Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

People are complicated. Love is not.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

“More of this”, i said to the dog.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

All your base are belong to Tunch.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

Americans barely caring about Afghanistan is so last month.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

🎶 Those boots were made for mockin’ 🎵

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

Two little episodes from today’s rolling shitshow. First, ha ha fucking ha:

What was up with Gosar and Gaetz talking to AOC? They wanted to know if D's might skip a vote to give McCarthy a path to victory. She said no.

Also: Gosar did not apologize during their exchange for posting a video of himself murdering her. https://t.co/FUIglKPztl

— Benjy Sarlin (@BenjySarlin) January 3, 2023

I guess those two jeniuses thought that AOC somehow had the caucus in the palm of her hand, or they were too scared to actually talk to leadership, or they are just bumbling, seditious oafs.

Second, James Fallows calling out stenographer Robert Costa:

Let's see how this stands up.

My guess: Not well.

(Were the "sources" purely GOP? Or any Dems.) https://t.co/VqWaGmdIoP

— James Fallows (@JamesFallows) January 3, 2023

The reality is that Democrats stuck together and voted three times as a caucus, and the Republicans showed their asses.

    First!

And bahahahahaha, what a clown show — with apologies to actual clowns. To paraphrase Stonekettle:

The Republicans House jumped the tracks, careened down the embankment, smashed through a circus, plowed over a weasel farm and slammed into the river, where it burst into flames, rolled over, and exploded, raining down flaming weasels and burning clown shrapnel over the terrorized countryside.

nah, they just can’t imagine someone wouldn’t grab such a great opportunity to put themselves in the limelight. they think everyone is just like them. or maybe they are so dumb they thought she was Sinema?

I assume the Democrats did a quick check-in (“Same thing tomorrow, right?”) and went home for dinner and a full eight hours sleep. I’m thinking the Republicans, not so much. Watch for people nodding off tomorrow.

They think anyone can be bought, they just don’t realize the bullshit they have to pay someone off doesn’t work outside of the clown caucus.

@artem1s: I’d say it’s more likely that they think she’s a wildcard so they might have a shot if they pitched it to her.  They probably thought AOC and a few of her buddies might like the chance to stick it to the man, aka their own party leadership.

I would not be surprised if the Toddler Caucus decided to do some kind of dopey walkout.  It might take a few days before they get bored/confused enough to forget the rules and run off for their attention fix.

It wouldn’t really hurt them in the end, because they don’t want to do any work, and they could just squeal about it on Tucker’s White Power Hour: “…all because of McCarthy’s weakness as a RINO, something something word salad….”

@WaterGirl: It’s projection.  They automatically assume that the Democratic left is as stupid and venal as the Republican right

Reminder.  Pelosi had the SAME EXACT 4 seat House majority in 2020 as the GOP has today.  We are not the same as them.

I rank Robert Costa’s story right up there with the stories that Democrats are talking about pairing with “moderate” Republicans on a compromise candidate. I’m going to consider both of them bullshit until proven otherwise by actual concrete action.

And, with respect to the latter story, it wouldn’t fucking work! Nobody in the Democratic caucus is dumb enough to believe it would.

I would be very surprised, as that would result in Jeffries becoming the Speaker of the House, at least temporarily. They are lazy, venal and dumb, but not that dumb.

Yeah, Jeffries would only remain speaker as long at it took for the dipshits to walk back into the Chamber.  So no point getting exited about that.

Question for anyone…Would Jeffries have to take the job?  If there’s some parliamentary rule that would allow him to refuse (or force another vote) I don’t see him willingly standing in the crosshairs of a crazed Republican majority. Nancy didn’t pick a dummy to succeed her.
