Talk about a soundtrack from hell: (Jezebel)
Page Six reported Friday that Mar-a-Lago guests have been making sure they show up for dinner on Thursdays, because that’s when Trump takes over the tunes. An “insider” told the outlet that the former president is “on an iPad—usually from his table—so he eats and plays. He loves the ’80s and Broadway tunes—like ‘Phantom of the Opera’—and Celine Dion, ‘Titanic.’ ” (I think they mean “My Heart Will Go On,” but I’ll let this source slide.)
Sweet tap-dancing Christ, can you imagine? Open thread.
HumboldtBlue
Cocaine.
It explains a lot.
And may I add — I did not expect to find Ignacio Loyola or Betty bringing a Trump soundtrack to the party on my Bingo card.
Now I feel dirty.
🐾BillinGlendaleCA
Sounds as bad as the music they play at The Home of the Orange Apron, then again, I have to put up with that for 8 hours.
Emma from Miami
Sweet mother of pearl. is there a gif for upchucking violently?
El Cruzado
This would be a good moment to remind everyone that TFG is also obsessed with Sunset Boulevard.
It’s the kind of character detail that would get you laughed off a writer’s room as “too on the nose”.
JWR
I wonder if he wears a leather disco suit while doin’ the house? (Not really, but that was the first image that came to mind.) Dude’s a fucking weirdo. In other news, from NBC:
Amir Khalid
Some should sneak some 1980s hair metal onto TFG’s iPad playlist.
Baud
Oh Mickey, you’re so fine
You’re so fine, you blow my mind
Hey Mickey 👏👏, hey Mickey👏👏
kalakal
Anyone who chooses to be a guest at that pestilential hole deserves to have TFGs musical taste inflicted on them.
For anyone else I’d call it cruel & unusual but for these toadies…
Betty Cracker
@Baud: Perfect emoji placement!
Amir Khalid
@El Cruzado:
Does TFG see himself as Norma Desmond? That would explain quite a bit.
kalakal
Motorhead would be fun
& 21st Century Schizoid Man would be a real treat

I was in a Chipotle today and the music was crazy good. It started with an old classic country song, then jazz, then some sort of techno, then, well I don’t really know what it was but it sounded great. I asked the lady behind the counter where this music came from and she didn’t know — “the building pipes it in”. O.K. Best and most remarkably eclectic background music I have heard maybe ever.
danielx
Insomnia sucks.
lowtechcyclist
Gah! If I had to hear “My Heart Will Go On” one more time, the heart of the responsible person might come to an abrupt stop.
I was somewhere the other day where the piped-in music was unexpectedly both eclectic and good, ranging from Dusty Springfield to the Lumineers, with a number of stops in between. I’m guessing the Publix in Plant City, where I was doing an early morning grocery run last weekend, but I’m really not sure.
Betty
I yelped when I first started reading this because I thought he was doing karaoke. At least he is just playing the music. It could be worse.
Amir Khalid
@lowtechcyclist:
Being I’m a pedant, what bugs me about My Heart Will Go On is the lyrics. “My heart will go on” means my heart will endure. “My heart will go on and on” means my heart won’t shut the hell up. And every time I hear Celine Dion sing the latter, I cringe.
Amir Khalid
@Betty:
TFG singing karaoke would clear the room of even the most sycophantic audience.
David 🌈 ☘The Establishment☘🌈 Koch
Sounds like “John Barron” planted that story
different-church-lady
Now all I can think of is an iPad covered in ketchup. Thanks.

@HumboldtBlue:
And not just about Trump.

@JWR: MAGAs have an insult for what McCarthy is doing: virtue signaling. They claim to hate it, but it seems perfectly fine when someone pretends to have their values. Their entire cult is built on virtue signaling.
prostratedragon
Familiar tune, another language.
Shalimar
@Amir Khalid: In the context of the movie, her true love did become a popsicle. She had a lot to endure, and also got famous for enduring it.
trnc
Sure, yuck, but aside from how anyone feels about the particular choices, this seems like yet one more attempt to normalize the nazi next door. Not by Jezebel, of course, but by the fuckers who would make the decision to go to MAL on a regular basis.
Shalimar
@Shalimar: That wasn’t clear at all. What I meant was she lived her entire life for the popsicle, so it seems like her heart never did shut up.
mrmoshpotato
Awwww, Dump gets to play with an iPad. How nice of the adults in the room.
ETA – and this is newsworthy because? These idiots just can’t quit the orange fartcloud (that farts loud – thank you, autoincorrect).
Shalimar
@trnc: They flock to him. Maybe he’s searching for the right theme song when the time for Flavor-aid comes. He’s a narcissist, so you know he would love to take millions of followers with him when he dies.
RandomMonster
The problem with this story is that I’m now picturing him doing that little dance/strut with his fists at chest level and and a motion that looks like he’s jerking off two dudes.

