Meanwhile, Faux News correspondent is required to fake outrage. A campaign rally for democracy, indeed!
Peter Doocy characterizes Biden's Warsaw speech as "not the solemn set of remarks that we were kind of told to expect based on the existential threats that [Biden] sees. It has almost a campaign rally feel, like if they were having a campaign rally for democracy." pic.twitter.com/dM8coQjFCW

If we hadn’t been exposed to so much Ted Cruz already, some might suspect this Cruz fella was a mole inside the GOP…
The fact that this comes just as Biden finishes up a massively important foreign policy trip and Trump flew out to East Palestine just to give a purely political speech is just <chef’s kiss> https://t.co/ywV5cKw5RU

The comments on Ted’s twitter feed is ::chefs kiss:: The fucker who left during a snow storm to vacation elsewhere while his constituents suffer – that guy is going to lecture Biden about not going to East Palestine? Spare me the outrage, Ted.

lol – Doocy trying hard to spin it however he can. That’s one lose-y doocy.

c’mon, its Young Master Pete representing Unka Rupe, as far as Faux is concerned, every day that Biden doesn’t resign solemnly and cede the Presidency to Trump is a day that doesn’t meet their “expectations”, after all, they have all THAT evidence that proves otherwise, with that thing and that video and those testimonials from patriotic Americans and everything.
I do adore the fact that Ted is noting that SOME Capitol Police did indeed move barriers to allow rioters easier access to the Capitol, what Ted never seems to acknowledge is that this IS a problem, not a feature and it’s not as if those folks behaved themselves as tourists upon reaching the doors, but hey its not as if we ever expect Ted to include any context.

Well I’m no US Campaign consultant, but I’d put a rally for democracy as a campaign theme before a rally to trash the Congress and bashing Capital police, but you do you Doocy. They are effed if they think that Biden’s trip won’t be, rightly, part of his re-election campaign.
What are they going to say?
He shouldn’t have gone?
Who cares about democracy?
Good luck with that in a general election.
They are such tools, and stupid ones at that.

@Amir Khalid: on Morning Joe yesterday (Wednesday), the reporter from Kyviv made the same “ campaign” observation. It seemed to be designed to diminish the events.

I ♥️ Hillary. She’s such a team player. I’d be a black hole of resentment if I were her.
Bruce K in ATH-GR
Side note: my parents, retired here in Greece, used to like to watch the NewsHour to keep up with the world, back when they were in the US and they could watch it at six o’clock in the evening. Now, however, there’s the slight issue that although they can get rebroadcasts on YouTube on their TV, it’s yesterday’s news (given that 6pm on the East Coast is 1am in Athens). They’ve started watching Morning Joe in the evenings, because it’s a little more up-to-date, but they’re not really all that thrilled with it.
Can the jackaltariat recommend a US morning news program that’s (a) better than Morning Joe and (b) available to stream in Europe on something like YouTube?
Amir Khalid
@Bruce K in ATH-GR:
I understand your parents’ annoyance with Morning Joe. It really annoys me that he and Mika Brzezinski make a habit of talking over their guests.
Van Buren
When my FOX addicted mom was repeating the critism of Biden not going to Ohio, I said, “You know if he went, they’d all be complaining about his presence diverting resources from the cleanup operation, right?”. She had nothing to say.
Baud
@Van Buren:
Good.
Irishweaver
@Van Buren: exactly. It is criticism no matter what!
Geminid
@Van Buren: The problem I have with a prospective visit to E. Palestine by the President is that it would affirm the exaggerated importance this event has been given by administration’s opponents.
It was a serious incident for sure, but it was not “another Chernobyl,” and the water supply for the entire Ohio River basin was not put at risk, as bad faith critics have persuaded their more credulous auditors. I think visits by EPA Secretary Regan and by DOT Secretary Buttegieg today give this problem the attention it merits.
The train wreck was a big sensation on the internet, hyped by administration critics left and right. The story spread far and wide; I even ran into it on the Twitter account of an Iranian defense analyst. He interrupted his discussion of the F-35 fighter’s stealth prowess versus Iran’s low-band radar capability to retweet a provocative story about the train wreck.
The story’s author happened to be a leading US anti-vaxxer, better known for his “documentary” about the sudden deaths of vaccine recipients.
geg6
Well, just had an interesting story on the local CBS station regarding Cheetolini’s visit to East Palestine. The clip of the speech was only about 10 seconds of him criticizing and blaming Biden. Then they fact checked with how it was his administration that ended two Obama era safety rules for trains that he ended. Basically, they were saying that if anyone is to blame, it’s Cheetolini.
Honus
@geg6: but you miss the point. Biden should have corrected TFG’s gutting of rail safety by now. It’s not like he had anything else to do.
Also, they keep saying “campaign rally for democracy” like that’s a bad thing.
geg6
@Honus:
Well, it certainly wasn’t framed that way. Which is why it made me sit up and pay attention.
Baud
@Geminid:
The commentary on the train wreck has been a train wreck.
Anne Laurie
Truth. I hate to be that person, but ‘industrial accident in Ohio‘ is a little like ‘subway incident in NYC’ — if the latest one isn’t messy enough for the media, there will be another one along shortly.
And I say this as someone who bought, and lives in, a house located on *two* listed Superfund sites. As a civil engineer of our acquaintance told us, what that means is we have a list of the chemicals contaminating our ground water… and a clause in our FEMA mortgage that we’re not allowed to dig a well. (Our tap water, which is certified pure is drawn from a reservoir in the next town over.)

