More favorite pets today!
Wait, they are all favorites, right? Oh, right, these are favorite pictures! Enjoy!
🎄
This is my late kitty, Fuzzle. Fuzzle was a very friendly, outgoing cat. Anytime we would leave the house on foot, he would want to go along. Neighbors we’d never met, even the mailman, would greet him by name. I still miss him. (FelonyGovt)
🎄
Lucy at the shelter. Adopted 11/16! (eclare)
🎄
This is Punky. She’s been gone 2 years, but I talk to her every day. (daylong lurker)
🎄
This is Azul. He’s a puppy in this shot. He’s a couple years older now. (kindness)
🎄
Chauncey, bichon/poodle/lamb/polar bear cub mix (Mingobat)
🎄
Left to right: Iggy, getting his ear talked off by Ralphie, the very happy new guy, on the ride home from the shelter last Sunday. (Mingobat)
🎄
Muppet, feeling cute, might puke all over the car later. (Mingobat)
🎄
This is Doolin, who left us about a year and a half ago. Doolin appeared in the 2022 BJ Pet calendar (June) in a picture from his youth. Here he is about 17 years old, grey, a bit creaky, but still gorgeous to me because he was the sweetest, gentlest, wisest dog ever. (Pam DIRAC)
🎄
This is Ennis, our pure bred lab. She is a completely lovable goof. Mamasita is what we call her breeder, an old friend of mine. Last fall there was a national lab show in town and she got to meet her granddaughter, who won a bunch of big prizes. (Pam DIRAC)
🎄
This is Henry the dog and Jordy the cat. (I’m snabby, a perpetual lurker.)
🎄
Schmumpkins, my golden retriever, dressed for Christmas. Look how proud he is! (The Moar You Know)

Buddy (wmd)

RC Gizmo (wmd)
🎄
This is my cat Garfunkel, may she rest in peace. We got her while I was in grad school in California, moved with her to St. Louis for a postdoc, and then to Manhattan KS for a job. She was a very good cat. (Albatrossity)
🎄
Mac (Avalie)

Sheba (Avalie)
🎄
This is Juno on one of her daiy early morning walks. She’s 14 years old and she found us when she was 7. If it hadn’t have been for a Balloon Juice post on the joys of adopting an older dog, it probably wouldn’t have happened. (currawong)
🎄 End of Day 2 🎄

I’m loving all these critters! Every one of them sweet, gorgeous and clearly loved.
kindness
What fun. I consider my kids my furry children rather than my pets though. Yea I’m funny that way. They think they own me instead of the other way around.
rikyrah
Everyone looks cute.
Doolin looks regal :)
eclare
Awwww…so sweet. And my destructive house hippo Lucy is snoring on the couch beside me.
eclare
@rikyrah: He does, doesn’t he!
Major Major Major Major
Love them all! Especially the calicos, I’ve been in a pro-calico mood lately (not that I’m ever anti-).
In somewhat related news: I got the AI Samwise Generator v2.0 set up and it looks great!
WaterGirl
There is not a photographer in the world who could get Henry the dog and Jordy the cat to pose like that.
WaterGirl
@Major Major Major Major: Samwise looks like I’m in big trouble and about to get an ass-whooping!
eclare
@Major Major Major Major: That does look great!
WaterGirl
I would take a walk every day if I lived by the water like that. Several, in fact.
Joy in FL
love these photos, and all the animals are wonderful
zhena gogolia
All sweeties! Love the decorated golden!
mrmoshpotato
Schmumpkins < who’s the mad genius who came up with that?
WaterGirl
@mrmoshpotato: Nyms are in parenthesis.
The Moar You Know
Now obviously I have a dog in this fight but Doolin is beyond gorgeous. I’m going to guess: lab/Pyrenees cross. What do I win?
Schmumpkins is now 7 and a Guide Dog failure. I will never forget the day they called and asked if I wanted him. Made sure I understood he “had issues” (he is scared of cars and weirdly agoraphobic, as is his entire litter). I had raised him from a baby, did they think I didn’t know? Will never understand that to this day. There was nothing in the world that could have gotten me to say “no” and he is my best buddy.
My wife was the one who wanted a dog, so naturally, he decided that he was “my” dog.
I want to smooch all the critters here. And congratulations to Lucy!
The Moar You Know
@mrmoshpotato: Mrs. Moar is that mad genius.
CaseyL
I want to hug and kiss every critter in these photos.
Also: At first I didn’t realize the parens were the names of the persons who submitted the photos, so when I saw “(wmd)” for Buddy and Gizmo, I thought that was a description. As in, Cats Who Wreak Havoc.
Jude
I could enjoy these every day, even past Christmas. Henry makes my heart melt and that cat on the motorcycle is a stitch!
mrmoshpotato
@The Moar You Know: Excellent.

