Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

Despite his magical powers, I don’t think Trump is thinking this through, to be honest.

You cannot shame the shameless.

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

Just because you believe it, that doesn’t make it true.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

This Will Be a Hoot

This should be fun to watch:

A special grand jury that investigated election interference by former President Donald J. Trump and his allies in Georgia recommended indictments for multiple people on a range of charges in its final report, most of which remains sealed, the forewoman of the jury said on Tuesday.

“It is not a short list,” the forewoman, Emily Kohrs, said in an interview.

Ms. Kohrs, 30, declined to name the people recommended for indictment, since the judge handling the case decided to keep those details secret when he made public a few sections of the report last week. But seven sections that are still under wraps deal with indictment recommendations, Ms. Kohrs said.

Special grand juries in Georgia do not have indictment powers. Fani T. Willis, the district attorney of Fulton County, Ga., has led the investigation and will decide what charges to bring before a regular grand jury.

I’m assuming there will be a bunch of state level names, but what big names do you think will be indicted?

I am hoping for Lindsey Graham just because I think I’ll hear his indignant screams all the way out here in Oregon.  If tRump gets indicted, it will be incredibly fun.

I realised today while listening to the latest Jack and Daily Beans podcasts that I follow this stuff closely on a daily basis, and there’s so much that I can’t keep track of it all anymore.

I wonder when we’ll actually see the list of recommendations, or if the next thing we’ll see will be real live indictments?

The host of the Daily Beans podcast (Allison Gill; cohosts the Jack podcast with Andrew McCabe) said today that she expects this to be a week packed with news. I think she meant more than just this piece of the puzzle too.

also, much as I hate generational buzzwords, here’s one for the Boomers

Almost 60 years since first meeting, it looks like the Rolling Stones and the two surviving Beatles may come together on a new Stones album. Varietyhears from multiple sources that Paul McCartney has recorded bass parts for a forthcoming Rolling Stones project being helmed by 2021 Grammy producer of the year Andrew Watt. Ringo Starr is also slated to play on the yet-to-be-announced album.

Don’t like to be the wet blanket but I’m not sure if we can expect too much from all this.

If a poor person of color tries to vote in the wrong precinct our judicial system views it as an act of electoral terrorism.  But a rich white dude in a suit making improper phone calls to public officials is going to be seen as a mere technicality, a breach of protocol.  I expect a slap on the wrist and a 500 dollar fine.

And as usual I hope I’m wrong.

Now listening to the former-prosecutor-du-soir: “Well, that’s your jury”. He doesn’t sound impressed. Michael Moore, not that one, I wonder if he’s the guy who said, wrt any trials and their jurors and the chances of conviction: It may be Fulton County, but it’s still Georgia.

I take my inspiration from those experts in British jurisprudence, Gilbert and Sullivan:

    I’ve got a little list — I’ve got a little list
Of society offenders who might well be underground
And who never would be missed — who never would be missed!

    [Chorus]
    He’s got ’em on the list — he’s got ’em on the list;

Relatedly, TFG has spent (so far) $10 million of his PAC on attorney fees per Political Wire:

“Former President Donald Trump, who throughout his business career had a reputation for not paying lawyers, spent roughly $10 million from his political action committee on his own legal fees last year, federal election filings show,” the New York Times reports.

“The money that went to Mr. Trump’s legal bills was part of more than $16 million that Mr. Trump’s PAC, Save America, spent for legal-related payments in 2021 and 2022.”

“Some of the $16 million appears to have been for lawyers representing witnesses in investigations related to Mr. Trump’s efforts to cling to power. But the majority of it — about $10 million — went to firms directly representing Mr. Trump in a string of investigations and lawsuits, including some related to his company, the filings showed.”

Okay, Lawrence O’Donnell is recapping the interview with the Georgia grand jury foreewoman, and the interviewer was not Alex Wagner. It was Blayne Alexander with the dismal interviewing.

Oh, jeez, now this person is gushing about how she wished Trump had been subpoenaed, because it would have been cool for her to swear him in. But she did say that it would probably have gummed up the process for a long time.

@Tony G: She  makes me afraid and also confirms my jury duty experience.  Her take on Trump’s call to Brad Raffensperger absolutely baffled me.  She reminded me of a Q Anon Q Drops “analyst,” who just spent a year imbibing grand jury procedure as her Q Drops.  But, then I have no respect for a 30 year old who has never voted and had no awareness of such an important event in the civic life of her state let alone her country.
