Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

Let me file that under fuck it.

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Our messy unity will be our strength.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

Mediocre white men think RFK Jr’s pathetic midlife crisis is inspirational. The bar is set so low for them, it’s subterranean.

People really shouldn’t expect the government to help after they watched the GOP drown it in a bathtub.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

Come on, man.

Republicans firmly believe having an abortion is a very personal, very private decision between a woman and J.D. Vance.

Those who are easily outraged are easily manipulated.

Republicans do not trust women.

Many life forms that would benefit from greater intelligence, sadly, do not have it.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

Watergirl texted me today asking for proof of life and I realized I have been lacking on the updates. Time has just been flying by. I’ve eaten a remarkable amount of thai food and Mexican, and every night I treat myself to a gelato.

Other than that, just living the good life. Feeling better.

Eating a remarkable amount of food and having gelato seems to be the kind of stuff you SHOULD be doing on a vacation.

    Be inspiring, sir, be inspiring!

@Elizabelle: I have it on the best authority they’re doing fine too.

@NotMax: I keep saying!! No Florida visit is complete without Cubanos and a grouper Sammie.

And I continue on the train voyage of the damned. Now running 11 hours late. They keep us plied with food though, so it’s a tired but congenial crowd due to constant food coma.

Where are you voyaging too?  Whereabouts are you now?

@mrmoshpotato: on the Amtrak California Zephyr, currently switching crew and unloading passengers in Reno NV. Heading ultimately to Colfax, CA; where due to the delay I got a hotel, and my friend from down the road in Auburn CA will retrieve me in the morning. It’s all good. Definitely a scenic way to see the country and make new friends.

@mrmoshpotato: slow, but steady. Looks like we’re going to be going through the Donner Pass next, and I can’t even enjoy any views, it’s pitch dark out.

Usually no cell coverage either, so about to lose service soon.

@mrmoshpotato: Not positive I went through that without checking the train route, but yes, it was daylight until we hit the long series of tunnels. By the end of that the sun had set.

And one of my new besties is an 84 year old  man who was going to downhill ski.

Waiting on a late night open thread. Got a few bits ‘n’ bobs plucked from Wednesday’s newsy stew and don’t want to harsh this thread’s mellow.

If not they’ll keep until morning. Although the timestamp on morning threads has been all over the clockface recently, so sometimes Morpheus permits nought more than sampling the morning’s volute of commentary later on.

Have fun.  Glad you saw some Rockies.  And snow, I guess

It’s so good to get away once in a while!  Especially if you can enjoy being there with a good pal or two.