Quick update on preparing the kittens for the cold: bought a roll of attic bubble insulation at Lowes. Don’t know what it’s made of but it’s shiny. Lined one of the outdoor shelters I have for the other kitties and put it in the crate. Kittens were agitated so will wait until tomorrow to put their plush bed on top of the shelter, so they have a choice. Also got styrofoam panels to put on top of the crate and will cover everything with comforters tomorrow. Got foam board insulation and put it on the floor of the crate. I had raised the bottom of the crate off the concrete floor when I assembled it. Plan on adding the insulation to the other shelters tomorrow for the outdoor kitties. Weather guy is talking wind chills at -30.

OMG! All the photos of the fur babies prompt me into squeeeee! mode.
I am dog/house sitting for Jack, Cocker Spaniel and litter mate of my Lucy and Ollie, a 2.5 year old mini Aussie. I am surrounded by chaos, love and adorable.
eclare
@indycat32: Your kitties are lucky to have you!
WaterGirl
@Jude: With the rate these pics are coming in, at 10 people a day these will indeed go past Christmas.
WaterGirl
@Jude: I know. So many adorable photos!
Barbara
@indycat32: Wishing your kitties the best — they are definitely better of with you looking out for them!
WaterGirl
@Anotherlurker: I hope that squeee by squeee they are helping to ease the pain of your loss.
WaterGirl
@Jude: Cole told me yesterday that he was turning off his phone and going into hibernation for at least 3 days.
As an unintended consequence of our favorite pets series, I hope that if he does peek in on the blog that all these adorable dogs and cats and pups and kitties are maybe a tiny ray of sunshine for him.
PSA: There is a tag for these, so if anyone misses a day and wants an easy way to catch up, you can click on Favorite Dogs & Cats series and see all of them.
Miki
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ – these are all so fabulous! What a perfect mental palate cleanser.
sab
@indycat32: They would have had no chance of surviving this winter without your rescue. Not a full rescue yet, but they have a chance now.
eclare
@WaterGirl: Great idea. Assume with the flu diagnosis that he did not get in to see a therapist.
PAM Dirac
@The Moar You Know:
He was a calm, even serene dog and it did come across in his looks. He was adopted from a shelter who got him as a stray, so they didn’t have a history. We did do a DNA test on him and he came back as 25% lab, 25% weimaraner, 25% siberian husky, and 25% terrier mix.
PAM Dirac
Juno looks like she owns the place and knows it.
PAM Dirac
@rikyrah:
He was a benevolent ruler :-)
WaterGirl
@eclare: Which is the great idea? 3-day hibernation, a tag for the series, or the series itself?
WaterGirl
@PAM Dirac: A gentle giant.
zhena gogolia
Fuzzle is adorable.
zhena gogolia
I want to write love letters to all of them.
Ruckus
All the animals are beautiful but I think Henry and Jordy are as good as it gets.
Cat and dog friends, that’s something.
Anotherlurker
@WaterGirl: They are a laugh a minute especially when they jump on the bed at 6am! That should be lessened by crating Jack and Lucy for the night. That is their usual sleeping arrangements and they are comfortable with it.
I still think of my dear Addie, every day. Heck, I think of all my late pups everyday. I take delight in knowing that she would absolutely have loved to participate in the chaos, in her own quiet way.
Meanwhile, Lucy needs me and I need her. She gives me so much comfort. I have never had a puppy before, all my adoptees have been 5+ years old. I am now intimately familiar with the term “Puppy Madness”. The chaos and the learning/teaching are a lot of fun. Adopting Lucy was the best thing I could do for her and myself.
Anyway
Request to not have the full post show up on the front page … too much scrolling, ugh!
WaterGirl
@Anyway: Sorry, I try to remember that! Thanks for the nice reminder. Fixed.
(The snotty reminders, when they come, are not so welcome.)
What are the odds that I’ll remember tomorrow? Better than 50-50. :-)
wmd
@CaseyL:
lol
wmd are my initials; I’ve used them since the days of punch cards.
Buzzy is currently sleeping nearby in a chair. The picture was taken in the last week and it captures her very well.
RC (Rodent Control) Gizmo passed on Dec 31, 2016. The picture of him on my motorcycle is a favorie.
Ruckus
@kindness:
They think they own me instead of the other way around.
A hint. And they all do own us. Look at them, they may be a pain in the butt on occasion, but then they give you that look. We all have seen that look. We all like that look. And often it makes every other thing they do worth it.
kindness
@Ruckus: So true.
NotoriousJRT
@WaterGirl: You are da BOMB.
daize
Just love these. Thank you.
Jude
@WaterGirl:
A) You’re so sweet
B) My heart literally aches for him.
WaterGirl
@Jude: It’s gotta be a body blow to lose your first dog / doggie soulmate and then a month or two later lose your person.
TheOtherHank
I’ve got a picture I’d like to submit. Where do I send it? I’ve looked around and can’t find any obvious email addresses.
WaterGirl
@TheOtherHank: Great! Send email to my nym at balloon-juice.com
If you click on Contact Us in the white menu bar you’ll find an example and instructions.
Manyakitty
@WaterGirl: awesome! Look for some of my jokers, too!! Thank you for this!
