Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

I didn’t have alien invasion on my 2023 BINGO card.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

Today’s GOP: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

Their freedom requires your slavery.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

It’s the corruption, stupid.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

When do the post office & the dmv weigh in on the wuhan virus?

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

Despite his magical powers, I don’t think Trump is thinking this through, to be honest.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

On February 24, millions of us made a choice. Not a white flag, but the blue and yellow one. Not fleeing, but facing. Resisting & fighting.
It was a year of pain, sorrow, faith, and unity. And this year, we remained invincible. We know that 2023 will be the year of our victory! pic.twitter.com/oInWvssjOI

When all you have is a ‘my priors’ template, everything looks like ‘another American quagmire’…

did you know that a group of weasels can be called a business of weasels? this article has a business of weasel words all the way through. just a ton of "[x] *could* happen" statements that should've been cut if anyone competent were editing it.

My bar for calling something a forever war is to wait until after at least a single solider is sent into combat. https://t.co/bcBkuOaOyU

— Mike L. Goodman (@TheM_L_G) February 24, 2023

I will be legitimately angry for a long time about the cohort of people who demanded less war, got a president who does less war and decided to pretend he was doing war anyway.

… But at least the ‘forever war’ doomsters haven’t sunk to Reicht-winger ‘if we shut our eyes, nobody can see us’ levels:

Putin bootlickers are now reaching flat earth levels of delusion by claiming that the "lack of live footage" means the Ukraine war isn't real. No, it's real. You're just losing. pic.twitter.com/F5WsHdy1Jv

Not even Russian media is pretending this war isn't happening.

You absolute puddings have memed yourself into a stance that is so ridiculous even Russian propogandists looked at it and went, "no, that would just be nuts."

I love Ze’s forcefulness in that last clip. And he’s exactly right.

Also LOL forever at putin caring about “the nuclear family”, sure okay, a man who isn’t married and has random mistresses and probably legit forgets he has children out there and would not give a single fuck if any of them died.

That’s so unfair!  He’s a family man,  devoted to  his wives!  Why, when he divorced his first wife, he made sure she got properly remarried, and to a man twenty years her junior!  What a kind and loving (ex-)husband, wouldn’t you say?

I just want to say that Oregon’s laws regarding edibles are weird. You are limited to 1 pound of candy per day. For example, you can buy one brand that has 100 mg. of the good stuff per every 2 oz. for a total of 800 mg. of the good stuff in a pound. Or you can buy another brand that has 100 mg. of the good stuff per every .42 oz for a total of 3,800 mg. per pound. The first one costs $138.00 + tax and the latter one costs $247.00 + tax.

I buy the latter, better value. They call it a “one and done”…lol!

Are there edibles that taste okay (not like weed)?  I smoked briefly for a year and have never tried edibles.   Smoking was hit or miss:  half the time it did nothing,  a quarter of the time in enhanced a red wine buzz.  A quarter of the time it made me wicked anxious.

Also,  related to previous threads, did Mneso (spelling?) declare a hiatus or just stop commenting?  I liked her contributions.

The edibles are pretty darned good now. Brands like Smokeez (100 mg. THC per pkg, 10 pieces at 10mg. per piece in 2 oz total weight), IOW lotsa candy and a bit of good stuff. The ones I like are called Drops and they are 100 mg. THC total in two pieces of candy weighing a bit under 1/2 oz. total weight.

Smokeez taste like candy are and are good for those who are sensitive to dosing. Drops also taste good but you can taste the good stuff in the background. They are still damned good as the strains they use vary with the flavors and the pairings play well together for overall taste. Drops are good for those of us who feel the need for weed and are looking for an elephant-level dose.

I eat a 50 before bed and another one in the middle of the night when nature calls. It really helps my sleep and reduces pain flareups while resting.

      @PIGL:

I’ve never noticed the difference between indica and sativa in the candies, just in smoking them. The difference there is that the indica is far more powerful than most sativas. I’ve been enjoying the green since 1971 (when it was four-finger bags of green shit). The sativa years were much better but the good times came when indica hit our shores.

I quit smoking it about 10 years ago, changing to vaping (w/ a bong and a pen) which works great for me.

