… What is this totally inexplicable stirring in my loins?, wonders Tucker…
Pitch: Sitcom about a Korean language class with 19 K-Pop stans and 1 square-jawed buzz cut man set to deploy to “The Peninsula.” https://t.co/C6EE5TYewo

I would not only watch that sitcom, I’d pitch in on the Kickstarter bid!
Korean language class enrollments are up 78% since 2009 while total enrollment in language classes across US universities has plateaued. Great NPR piece https://t.co/YLMXrBPPnp

If BTS is good enough for the Grammys (not to mention their White House visit!), they’re good enough…

courtesy of Netflix, I can endorse both Inspector Koo and Extraordinary Attorney Woo, If they can do that kind of engaging media and stories, then I will have to sample more….

This post is tragically not connecting the dots that are right there. It was just announced in the last week that BTS will be doing their mandatory military service.

Korean metal is fucking amazing and that’s all I have to say.

I listen to a lot of female K-pop groups and it always makes me feel like a hype man when I sing along only with the random English words. I don’t mind not understanding the lyrics because a lot of the beats are just so infectious and fun. Right now, aespa is probably my fave.
Anne Laurie
@M: Thank you!
Yeah, I should’ve included more information about that, but in my defense, I’m working on two other posts for tomorrow morning…

I’ve become remarkably fixated on K-drama and can also endorse Extraordinary Attorney Woo and Little Women (so not the same plot as Alcott’s). Besides the great production values and many female-centered plots, I love that I can’t always anticipate how people will act, because I don’t know the culture. It’s nice to be surprised.

@piratedan
Iris. The first one only (the series, NOT the movies). Fine, tense, globe-spanning Korean espionage thriller, though unfortunately punctuated with sudden shifts to really gooey. sappy romance (and just as suddenly back again). First episode is totally deceiving, giving no hint of what’s to come.

I just got home from seeing The Glorious Sons in Asbury Park and they absolutely slayed. Hands down one of the best rock bands around.
eclare
That clip is just perfect.

Oh, we all know… You’re still a repulsive person, Tucker, but those feelings are ok.
Tony Jay
Methinks Tucker’s Swedish Ball Tanner will be humming away right now.
Take that however you like.
divF
@Tony Jay: I normally don’t kink shame, but Tucker? Ewww!
WereBear
@divF: Tucker’s kink is the Confederacy. The point is that it’s not consensual.

I can read Korean, with the minor quibble that I have no idea what any of the words mean. This is because the Korean writing system is one of the most sensible on the planet. After millennia of stumbling along with random collections of glyphs descended from some proto-Canaanite original, it took someone in Korea to finally say “wait a minute, what if we are systematic about these shapes and the way they’re put together into syllables and words…”

@oatler
One might think NBC indelibly learned a lesson about J-pop in 1980.
;)

I don’t mean to be dense, but I haven’t the foggiest notion what this thread is about, let alone what any of it has to do with Tucker Carlson.
The older I get, the less I understand pop culture. I guess that’s the way it’s supposed to be.
NotMax
@SiubhanDuinne
You ‘n’ me both, as far as the original post is concerned.
Tony G
@SiubhanDuinne: Me too. This must be what those kids on my lawn are listening to on their recorded music machines. Back in my day we listened to bad music and liked it!
NotMax
@Tony G
Those portable wax cylinder machines were a royal PITA on a sunny day at the beach.
Kirk Spencer
@SiubhanDuinne: latter day Beatles known also for choreographed performances enter mandatory military service, with hoopla greater than when Elvis did it.
Tucker has a homoerotic denial behavior; this clip his several of his triggers based on past venomous screeds.
And were he not such a well-followed voice of hatred I’d feel some sympathy for the mental pain he displays in these situations.
kalakal
@Kirk Spencer: Thank you, I still feel old but the haze has lifted slightly
Tony G
@NotMax: That’s right. That’s why we sometimes used a hire a barber shop quartet to sing ballads while we enjoyed a picnic in the park. Kids these days have it easy!
Tony G
@Tony G: As for Tucker — he really needs to spend more time in gay bars while wearing a disguise, in order to relieve some of his tension. (As if he’s not doing that already.)

More excellent Kdramas for those who are interested. I’ve been watching for about 4 years and here are some of my favorites available on Netflix…
My Mister (personal fav but slow moving drama)
Itaewon Class
Dear My Friends
Navillera
Reply 1988
Good Detective
Stranger
Misty
Something in the Rain

@NotMax: It’s really common to have multiple story lines in kdrama. My personal favorite show is Oh My Ghost which is no longer available on Netflix (the Thai version is still available but the original Korean is not – Thai is still good though). This is a love story, a friendship story, and a crime mystery all in the same show and it somehow works.
Shana
@lahke: me too! I’m currently watching Nevertheless and have The Sound of Magic and Hotel De Luna on the list. Highly recommend Crash Landing on You and Mr. Sunshine. All on Netflix. And if you’ve gone over the deep end subscribe to Viki where you can watch Healer and Goblin
Thanks for the reminder about Reply 1988. Highly Recommended

Korean show on Netflix called “It’s Okay to not be Okay”. The female lead has the most amazing wardrobe.
WaterGirl
@rdldot: Subtitles?
