Not as stressful. Air tags attached to both animals.
I am stiff and sore. Blood pressure is back to normal.
Did not have my fitbit on last night and did not get any credit for the 60,000 steps I spent looking for Prescott.
Shit is expensive here and we will not be eating out much.
Still alive.
something fabulous
glad to see things are better! what on earth is an AirTag?
la caterina
It’s nice to hear that things seem to have calmed down a bit, Cole. Enjoy the sunshine. And post more Prescott pics!
Urza
I would guess things are more expensive than W. Va. pretty much anywhere with population density. But given food is one of the most inflated things of late I would expect that to show up almost everywhere eventually.

Holy hell, John, I missed the first chapter of this story. Just read it, and: Holy hell.
I devoutly hope all is smooth sailing from this point out. Treat yourself to something wonderful: a mani-pedi, a fabulous meal, whatever. Anything.
You’ve earned it.

@something fabulous:
It’s an Apple doohickey that you attach to someone/something so that you can track their/its whereabouts and/or movements with an iPhone app. Useful if you have small children, pets, or objects that might tempt the lightfingered.

Good news.

Why am I envisioning John running around The Villages in a tricked out golf cart?
mrmoshpotato
@kindness: Pimp My Golf Cart?
Another Scott
@Amir Khalid: But kinda useless if one finds a dog running around with one and doesn’t have an iPhone, no??
(There was a dog out of its yard following us on our walk one evening. It had one of those tags on its collar, and nothing else. I didn’t want it following us far from its home, so I took a chance and knocked on a door, and fortunately guessed right.
Yeah, I guess the kids let him out…))
Sometimes non-digital things are actually best. ;-)
Cheers,
Scott.

@something fabulous: I had no idea, either. I googled just now.

Glad you’re feeling better, Cole.
Shit is *always* expensive in resort towns — good thing you know how to cook!
mrmoshpotato
@WaterGirl: Can the airtags yell at you, “Your keys are in the couch cushions again, bonehead!”
Albatrossity
Airtags are a great idea. Hope you get some sleep tonight!

Apple co-opts everyone’s iphones and other apple devices to collect air tag locations. When an air tag’s blue tooth connection encounters an apple device, that device broadcasts its location and the tag id to apple which sends it to the person who owns the air tag. After some time, the apple device will beep to tell the iphone owner that it’s tracking an air tag for Apple – this inadequate feature is designed to warn people that there is an airtag nearby in case the air tag is not tracking a dog but is hidden in the iphone owner’s car, bags, clothing or other property and is being used to stalk the owner of the iphone. (The idea is that if the tag is moving with the iphone owner so tag and iphone stay linked for a long time it means the tag is following the owner and not some passing dog.)
jackmac
AirTags at the bare minimum to keep the beasts monitored. What an ordeal you had.
mrmoshpotato
@sralloway: Exactly! And it’s gotta have a crazy sound system!

@Amir Khalid: That reminds me: while I’m up here in Vancouver I got to sample some Malaysian food. I got roti canna, kare laksa, and pulut durian. An Indonesian friend helped me yet didn’t seem too irritated I went Malay for my meal. It was quite delicious!
mrmoshpotato
@Baud: It would have all-terrian tires – including sand traps and water hazards.
WaterGirl
@mrmoshpotato: I think that requires a software upgrade!
Faithful Lurker
@Yutsano: I’m extremely jealous. I really miss Malaysian food with all its variety, Indian, Chinese, Malay, etc.
Starfish
@WaterGirl: These devices can be used for stalking, so there is an app called AirGuard so you can see if any AirTags are following you when they shouldn’t be.
WaterGirl
@Starfish: That’s smart. Let’s hope the dogs aren’t smart enough to use that to get around the air tags and escape.

Am also in the Great Fascist State. We get fresh seafood from various local markets and grill with vegetables. Last night did Thai takeout to the delight of all. You can save a ton of dinero cooking “at home” and mix it up with some to-go when you don’t feel like cooking but you already know that. Seriously, get yourself some fresh stuff and have at.
mrmoshpotato
Touchscreen toasters exist! What madness is this?!

The Villages has been crawling with custom golf carts for years; Street Rods, Hummers, you name it.
Amir Khalid
@Yutsano:
Indonesian food is actually a lot like Malaysian Malay food. It’s essentially the same ethnic community with the same culture. And yes, Malaysian food is fantastic, anywhere in the world you find it.
@Faithful Lurker:
Did you have a favourite state cuisine while you were here?
Jackie
@mrmoshpotato: Can AirTags be attached to mustard jars?
Yutsano
@Faithful Lurker: Am very sad I will be leaving this area tomorrow. Richmond BC is actually a decent area of the city. Plus you can get to YVR so easily.

@Jackie: Too late.

Has Prescott forgiven you for ruining his vacation?

@kindness: Cargo shorts and the whitest legs in the tri-county region. On a golf cart.

Just came to this thread, glad to hear things are going better, but
WHERE ARE THURSTON AND STEVE WHILE YOU ARE CHASING OTHER DOGS IN FLORIDA????
different-church-lady
It’s that last one that counts for the most.
Steeplejack
@Another Scott:
You can’t set up an AirTag with an Android device, but you can track/identify one with the Tracker Detect app on Android.
Note: I have no direct experience of this, but I have looked into it a bit.

@mrmoshpotato:
All of it, Katie.
mrmoshpotato
@Jackie:
I would suppose so, but you’d also need a time machine.

@mrmoshpotato: We need to look forward, not back.

“If you find someone else’s AirTag, touch the white side to your phone to see a phone number or message from the owner of the AirTag.”
Of course! How intuitive!!

@mrmoshpotato: No, against the Packers in ‘95. But, he was instrumental in getting Da Bears to the SB.

@WaterGirl: To add to the description, because the utility is hard to understand – the location of an AirTag is broadcast to you by *any* iPhone that is in range of it, or any Android phone with the AirTag software on it. Given how common iPhones are, it basically means your AirTag location is updated about every 60 seconds, even if it’s nowhere near you.
For older iPhones it relies on Bluetooth to ping the AirTag, so anyone who gets within 50-100′ will ping it. For newer iPhones it’ll use Apple’s UWB and ping it about double that range.

Next weekend you can go to a garden show festival of chocolate https://fairchildgarden.org/miami-botanical-garden/a-festival-of-chocolate/
I have decided not to grow chocolate plants as chocolate is poisonous to pets but it has tempted me. I would certainly go see how they are grown, fermented and processed. Instead, I am tempted by the various plants that have a chocolate scent. Anyway chocolate fruit are the wierdest looking alien fruit I have ever seen pictures of.

Also you are near an amazing beach Blowing Rocks https://www.nature.org/en-us/get-involved/how-to-help/places-we-protect/blowing-rocks-preserve/
which is not a typical sandy Florida beach. Very picturesque so take a camera.

Consensus is that significant relaxation requires FOUR days — even a long weekend isn’t quite enough — and REAL relaxation requires TEN. Stay the course and everything’ll be fine.
Steeplejack
I must have missed it—do we know roughly where Cole is? Not the secure location itself, just the general area.
WaterGirl
@Steeplejack: I saw it on a map, and the Bahamas were close by, if that helps. Definitely toward the bottom of the middle finger that Florida continues to give us.
WaterGirl
@pat: Not to worry, someone is staying at Cole’s house taking care of Thurston and Steve.

John, I saw your tweet yesterday about massage services in Palm Beach County, and I suggested either a sports massage place or a Hand & Stone Spa in your area.
