Maxwell had his visit to the vet today, and as a reminder, this is what the vet is used to from me when I bring in a cat:
Oviously I was concerned I was going to scar the vet and vet techs with a new feral panther, and man were my fears justified:
He was an absolute gentleman, and they all adored him. He weighs in at 16.6 lbs, his fourth birthday will be in May, he is now up to date on his shots, his chip is registered and showing up, and he had his nails trimmed.
Such a good boy.
Ohio Mom
That feeling when your memory is jogged and you remember something you didn’t even realize you had forgotten. How fuzzy Cole’s photographs used to be.
Glad to hear Maxwell is settling in.

And how is he getting along with Thurston today?

Any doctor of any sort has experienced good patients and bad patients.
The black cat in this post looks like a very good patient, who would apologize to the vet for wasting their time.
The white cat is apparently being restrained like a feline Hannibal Lector.
rikyrah
Awe, he looks so sweet🤗
Suzanne
He seems like such a lovey.
Elizabelle
Tunch! In a hostage situation.
Sure Lurkalot
A gorgeous good boy.
ronno2018
congrats on being a great human and taking care of that dude!
FastEdD
I’ve had a rotten day, and it makes me so happy to hear good news about your good boy. Critters bring us such strength.
MomSense
Of course he was a gentleman at the Vet. He’s majoring in medicine.
different-church-lady
Wait, 16.6 pounds? THAT IS A PANTHER!
different-church-lady
@MomSense: John should not turn his back on the boy.
Amir Khalid
Good to hear that Max is well behaved at the vet’s.
I have spent the past few days being reminded that the intrepid Agent Scully is younger, bigger, stronger, and more fearless than Bianca. Bianca was a skinny ladylike little thing all her life. Agent Scully (she really needs that title to go with her name) has been jumping to the top of the wardrobe and knocking my gig bags to the floor.
zhena gogolia
@different-church-lady: Yeah, pretty hefty! But he looks good, must have big bones.
Ella in New Mexico
Such a handsome boy, just gorgeous.

Our last big cat was pushing 20 pounds. Was a sweet boy, sat at the dinner table waiting for a taste of the meaty course we were eating. Not much, just a taste, he knew his serving was coming in just a little bit.
A white tom cat with red spots, named Rufus for just those spots… like a bird with a red spot somewhere on them. Used to sneak into bed with me and lie against my forehead, so soft and gentle he didn’t wake me up. I still miss him today.

A picture of Tunch! You’d tell us Tunch wasn’t really as gnarly and mean as you made him out to be, and then you’d post photos like that one, and we’d all go “uh huh; sure.”
Good on Maxwell for being a perfect gentleman. I’m glad his inaugural visit to the vet wasn’t traumatic for anyone.
Jackie
@different-church-lady: John posted a photo of Max and Steve the other day and Max looked like a kitten compared to the giant Steve.
How much does Steve weigh???
Amir Khalid
@Jackie:
Steve must be the size of a bobcat, at least.

❤Tunch
esp the back legs

Black cats are the BEST!

All I can see is the inverted colon/rectum graphic, do you not know how to crop?
Lovely top 1/2 of pic, and thanks for sharing.
Virginia
A very handsome kitty.

Ok, someone is going to have to explain Everything Everywhere All At Once to me. My review before giving up? They all got Fleetwood Mac (Rumours era) level high and said “roll camera”, followed by splicing it out of order in homage to Quentin Tarantino.
Seriously, WTF?

Tunch!!! The reason I stuck out lurking on this here joint since Pajama Media days. Well, Mr. Cole seemed like a reasonable sort even if the opposite of me politically back then. My new, used cat had his follow up vet visit today. It’s nice when you know it’s not going to be a wrasslin’ match complete with the possibility of real injuries.
Obvious Russian Troll
The picture of Tunch reminds me of my cat Mothra. He’s really mellow and good around people. I mean, unless they try to pick him up. Our vet requested we sedate him before his next visit; we’re thinking about a new vet (or bringing in a mobile vet).
Our other cat, Pooka, was feral and missed out on some key cat socialization growing up. She can be a ball of teeth and claws, but we can pick her up all day long. As long as the claws aren’t out, anyway.
catclub
as we said about our kitty, she’s just lard/large boned.

Here’s a tail of two dogs getting walked for the 3rd time before the most current atmospheric river convinces Chet the weinie dog that he’ll melt in the rainy weather. Wish us luck.

That picture of Tunch always reminds me of the Iran hostage crises – lol.
Max is a good boy – I wish my cats were as nice. :P

A calm cat at the vet is good news for all concerned (or not concerned at all, judging from the expression on Max). Our Scottish Fold, Morty cat is a doll at the vet’s but I still assist. The vet accepts my assistance in holding Stewie cat because there will be a fight/blood/bondage if I don’t. Stewie has growled a bit when the needle goes in for his shots but he has been good for the last 11 years. Chuckie is the new kid and his second visit is coming up. The first was neutering so I expect some possible issues on his return.
Max is a handsome guy!
Frankie T.
Maxwell sounds like he’s doing a fine job representing for black cats everywhere. My black cat always charmed the folks at the vet’s office (and everybody else too). Congrats on being adopted by a (not so) mini panther!