Trump, Who Deregulated the Railroad Industry, Lies to the People of Ohio in His Visit
Trump’s environmental rollbacks in focus on visit to Ohio toxic train site

Woke up yesterday with an awful cold. I worried that covid had finally caught up with me after I’d dodged the virus for nearly three years, but so far, I’ve tested negative. So I think it’s just a regular old crappy cold. Do I need to test again? I think with all the symptoms (hacking, sneezing, achiness, etc.) the test would have caught it if it were covid, but I do have extra tests.

@Betty Cracker: I hope they got new water bottles relabeled, because the Trump Ice bottled water was discontinued in 2010. Though wikipedia says he still has Mountain Ice water relabeled for his properties, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was “donating” old stock. He’s that kind of a guy.
Betty Cracker
@Jay: Good to know — thank you!
satby
@Betty Cracker: @David 🌈 ☘The Establishment☘🌈 Koch: you can test again to be sure, but don’t assume “just a cold” will be benign. That’s what started the cascade of illness that took six weeks for me to recover from: cold > acute bronchitis > acute asthma flare up. Ironically, I almost never get sick when everyone else is catching the bug du jour. So that’ll teach me.
satby
@Dorothy A. Winsor: IL and MI had large outages, assumed MN too by the weather reports. Glad yours is back on.
Geminid
@satby: I figure he’ll take a charitable deduction on the water, at an inflated value.
He can’t inflate the value of the McDonald’s food though. Now I wish a reporter had shouted questions at him at the McDonald’s:
“Mr. Trump! How would you rate these burgers for aerodynamics? What about adhesion?”

I just got email from the library, which is next door to us. Their power is still out. Because my building houses some vulnerable people, we’re a priority for power restore. But then, libraries are high on the restore list too
Dorothy A. Winsor
Also, this building has two restaurants in it. We often carry out dinner from one or the other. I can’t imagine what it would have been like in there at 6pm when the power went off
SFAW
@Dorothy A. Winsor:
So you’re not in Florida or Texas, I guess?
Anyway, glad you have power restored. I’m hoping I don’t have to get our backup generator fired up, but they’re not predicting super-bad conditions here in Central MA.
cmorenc
The snide way Doocey says the word “democracy” near the end of the clip is an indication of Fox’s contempt for democracy – characterizing the speech as a “campaign rally for…” is more an indication of Fox’s contempt for Biden.