If it tastes good then I like it! :)

Your mouth will feel like there is a film on if you chew or dissolve the candy in your mouth. The feeling will go away real quick, usually less than 10 minutes. It’s almost a squeaky feeling of sorts, not bad at all though.

Yes, dental work could be a problem but they do completely dissolve on their own so it would probably clear up real quick. Our dispensary has all kinds of candy, cookies, sodas, drinks and such with the good stuff in it.

OT? I have 2 questions about giant tech corps. (Another ?, do I need another period to end that last sentence? Could actually use a grammar police person here). (And that period too)

First, is there a way that I’m missing to get notifications of replies to my comments here, or do I need to just look at the dead threads, where I’m usually catching up to the end of the dead thread?

Second. I’ve been writing pithy little movie/tv reviews on shitty ass FB for a few years now. I’m trying to go back and copy the text out of those posts. Unsurprisingly FB is making it difficult to navigate the past. I can’t seem to find a way to just go back to 2015 and see my timeline as it was. Can’t even go back and see 2020 as I posted it. Am I wrong in thinking that the proposed FB/Meta/Fuckallwhatevertheircalling it+ is going to be charging you to look at your own FB timeline history?

      Any help is much appreciated.

So I see that Scott Adams has set his career on fire and burned it to the ground, all to have the “satisfaction” of saying incredibly hateful, racist things about black people. Don’t the MAGA’s get mad when someone says all white people are racist? Why would one of them think it was ok to say that about black people? Or to promote segregation? Do any of them ever think there will be consequences for what they say? Sounds like zero papers or websites will be carrying his strip by Monday.  Cue the whining about “cancellation” in 5..4..3..2..1….

I’m not a Twit/FB user, but my understanding is that the EU’s data-privacy and -ownership laws forced these companies to provide an interface allowing you to “export” all your data — a giant zipfile/tarball most likely — from their system.  Perhaps it might be worth looking for that?  It’d be an ugly mess, but at least, you’d have it all, and with some scripting/programming you might be able to extract what you want from that.

I could be 100% wrong about this though.

I’m surprised at the reaction to country music here.

Country music is roots music, a drum, a string, a voice.

A tale, a sound, an echo, in dells and hollows from the stamp of the feet.

      And the hammer.

Good country music is like all good roots music — it’s hungry.

Insistent, relentless, tasty, bitter, and you know when you’ve reached the good parts.

@🐾BillinGlendaleCA: 25 years ago when I lived in Marin County it snowed briefly, perhaps an inch, and every little kid around me was out with a camera, recording the amazing event.

ETA NE Ohio. Now we pine for snow. Dealing with winter snow used to be part of who we were, and now nothing. February now and we have April plants blooming.

I don’t know what to do about my garden. I would hate to be a farmer, or a bird deciding when to migrate. I just saw a robin in my yard last night? Are the worms thawed yet?

@sab: I’ve lived in Glendale for 35 years, this is only the second time I’ve seen snow on the Verdugos.  Folk at work said there was measurable snow in the Crescenta Valley(on the other side of the Verdugos from downtown Glendale).

@Odie Hugh Manatee: when the ever-dwindling number of rightwing friends on Facebook whine about “Cancel Culture” I just tell them they misspelled “Capitalism”. Businesses are just chasing dollars like they always have, and now nonwhite and LGBTQ+ dollars are worth more than white dollars, or at least come at a lower maintenance cost. It’s the real reason Bocephus, Limbaugh, and now Adams got the brush. I usually sign off with a full-throated GOD BLESS CAPITALISM! because angry conservative tears really are a tonic.

@Odie Hugh Manatee: OT I have a grand-daughter seriously on the spectrum. She is nine and mostly happy.

Your information is hugely important for parents coming along dealing with this. And also for those who are not dealing with adapting in a hostile environment.

My locally grocery is committed to hiring on spectrum employees. They are obvious. Very friendly and helpful if you don’t demand eye contact. Seems acceptable and normal to me. Some of the cashiers have issues but management does not care that you have problems with the polite weird kid.

