But… y’see… live updates!
… American First Policy Institute, a dark money nonprofit run by Trump administration alumni that pushes his policies, is prepping a response once an indictment is announced, according to Marc Lotter, a spokesman for the organization…
The America First Policy Institute raised over $14 million in 2021 and had $3.8 million in total assets, according to its financial report. The organization doesn’t publicly disclose their donors.
The Manhattan Republican Party is also preparing its own response to Bragg if such an indictment comes to pass, according to Andrea Catsimatidis, the chair of the county committee.
Catsimatidis, daughter of New York billionaire John Catsimatidis, has already ripped Bragg for wanting to “arrest of Donald Trump.”
(Sidebar, per Wikipedia: The New York Times reported in October 2020 that Catsimatidis and his family run the Manhattan Republican Party; his daughter Andrea is the chairwoman, and Catsimatidis, his wife Margo Catsimatidis, and his son John Catsimatidis Jr. are vice-presidents.[53] Between February and July 2020, Catsimatidis contributed $50,000 of the party’s $52,000 of income…)
It's not up to House Republicans to review Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg's conduct. It's up to Manhattan voters. If Trump is indicted, a jury will decide whether there's sufficient evidence to convict.
The GOP continues to undercut our democratic institutions to serve Trump.

I find it surprising but all the top Trumpers are demanding Trump be indicted for better crimes like election tampering and racketeering. I would say stay strong. Your prayers will be answered. https://t.co/C6P5fRPvUL

Dispatch from a dismal, pathetic pro-Trump rally organized by the New York Young Republicans Club as ex-prez's arrest looms.

The online far right and militia movement are both fundamentally more excited about and likely to harangue people outside drag shows than to organize for Donald Trump right now.
Anti-trans rhetoric is where the energy of the far-right is at this moment.

What's different this time is most of the ringleader foot soldiers that actually got the others together for Jan 6 are either on trial or in prison now. The proud boys and oath keepers are effectively out of the equation. The other magas are no more than cosplay. Womp womp
— CosmicBreeze12357 (@breeze12357) March 18, 2023
I'm not particularly worried about a Jan 6 moment at the new york courthouse tbh. Maga is low energy these days, most of his most dedicated soldiers are in jail, and the rest are too stupid to find parking in Manhattan.

The chances of the Crimes President going to jail are absolutely miniscule. However, for the first time in my life, they are probably not zero. That's worth enjoying, especially as he spirals down into worse and worse lawyers

arresting donald trump is a slippery slope. a slippery slope to more hilarious shit that rules

for the law and order crowd that seems to have an endless appetite for unarmed black men being gunned down at traffic stops, parking lots and fast food drive-ins because they weren’t compliant enough or perhaps too black…yet…. it’s funny how defrauding the American public itself by using campaign funds to pay off porn stars to keep their secrets is somehow now “not illegal enough” to warrant prosecution. Especially so when Impeachment was the letter of the day during the Clinton years for what was claimed to be a consensual hummer making the officeholder a supposed national security risk.
with so much crime to choose from, I really don’t have a preference as to which goes first, just as long as one does cross the threshold, I suspect others will follow.

I think a few of the loudest barkers may be some who think, “Now just wait a minute, you can get arrested for paying money to make bad news go away? I mean, it’s election related, and that’s what election funds are for, right?”

I’m really tired of living in interesting times. My dog is snoring, loudly, next to me, and I am so jealous.

Donald should probably turn himself in in drag to ensure a good turnout.

Shame the name Pussy Galore is already spoken for.

So, a grifting operation.
Also, please accept my ‘I told you so’ about the difference between the GOP at all levels telling a pollster that Trump is a god and actually caring about him anymore.

I get the feeling that the right-wingers want to co-opt the MAGA voters the same way Trump co-opted the Southern Strategy voters – because nobody in the 21st-century GOP has a chance without them. But as long as Trump is still alive and kicking, it isn’t safe for a DeSantis or an Abbott to claim that Trump would have endorsed what they’re doing, because Trump isn’t safely in his grave and still has a megaphone (which is even bigger now that his social-media bans have been lifted) with which to tell the MAGA voters to stick it to the pretenders.
They want to do to Trump what they did to Martin Luther King, and put words in his mouth to claim he would have supported what they’re doing. And may any gods out there forgive me for making even that comparison between MLK and TFG.
p.a.
The prion disease took root, and the Republican Party decided that 21st century success hinged on them presenting themselves as Dana Carvey’s SNL Church Lady character. While eventually taking as their leader a degenerate. 🤔
Matt McIrvin
The complaint that they got Trump for his most chickenshit crime is very much of a piece with Trump’s own weird line of complaint about how they got Al Capone for tax evasion.

JD Vance couldn’t pick George Soros out of lineup. He probably can’t tell you anything about Soros, except that he’s Jewish and his name riles up the rubes

I’m waiting for the “just a process crime” defence.
Soon to be followed by the classic “perjury trap”

Ah, yes, the classic “You asked my client a question knowing he would lie.” For some reason it’s taken seriously by people who would instantly reject “You put your goods on the shelf knowing my client would shoplift them.”

When I read this:
I hate to agree with a shiftless Know-Nothing like J D Vance [ who is a shiftless Appalachian emigre who grew up in Cincinnati IIRC ] but there is a large group attempting to turn America into a Third World nation.
He’s just wrong about the identity of that group — it’s the Republican aka Christo-Fascist Party… not the liberal Democrats.
azlib
I suspect the arrest and conviction of quite a number of Jan 6 insurrectionists has put a damper on any kind of protest when Trump is arrested.
