Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Mediocre white men think RFK Jr’s pathetic midlife crisis is inspirational. The bar is set so low for them, it’s subterranean.

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

Consistently wrong since 2002

There is no compromise when it comes to body autonomy. You either have it or you do not.

I did not have this on my fuck 2025 bingo card.

We still have time to mess this up!

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

I really should read my own blog.

There are more Russians standing up to Putin than Republicans.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Polls are now a reliable indicator of what corporate Republicans want us to think.

Anne Laurie is a fucking hero in so many ways. ~ Betty Cracker

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

“Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.”

Nothing says ‘pro-life’ like letting children go hungry.

If America since Jan 2025 hasn’t broken your heart, you haven’t loved her enough.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

Another day, another group of right wing assholes supporting the troops in a way only they can:

Tonight members of the 1776 Restoration Movement doubled down on their efforts to spam the veteran's suicide hotline.

As someone who knows several vets who have killed themselves, this makes my fucking blood boil.

    Here’s two pieces of good news:

    1. The senate has approved six Biden circuit court nominees in the last two weeks. He’s up to 24 confirmed, far more than Obama or Clinton at this time and closing in on Trump’s 30 for his first  two years in office. There’s a real chance they will meet or pass that mark.

    2. Tomorrow, the senate is going to ratify an important treaty that will limit global warming. (Not Paris, but the Kigali protocols regarding HFCs). Schumer has the votes (about 20 GOPers are onboard). Better yet, last year Congress passed a bill regulating HFCs that will actually fulfill the terms of the treaty.

    They show themselves to be hateful and vicious but also beyond stupid. This is a completely incoherent protest.

    Black people fed up with segregation, protested by sitting at whites-only lunch counters. Young men protesting the Viet Nam war burned their draft cards. By this logic, the forced birthers screaming at patients entering abortion clinics also makes sense, even as it is/was also vicious and hateful.

    Where is the line from jamming the suicide prevention hotline to expressing their anger about the jailing of January 6th protesters? They couldn’t think of a way to direct their protest at the prosecutors and judges? They can’t do anything right.

    LASD ordered to stop search of Sup. Sheila Kuehl’s computers; DOJ taking over investigation

    A judge has ordered the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to stop searching all computers seized from the Metro Transportation Authority, MTA Office of Inspector General and Supervisor Sheila Kuehl until further notice.

    The judge also ordered the department to “refrain from any hard drive imaging.” Any imaging that has been done must be disclosed, as well as who took the images, has the images and has seen the images.

    I mourn that American citizens could show such disdain and contempt in the name of Patriotism

    It’s hard to know what they are patriotic about.

    In 1776 there were just 13 relatively primitive and disparate British colonies fomenting violent rebellion against the legitimate authority of the British Crown and Parliament (some fomenting more than others – not everybody was on board the rebellion train in 1776). There was no cohesive plan for union and no cohesive plan for government and, frankly, the colonies didn’t much like each other – loyalty was to the colony that one called home.

    If the 1776ers were “patriots” and loyal to the United States of America and the US Constitution they should have adopted the year 1788.

    I’m probably going to regret asking this, but why? What fever-dream hallucinations led to attacking a VA suicide-prevention hotline of all things?

    @dmsilev: like 911, they HAVE to answer the phone.  Any place else would just send them straight to voicemail.

    @Tony G: You may be remembering this statement by Trump:

    I’m going to fucking snap, as posted in another thread my friend, a fellow vet took his life.  I’m fucking sick of this.

    As a vet who gets my healthcare from the VA and sees men my fathers age down to men in their early 20s with limbs missing, mental issues, normal human stuff and understands that the VA isn’t perfect, it is a damn major sight better than nothing and much of non VA healthcare, especially when it concerns it’s specialty – vets and their often rather specific issues.

    These assholes care about no actual human beings. They care about their bullshit first and only. And it is bullshit. They will fuck over anyone and anything because they are toddlers, assholes in full sized bodies with minds they found in the gutter or in the dumpster outside a McDs. They are far less than human, they want to be world leaders because they want to live in a world where they shine and that’s impossible in a world filled with actual human beings. Today’s rethuglicans are worse than yesterday’s rethuglicans. What do they think a world filled with only them would be like? They would hate that a lot more than the world they hate now, because it would show them how absolutely fucked up they really are. It would, as it always does, take away their rights and power and give it to someone like SFB or death santis, people who are barely human and only the worst parts, those that want to fuck over everyone but themselves because otherwise they are the bottom dwelling scum that gets scraped off of boats and fucking over everyone else is their only concept of living.