Family dealing with my grand-daughter (she is a delight, so not much dealing) we have discovered that others of us are on the spectrum. Well duh. How did you never notice?

@West of the Rockies: In my misspent youth I did most of the cooking for the guys I shared a house with. One of the ways we stretched our dope budget was with magic curries: take all the seeds and stems you’d usually toss, fry them in oil for a few minutes, then filter the oil and use it to make the curry of your choice (I tended to make vindaloo). Tasted like curry, trashed you like reefer, since the oil absorbed that lovely THC.

Ohio Republican just died at 46. Very sad, except that a few years back he chased his wife around their house with a gun until she called police because she was so scared. Then she divorced him. This is who he was. Now he is dead.

I’m surprised at the reaction to country music here.

Country music is roots music, a drum, a string, a voice.

A tale, a sound, an echo, in dells and hollows from the stamp of the feet.

Maybe that’s what it once was, and maybe it’s still like that in some out-of-the-way corners of our media world.

But these days, when I hear a random country song over a store’s sound system or wherever, it’s a song about being ‘country’. It’s gone meta, it’s swallowed its own tail.

The rock n’ roll equivalent would be a station that only played songs like “The heart of rock n’ roll is still beating” and “R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.” and other self-referential stuff.

The Country music post was interesting to me because I don’t know the genre at all. Not a thing in the UK, you’d get the odd thing in the UK pop charts, most of which I hated ( the Twang! )I knew nothing on the playlist, so I’m going to go through it and at the end I may or may not like some or none of it but at least I gave it a fair try.

I’m pretty much a dinosaur musically having been living in a cave since about 1990 and I was never that into the ‘pop’ side of it anyway.

So now to crash my truck, get bitten by my dog, spill my beer, watch my woman walk away, and step in a cow pat. All with extra twang

ETA I think I have to get my hat out of jail as well, or something

Has the edit window always been 15 minutes? I don’t remember it being that long.

I think it was 5 minutes, so it’s great if it’s been upped to 15. I wouldn’t have minded 5 so much if it recognized activity and didn’t cut someone off in the middle of an edit.

ETA: I see it’s still 5 min, but the time resets each time you edit.

Does the US have an exit strategy for Ukraine?

First off we aren’t actually in Ukraine, like we were with the wars that were mentioned.

Setting that detail aside for the moment, the US strategy is for Ukraine to WIN.

Exit strategies are for when you don’t win, and can’t win.

      We are so not there.

Are there edibles that taste okay (not like weed)?

Last time we were in Denver, en route to Pueblo for friends’ 40th anniversary, we tried chocolate truffle edibles. Two of them made for a slightly giggley high, then our last day, returning the rental to the airport desert we had 6 left, did three each just before hitting Hertz, was the best flight ever into Atlanta, even the late night connection back to WV was nice.

Tasted like chocolate truffles with a great buzz. I used to smoke a lot, just tapered off 20 years ago or so. But edibles appear to be great.

re: the claim the Ukraine war isn’t real, Jordan Klepper of the Daily Show went to Trump’s first campaign rally in South Carolina a few weeks ago. He talked to a woman who believes the war is a fake because she never sees any footage on the news. When asked, she responded that her primary news source is NewsMax. Klepper responds that he recently went to Hungary (for another piece) and met a bunch of refugees. She thinks they are all crisis actors. The clip is on YouTube, start at 4:20 for this intellectual giant.

This has to be a coordinated point on the right, not just something a rando on Twitter came up with.

When I lived in Gahanna, OH we got a Giant Eagle market (good stuff, great organic section right when you walked in the door, much better selection, pricing and service than Meijer’s across the street. Even had a gas station which if you swiped your store card, gave you a discount. ANYWAY. The majority of the baggers were teens on spectrum. Far better than “normal” teens, they were happy, good at bagging, attentive, and actually knew how to act like humans, something that a lot of teens seem to never learn. It made the place a better store. Made grocery shopping a far better experience.

When I was in the service in Scotland, Thursdays were “big hat night” at the Enlisted Men’s Club, the only time headgear could be worn inside. The local bands had normal Scottish accents until they sang, and said “Thenk yew!” with a fake Southern drawl. Not that I stuck around.
