Hell, yeah!!! On Tuesday, let’s be a force that turns the tide — they work for us, so only hire the candidates that will work for ALL of us! https://t.co/fBVNI5WPjs

Deal. If enough of Gen-Z & Millennials vote tomorrow that we can say we "ate & left no crumbs" (we keep the Senate and House blue), I’ll dye my hair blue over hiatus. Bet!
Your move, my young friends… #VOTEBLUE ?? https://t.co/z3wbc8SoEk

Let’s put Misha in charge of Twitter!

@Formerly disgruntled in Oregon: Maybe give a new meaning to ‘blue check?’

When the GOP loses and it’s because of Gen Zs and Millennials – think their change shit around and be better or will they start putting in plans to target these folks with various laws or basically say these two generations are cheats and frauds? It would not surprise me if the GOP decided to make them public enemies.
Miss Bianca
I dunno, color me naive but somehow I don’t think the Republican strategy of saying, “Elections are all rigged, your vote doesn’t count, so vote!”…is the best approach to take if they’re trying to get their base to actually vote.
Citizen Alan
I’ll let Mischa slide b/c parody and funny. But nothing makes me cringe like using cringe as a fucking noun instead of a verb. Saying that something “is cringe” is nothing but virtue signaling by gatekeeping snobs.
mrmoshpotato
I would argue it totally slaps!
Baud
Young people are weird.
eclare
I had to Google who that is.
mrmoshpotato
@cain:
The GrOPer motherfuckers who have been a god-damned pile of shit party for longer than I’ve been alive can bring it on.
JaneE
I watched the Obama clip. To what he said, I would add two things.
1, what would you think if you purchased an annuity from a bank or business and when it came time to pay up they said they would not? That is exactly what Johnson and the GOP are trying to do – avoid paying on the Social Security insurance program you purchased on the installment plan by working for enough quarters to qualify for a payout.
2, how many are prepared to pay the full cost of your parents and your grandparents if they lose their social security income? Republicans may be happy to let the generic them die in the gutter, but do their families feel the same way?
Cacti
@cain: The GOP hates the youngs. But the problem with that strategy is, in another decade or so, a whole lot of Boomers that vote Republican are going to be underground.
Spanky
@Baud: I believe that’s a direct quote from Socrates.

Report from the front in Nevada – this from a real Nevada voter: “Yes, I voted for Castro Masters (I know who she meant) last time, but I was living in Reno. I moved to Las Vegas this year. Is she still my Senator here or is it the other guy?” After I patiently and with no trace of condescension in my voice (I hope) explained the difference between how Senators and Congresspersons are elected, she’s all like “Cool! I’ll vote for her again.” She should vote for whoever will restore Civics education in Nevada schools. Back to work!!
Goku (aka Amerikan Baka)
@JaneE:
Where the hell is AARP, anyway?
Baud
@Cacti:
The GOP thinks they can convert the young later just like they are trying to court Latinos now.
Baud
@Almost Retired:
I’ll take it. We need a majority!
Alison Rose
He just needed to end it with “Voting is bussin fam, fr fr, no cap on God” and I’d bet a bunch of 20-somethings would vote just in recognition of his effort.
Sister Machine Gun of Quiet Harmony
@cain: The GOP will continue to evolve their strategy as they lose core voters, the way they always have. I thought when the Fox news demographic faded, so would they. Nope. Enter Joe Rogan and white nationalist outreach to disaffected young men. They are like COVID, constantly mutating to spread the infection.
Omnes Omnibus
@Baud:
So are old people.
Almost Retired
@Baud: most definitely. I wish I would have done more up here before. Next cycle. Lots of voters in Nevada who are younger and new to the state. They seem more persuadable. They’re unimpressed by legacy names like Laxalt, who they probably think is something Grandma buys at the drugstore (yes, I am comfortable with the cheap and obvious joke).
Baud
@Omnes Omnibus:
I wouldn’t know.
ian
@Goku (aka Amerikan Baka): According to Wikipedia, they are headquartered out of Washington D.C.
UncleEbeneezer
I’m just proud that as a 49 year old I knew pretty much all the slang that Misha used. Listening to Black podcasts definitely helped.
Omnes Omnibus
@ian: Well played.
Qrop Non Sequitur
The example you provided uses cei ge as an adjective.
NotMax
@Baud
Scio me nescire.
;)
John Revolta
@Citizen Alan: Ackshully, they’re using it as an adjective. And it’s perfectly fine.
Queen of Lurkers
I am seeing a lot of posts relying on data from TargetEarly. I looked at their website. I’m afraid they are just making up the numbers that claim that Democrats have a huge lead in early voting.
“When official party registration information is not available from government sources, TargetSmart does the next best thing which is to predict the party affiliation of voters.”
https://targetearly.targetsmart.com/about
They are making stuff up.
I’d like to believe them, but have been burned too many times.
Goku (aka Amerikan Baka)
@ian:
@Omnes Omnibus:
Har har very funny ; )
eclare
@Goku (aka Amerikan Baka): I have asked that very question here, too.
Scout211
I thought the yoots use it as a shortened version of “cringe-worthy,” which is an adjective.
And other jackals got there first. Grammar police everywhere!
But I do agree that every generation has its own version of words and phrases that are there to keep the olds out. I’m not sure about snobs, but definitely gatekeepers.
Groovy, man! 😉
karensky
@JaneE: this post is so spot on! Thanks

