like, not vengeful, just peaceful exuberance.

Even though I know this is a bad idea, I’m off to do it anyway!

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

I was confident that someone would point it out and thought why not me.

“The defense has a certain level of trust in defendant that the government does not.”

Be a traveling stable for those who can’t find room at the inn.

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. don’t touch it.”

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

On The Road – lee – Jemez Springs, New Mexico

lee

Jemez Springs is a hidden gem in New Mexico. It is about 70 miles west of Santa Fe. It is located next to the Jemez Pueblo   in the Jemez National Recreation Area which is part of the Santa Fe National Forest.  There are hot springs up and down the valley and various establishments that offer relaxing soaks in the hot springs. It is difficult to get to and has very little cell reception (IMHO those are selling points).

The Jemez Valley offers red rock trails without having to go to Sedona. The local pueblo sells all sorts of items that really are from the surrounding pueblos.

Just a short trip up the valley you have the Valles Caldera National Preserve. Then a not so short trip (but still picturesque) further up and you get to Los Alamos.

The Cerro Grande Trail leads to an overlook from which you can see Los Alamos as well the nearby caldera. This is the caldera from the peak.

Late Night Open Thread: I’m Hoping Hakeem Jeffries Is Our Next Majority Leader

Since Rep. Jeffries is considered Not A Fan of Performative Outrage, I checked his twitter feed. He’s also too busy doing his job to waste time on time-wasters, I guess…

Senate Republicans stole two Supreme Court seats from Democratic Presidents.

Then express fake outrage when the legitimacy of the Court’s extreme majority is questioned.

Get lost.

— Hakeem Jeffries (@RepJeffries) July 25, 2022

I’ve got my hopes for the future, though! (I am as big a Pelosi fangrrl as any, but when she’s ready to go, the lady deserves a long and happy retirement)

After Pelosi retires she’s going to be replaced with Hakeem Jeffries, and once you’re introduced to him you’re really going to miss Pelosi’s diplomacy and gentle touch when dealing with internal party divisions.

Guilty Pleasures Open Thread (and a little OTR thrown in)

by WaterGirl|  July 25, 20229:05 pm| 59 Comments

This post is in: Books, Open Threads, TV & Movies

So… Blood & Treasure showed up on Tivo yesterday with the start of season two.  It’s a totally not serious show but mindless and fun.  Are you willing to share your guilty pleasures?  (On TV and in books, of course, not in real life.)  That would be TMI.

Oh, and it’s hot out.  Have one of my homemade popsicles.  White nectarine / cherry.

Guilty Pleasures Open Thread (and a little OTR thrown in)

I’m pairing this with the quilt block photos thread because it will be tough to have a conversation on a thread with 20 images!  But I wanted everyone to be able to see the block images in a big enough size to really be able to see them.  Don’t tell us which ones you want yet, that will be in another thread after the raffle closes at midnight on Tuesday.

Open thread.

Interrupting the open thread for a quick minute.

Because the merge “published” some pending On the Road submissions, and it lost pictures on some posts and lost comments on some other posts,  I’m asking anyone who has submitted an OTR post that hasn’t been published yet to take a look at this list.

My best source of info – while the developers (hopefully) get this worked out – is in my OTR email folder.  So I want to make sure that is right, at least!

So if you have a pending On the Road submission, please confirm that you are on this list.  Or if I’ve somehow missed you, let me know that you should be on the list.

Resume open thread!

Achievement Unlocked: Colonoscopy

by John Cole|  July 25, 20224:48 pm| 112 Comments

This post is in: John Cole Presents "This Fucking Old House"

All in all, not too bad. As I noted elsewhere, the worst part of the procedure was dealing with all the hyper caffeinated nurses at 7 am when I was not allowed to have any and had basically been up all night going to the bathroom.

Experience was quick and painless. Wheeled you back told you to get on your side, injected some stuff they said would feel like fire in your veins for a second but I found to be cool, and the next thing I know I was awake and not groggy. The first thing the female nurse asked me when I woke ups was “Do you have a wife” because apparently I snored like a beast the entire time.

Took me back to the recovery room, waited ten minutes, and then went out to the lot where mom was waiting. Came home, had a quick breakfast of a sausage egg and cheese sandwich and fell asleep for four hours.

They found a few polyps and said I was not clean enough to get into some of the deeper regions so I get to do this again in a year with more “aggressive” cleansing techniques as preparation.

All in all, the whole thing was not a big deal and I think people do a disservice by claiming it is worse than it is. As far as the medical procedures I have had, this was way down on the scale.