Vice hollering?
Sin screeching?

I mean, his big first dance with Melania at his inaugural ball was to a recording of Frank Sinatra singing “My Way.” The most obvious, brain-dead choice possible. In the slot where the Obamas brought in Beyoncé to sing “At Last” live. That should have been the final clue, to anyone still in the dark, that there were no hidden depths, or details, or anything, to TFG.
Of course, the only people still in the dark about that were (checks notes) the people who get paid six and seven figures to cover national politics.
Turns my stomach every time I remember those people. Trump couldn’t win a race based on issues and policy, AND he couldn’t win a race based on who you’d rather hang out with. They had to work SO hard to drag him over the line.

What are the chances Trump or Mar-a-lago has been paying royalties for their weekly performance?
Keith P.
Trump’s *also* the asshole who wants to be DJ at all the parties?!?! Honestly, that’d be on the bottom of my odds sheet.
Keith P.
@Emma from Miami: There’s this. And this. And this.
Anonymous At Work
I would wish this upon my enemies, but no one else.
sdhays
@Keith P.: I hadn’t thought about it, but really it’s just another item on the list of least-surprising-things. Of course the gigantic narcissist wants everyone to listen to whatever he wants to listen to.
RepubAnon
@sdhays: We need to slip William Shatner’s “Transformed Man” onto Trumpski’s iPad… his cover of Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds, singing like Captain Kirk would have done, always gets a reaction
trnc
The easiest way would be to leave it at the gate in an envelope marked “Classified Audio.”
different-church-lady
@Tony Jay: I vote #2
different-church-lady
@waspuppet: Even Sinatra himself came to hate that song!
different-church-lady
@trnc: No, then everyone else would have it too.
What Have the Romans Ever Done for US?
Presumably Jesus, being the physical manifestation of an all powerful God, is an excellent tap dancer but I doubt TFG is playing anything even he can tapdance to.
Keith P.
@What Have the Romans Ever Done for US?: Did you watch “Preacher”? Mentioning Jesus tap-dancing makes me think of that Humperdoo scene (Humperdoo being a very, very inbred descendent of Jesus)
gratuitous
A circle of Hell that would require the greatest of Dante’s creative powers to describe and populate.

What, no Village People and no Memory from Cats on the Trump top 40? Memory is like The Forgotten Wingnut Dumbass anthem from what I’ve seen.
I’ll bet Phantom of the Opera is Trump’s idea of being cultured and refined.
MattF
One assumes the ‘insider’ revealing this essential information is The Man himself.

They mention 80s songs, but I bet it’s just YMCA played on an infinite loop.

@HumboldtBlue:
Cocaine made everyone I know rather mellow. Or at least much less able to do much of anything other than relax and enjoy.
Now I’m sure that some will react differently and SFB surely is different than any normal, rational, healthy, not deranged individual but I can’t see it being cocaine. A lot of people I knew tried it or were regulars and not one became as irrational, unhealthy, deranged as SFB. Of course he’s been that way for a long time and has a son who seems to be a hell of an abnormal, irrational, unhealthy, deranged individual. Maybe it’s conservatism, that’s a hell of a drug.

@Betty:
It could be worse?
You’d have to be in his presence, at his shithole “club,” way over paying for the privilege of being exposed to his lunacy, a conservative, a moron, pompous – maybe not to his level but way above normal, arrogant and even less intelligent.
What in the hell could be worse than that?
Ruckus
@RandomMonster:
How do you know he’s not?
Not trying to enhance the picture you made, just asking – because nothing seems rational around him.
dr. luba
@waspuppet: To be fair, no one wanted to play Trump’s inauguration except for a few has beens, and he couldn’t have that!!
But, yes, a brain dead choice. Now, if he’s played the Sid Vicious version……
JarheadJFK
I’m surprised considering that Trump grew up in the NYC area during the late 50s/early 60s. I would have expected a lot of Doo Wop.
JDM
Back when we were RVing fulltime pre-streaming we’d listen to local radio. Some stations would have a noontime request show. Inevitably the request time was filled with “Can you play ‘Satisfaction’ by the Stones?” and the like, often songs they’d played that morning.
Now I know who was calling in.

@sdhays: There’s apparently no aspect of Trump’s life that is not childish and stupid. The fact that tens of millions of Americans worship that guy is horribly depressing.

My supermarket plays a decent mix of music, but only one channel of the stereo mix. Makes it a bit unusual.

What, no one has made the “DJ Trump” (his real initials) joke yet?