    @Ohio Mom:

    “They can’t do anything right.”

    It seems that it would be rather difficult to do anything realistic or proper when what you want is full on crap, but one also has to consider the source and their entire political rational. Which seems to be “We got nothing, so let’s fuck over everyone else because that will make us best.” It’s irrational, it’s unrealistic, it’s harmful, it’s hateful, it’s ignorant, it suits them to a T.

    @Ruckus:

    My friend took his life within this 24 hour time period because of this shit.  I’m fucking pissed.  To deal with that and now see this, and I was a Naval NCO, private contractor. USAID, and STATE contractor.   This shit sets my blood on fire.

    We bleed for you.  And to be blunt, a lot of shit goes down that you don’t want to know.  Much of it is good, I dealt with maternal and infant mortality as a contractor, but people don’t care about it. Field medic and data analytics.

    Denial of medical care is insane.  Spamming the suicide hotline is nuts.  You want a coup?  This is how you get one and they won’t like it.  Cause when you anger the people you aren’t caring for that are trained you get rocked.

    @NotMax:

    I was never served SOS, not once in my time in. On occasion we did get worse, and almost once had a literal mutiny over an extremely crappy dinner. Lifers were discussing breaking into the gun locker and taking over the ship. Even I was stunned by that. But no SOS.

    @Yutsano:

    The military can do that to a lot of people. It can be a really, really shitty ride. I had a not all that bad tour, many are treated far worse and many are just not able to see a way through. It can be degrading, it can seem like no one gives one crap about you living or dying, One of my 2 different boot camp commanders would absolutely pick on the weakest kid in the company. Mercilessly. It got me about as close as I’ve ever been to just physically attacking someone for every second of his bullshit and beating him senseless. Or dead.

    This was over 50 yrs ago, I remember it like it was 5 minutes ago. I have never been as pissed off at any human as I was at that supposed leader.

    @Ruckus: Apparently SOS was a staple in military mess halls until the 1970s. Never had it while in the service, but I buy Stouffers creamed chipped beef regularly. Call me crazy.

    @Mike in NC:

    Shit On a Shingle (for those not in the know) is phased out.  Though you can still buy it at the NEX on any base.  I also happen to like it.  Though I’ll also throw down with cheap tomato soup and grilled white wonder bread with american grilled cheese and fuck my heart issues!

    We had rather good food.  Breakfast was always order your own eggs with whatever in it (it’s not an omllette quit saying it is) with steak and lobster or crabs for dinner.  Go Navy I guess, when we moved to the green team we got MRE which, well those suck.  But we always got back to the carrier and ate like kings.

    Navy food is pretty good.  You’re talking custom eggs and french toast breakfast, lunch is a mess but it’s good, and then tbone steak and crab dinner.   Granted it’s over cooked to hell and back and we all drown it it hot sauce but it’s not “bad”.  The officers mess is better (we low levels eat in the ships galley) and if you think the officer get good eats hate to tell you, but check out the cheifs mess!

    Also even if you are an officer do not go to the chiefs mess or their birthing.  For those that didn’t serve a chief is an enlisted rank that wears an officers uniform.  They are not to be fucked with.   Cheifs run the Navy.  Point blank.  Even most admirals won’t screw with them.  One of Trumps fuck ups in Yemmen was getting a Chief killed, and not realizing that admirals don’t run DEVGRU, chiefs do.

    “1776 Project” has been around for a while, or at least the name has. It’s the reaction to the 1619 Project, ’cause 1776 is more patrioter.

    @Ruckus:

    You’ll laugh but I was held down my teeth shattered as they extracted half of my face to get into SERE.  They didn’t give me enough pain killers to get through it so I was fully aware of all of this as they extracted all four base teeth and then two more.  The pain was mind blowing.  Wisdom teeth.  I needed morphine and to be knocked out but they would not.

    At the end of it all I was drolling blood out of my face and they drove me back from NAS ocenana to DAMNNECK VA BEACH and put me back in school drooling blood all over the desk.