@eclare: AARP has to be cautious because too many of its members watch Fox.
Ohio Mom
@ian: When I first met Ohio Dad, he was living in Arlington Virginia. In an effort to keep myself busy one day while he was at work, I decided to take one of those touristy trolley tours. I figured it would give me a feel for the different areas of D.C.
If I hadn’t noticed I was the youngest person by far on the trolley, I sure became aware of it when the driver announced, “And on the left, that big building is the headquarters of an organization I know a lot of you care about and belong to, AARP.”
@Goku (aka Amerikan Baka): And now, years later, I am an AARP member too! They had the best Medicare Gap plan for me.
As a non-profit, AARP is officially non-partisan but since they lobby for things that help seniors — lower drug prices, strengthening Social Security, etc. — a lot of people assume they are Democrats in disguise. There may be an argument they are really an insurance company though.
Ohio Mom
Back on topic, this is the post I needed. When raving about how effective Paxlovid is, do I say, “This stuff’s the shit” “Paxlovid is dope” “Paxlovid slaps” or “Paxlovid is bussin fam, fr fr, no cap on God”? (I can’t even translate that last one into English, I just trust Alison Rose it’s complimentary).
Matt McIrvin
@Queen of Lurkers: Oh, geez it’s them? They’re bullshit artists. They made a big deal out of Hillary Clinton’s supposed early vote lead in 2016.
Qrop Non Sequitur
@Ohio Mom: All look valid to me, but I’m just barely squeaking into the millennial generation so I’m often a little in catch up mode.
Martin
I wonder how many voters this week are realizing that the GOP is going to run the federal government exactly the same way Musk is running Twitter.
The Pale Scot
I guess I clicked one the wrong thread, for stress
eatingdrinking I go with expresso MartinisFor de-stressing;
I’ve been writing a letter/song/poem to an old friend for a month now, and was watching Billy Crystal’s ode to Muhammad Ali. A song from Steve Perry’s 2018 album Traces appeared at the edge of the page. I always respected Steve’s talent, but pop rock wasn’t my thing. But JFC, he’s just as good as in the 80’s at 70 yrs of age. his range is rawer, but his micro control of his rasp and timber and register is incredible. The only comparison I can think of is Jimmy Cliff doing Many Rivers to Cross in his 70’s
Steve Perry – No More Cryin’
Lyrics are, well incredible. I have some more months ahead of me, hopefully by New Years
The Pale Scot
@The Pale Scot:
I guess I could post this too
Jimmy Cliff – Many Rivers To Cross
Ohio Mom
@The Pale Scot: Many more months of what? That sounds ominous.
Ohio Mom
@Martin: Not enough for my taste.
The Pale Scot
@Ohio Mom:
More months of tweaking the letter/song/poem. It’s the rewriting that takes its toll. I open the file once a day and then I see that I can do a phrase better.
No worries mate, It’s a labor of joy. Just trying to find my long lost muse
RandomMonster
To all of us—the best of luck tomorrow.
Ohio Mom
@The Pale Scot: Got it. You know it took Leonard Cohen years to write some of his songs?
The Oracle of Solace
Good luck. We’re all counting on you.
The Pale Scot
That’s it, there are songs in my head I wrote in HS, that I think are the best I ever did, and I still think I could improve on. But I I don’t have my musician friends from back in the day to help me out. Eddie and the Cruisers, “words and music” fingers crossed. I’m a Word Man, I need someone else to create the melodies and rhythms. I just have a standard set of R&B riffs in my head. The guys I jammed with back in the day were great musicians. Cancer has taken them all. It’s the price of growing up in Jersey