I’m in love with Max. Glad to see he’s such a good boy at the vet.
Tat Tunch pic made me LOL. First time since that terrible day that I didn’t feel sad and just took joy in how he was such a character.
I think I want a black cat the next time I get one (or it gets me, more likely).
Jackie
@Odie Hugh Manatee: My cat Cinder was a petite squatty body who weighed maybe eight pounds at her heaviest. The vet had to wrap her in the tiniest muzzle available, then quickly trim her claws before doing ANYTHING. The growls she emitted through the muzzle…!!!
Other than that, she was the sweetest cat ever! Lol
Manyakitty
@Amir Khalid: love her! She sounds fabulous 😻😻😻😻 so happy for you both!
Happy kitty news is the best news.
Manyakitty
Also, too, OMG TUNCH! 😍😻
Maxwell looks sleek and magnificent. 😻
Princess
If Maxwell is 16.6 lb, I guess Tunch must have been 25lb.

When I take Pablo to the vet I think he enjoys having the hands of three ladies handling him!
Well, kind of enjoys it. He never complains and takes everything in stride.

@Jackie:
I had one of those small but nasty little kitties some years ago. She was a Manx that was feral and caught at about six months of age. She was about two pounds when we got her and was 4 1/2 pounds full grown. Nasty mean if she was pissed off. Vet had no choice but to restrain her and girl did she growl and howl.
I was the one who tamed her (took about a year) and she was my baby girl for the rest of her life. Having her on your lap was like sitting with a bottle of nitro but she never went off…lol
Jay
Lil Bit, (27 lbs) always promised to kill me in horrible ways. It was always my job to hold her. She never did.
She was fine at the vets except for one time. The vet was weighing her, and called her fat. She jumped off the scale, landed on the floor, pushed the fridge out of the way and hid behind it.
She wouldn’t come out until he aplologized.

@Elizabelle: My thought exactly. I had to explain it to my daughter.
Sister Golden Bear
@Dangerman:
You need to do so too while watching it. /s

It was the furrier of times (Maxwell). It was the furriest (Is this even a cat?!) (Steve) of times.
mrmoshpotato
@MomSense: Well done!

Those eyes!!
Such a handsome beast! (And he knows it!)
With her 11-month b day coming up on the 19th, we figured it was time to take Miss Jessica Bonkers in for The Operation- so Friday noon I booked her at the vet. Of course, Friday evening she went into heat, and has been regaling us with an amazing chorus of pathetic noises ever since (Jessie’s normal ‘meow’ is a sort of high-pitched peep: heat-singing is really giving her little pipes a workout).
We’ve also been contemplating getting her a new little bro/sis: we were thinking of a black kitty: those pics of Maxwell may just have convinced us…. 🐈⬛
Major Major Major Major
What a handsome gentleman!
Over here, Samwise and Momo are getting along a bit better. She’s so small but so much bigger than when we got her! Will write it all up this week.

@Dangerman:
EEAAO is a movie of 2 parts. The first part sets you up to think that this is a movie about the Chosen one fighting evil. The second shows that fighting evil doesn’t necessarily mean combat, but showing kindness and respect to others.
danielx
Tunch the Ferocious, in a kitty straitjacket no less.
Maxwell: four years old and 16.6 lbs? Using Boris as a yardstick (which he is, damn near), that would make Max the Merciless – er, Munificent! – one big muscular guy.
Canadian Shield
I loved EEAAO. In the first 10 minutes or so I remember thinking “I hate this movie.” But the actors performance really pulled me into it. It then changes pace into a more linear immigrant family drama dressed in Sci-Fi / Hong Kong movie clothing and sprinkled with Pythonesque silliness. I think the amazing cast really delivers the goods as a life-line for viewers that aren’t in the filmmakers generation (didn’t grow up in this fast and mashed up genre/internet landscape). I went from not getting it to loving it as it unfolded. I recommend watching it and sticking with it through the angry confusion you might feel in the beginning (as I did). YMMV

Cole, you passed up “A Tale of Two Kitties”? Shame on you!

My (sadly deceased) cat Max would freak out at the vet. We nicknamed it “puma mode”. He wanted to bite and claw everyone. We tried bringing the vet to our house. I put Max in the master bathroom, plenty of room. The vet and the assistant came in. Max walked up to the vet, headbutted him, and I’m thinking “this will work”. Then Max started walking over to the assistant, got within 3 feet, stopped and hissed. Max then turned around and launch a full blown assult on the vet with (declawed front) paws flailing. I grabbed him, taking a bite for my trouble, while the vets vacated the room. Eventually I had to trick Max into the carrier, they used the rabies pole to get him out of the carrier, and had to sedate him. I avoided taking him to the vet unless absolutely necessary because it was so traumatic – for both of us.

I still tear up remembering Tunch. That cat had some serious presence.
Gemina13
So good to see a picture of Tunch again.
And I’m not surprised that Maxwell was a perfect little gentleman at the vet’s. I’ve never met a black cat that wasn’t an utter sweetheart with people. My tuxie boy, Lucky, charmed every vet he had with his calm, friendly demeanor, even at the end.
The only hellion I ever had was Precious, my peach tortie, who so terrorized her first vet that they asked me not to bring her back after the tech had to don rawhide gauntlets just to give her shots. (I didn’t blame them, and made sure to keep her as calm as I could when introducing her to a new vet – catnip helped.)
