this really is a video game for so many people; previous choices and actions can be instantaneously rendered moot by just picking another mission path along the main thread that promises to explain it all along the way
— kilgore trout, death to putiner (@KT_So_It_Goes) August 11, 2022
just baking and baking and baking, and being proven wrong again and again and again is actually just a very complex proof of how deep it all goes and only the smartest people can ignore the logic and keep following the thread as it bakes

Principled defenders of nonpartisan government demand FBI return to its traditional role of urging civil rights leaders to kill themselves, promoting violence against dissident groups through local police and intermediaries, and surveilling Dungeons & Dragons creators.

Jackie
What are we to make of this?
”Shortly before midnight on Thursday evening, former President Donald Trump announced that we would not oppose the Department of Justice motion to unseal the Mar-a-Lago search warrant and redacted property receipt listing the items seized.”

Frankensteinbeck
@Jackie:
Nothing, until he also pleads that in court.
JoyceH
@Frankensteinbeck: As I understand it, default is to unseal – unless Trump’s lawyers go to court to object, the unseal will happen.

Was looking for this drawing and found this relaxing tune with the same title: “Standing on a Whale”.
Dangerman
@JoyceH: …which TFG’s Lawyers will almost surely do, “against his wishes”, of course.
One of the tweets got me to thinking, if he skedaddled to the UAE, he could still run for President, right? Can’t lose that income stream. Sure, he can’t show up to campaign, but he could Zoom in to the delight of his fawning audience. Might even give Desantis (who has to have a shit eatin grin right now) some trouble here and there.
Enhanced Voting Techniques
@Dangerman: I am sure if came to that they would simply hold the debates and the Republican convention in Bucharest like CPAC. lol
Dangerman
@Enhanced Voting Techniques: Exactly. Poor mistreated Donald had to run from the Big Bad meanies.

Martin
@Jackie: Assuming it’s correct, Trump probably got some decent advice.
Because Trump volunteered the existence of the raid, there’s zero chance the judge was going to keep the warrant sealed. Trump burned that bridge himself. To argue to keep it sealed would be futile and make him look both even more guilty and even more weak. By accepting the outcome, he at least looks less like an idiot.
Ruckus
@Martin:
“By accepting the outcome, he at least looks less like an idiot.”
I’m not giving him that much credit. One of his attorneys maybe, but not him.
sukabi
@Martin: don’t worry Martin, by tomorrow evening Trump will have done or said something that will reaffirm his idiocy.
JaySinWA
@Jackie: I think we need to hold fire until the warrant is released with the list of things seized or until more solid reporting is available. As CaseyL warned earlier, the reporting is pretty thin on the nuclear assertion but people are getting way out over their skis on it. Maybe it is a big Biden deal, but we really don’t know. The claim of revealing sources and methods may end up being the big deal and the nuclear stuff a side show that was just click bait.
The claim that they won’t oppose release may mean that they see the reality of the warrant info is less than the reporting is claiming and they can use it to minimize the real stuff revealed. In any case we should know soon more about what was searched for and what was found.
Barbara
@JaySinWA: Not releasing it allows for speculation of a parade of horribles that cannot otherwise be challenged let alone refuted by TFG or his minions. The new strategy will be release and minimize.
Shalimar
@Barbara: Release and minimize worked effectively for Nunes and then Barr in minimizing the Russia damage to Trump. Why not keep working the strategy that works? Even if it does drive me insane wondering why the media thinks they’re in flat Florida when they have driven over 6 mountains of evidence.
JWR
I usually catch at least some of whatever PBS News Hour is pushing during their late night rebroadcast, and tonight I’m glad I did. They had a 3 women “faith and abortion” panel: a Rabbi, a Muslim, and a Christian, all faith leaders, and it ended up about the same way these things always do, with the Christian talking about the Un-born or Pre-born children or persons, or even the “Little Ones”.
But it always sounds to me like the Christian forced-birthers show their ass by talking right past the other faith’s beliefs, insisting that theirs is the One True position, which just makes them look rigidly, dedicatedly stupid. The clip is just under 13 minutes.
If you ask me, codifying Roe would go a long way towards fixing the problem, instead of giving the Southern Baptist, hard right Catholic coalition the final say.

Crowley and Fleischer – just like McConnell and other members of the Republican ‘establishment’, such as it is these days – will do and say whatever they need to do and say to minimize the damage to the GOP. That is their #1 imperative: to ensure the GOP pays no price for its enabling of such a dangerously unstable and corrupt creature.
Baud
@Jeffro:
Agreed. Waiting for shame or contrition is a fool’s errand.

Hey look! Kyrsten Sinema’s recent legislative victory over her Democratic colleagues makes an unsurprising cameo as she fights for her state!
Geminid
@JWR: Nice to see a little cloud forming on Glenn Youngkin’s horizon. That shareholder lawsuit by the Pittsburg pension fund will make news for a while, I think. “…enriching themselves at the expense of firefighters” is a good line of attack, and will cut Youngkin up some.
Youngkin can’t run for reelection, which is to his advantage as a potential 2028 Presidential contender. Youngkin will have the chore of leading his party in next year’s legislative elections, though, and this story may knock some of the shine off the folksy image he tries to project.

Forget it. Democrats and especially primary voter Democrats in Arizona hate her. She promised progressive and delivered obstructive conservative. Voting for a reconciliation bill that she forced to be a little more business friendly is going to do nothing to turn that around. Sinema is doomed in her next primary. Unfortunately, we’re still stuck with her another four years.
David 🌈☘The Establishment☘🌈 Koch
@Frankensteinbeck: 2 years
I think she knows she can’t turn around her unpopularity in 2 years time. Which is why she voted for hedge fund/private equity people; she’s aiming for a wingnut welfare golden parachute.
JWR
@SFAW:
“But, it sound very better, when I said that statement.”
Geminid
@Frankensteinbeck: Sinema promised “Democrat.” When she ran for Senate, Representative Sinema was a member of the Blue Dog Caucus, which was not considered all that “progressive.”
Still, Arizona Democrats have good reason to be mad at her, and I expect that a credible candidate will announce a primary challenge early next year, after the midterms.
