Looks like we need one!
Just a few conversation starters…
My not-so-secret hope is that Wray gets exposed in this deposition for the Republican hack that I think he is.
BREAKING: President Biden will NOT assert privilege to stop the depositions of Trump and Wray in the wrongful termination suits brought by Peter Strzok and Lisa Page. Thanks, @POTUS ! pic.twitter.com/5kvRyHUUbI

Can someone tell me what’s going on with this ski-gate thing?
“I was skiing, and then two skis came between my skis forcing my legs apart, and then there was a body pressing against me, and there was a very strange grunting noise.” – Gwyneth Paltrow in SKIGATE

I thought this was funny. Not the baseball bat post, but this very scientific survey. :-)
Which lawyer made Donald delete his baseball bat post on Truth Social?

There’s a civil suit against Paltrow because the person who was injured in the skiing accident said that it was her fault. The guy says she ran into him, and she says he ran into her. Who fucking knows. She’s a kook and a dim bulb, but she’s also hella rich and it wouldn’t shock me if someone was like “ooh hey a way to get money”.
craigie
@Alison Rose: His original ask was $3 million, now it’s $300K. That doesn’t suggest actual injury to me.
cmorenc
Gwaith Paltrow and Terry Sanderson, a retired optometrist, were skiing at Deer Valley, Utah and collided with one another. Sanderson sued Paltrow, alleging the accident was her fault, and Paltrow countersued alleging the accident was Sanderson’s fault. The wrongful injury trial is currently ongoing. As you may guess from the fact that Paltrow was skiing there, Deer Valley is an ultra-posh ski area catering to intermediates who like to be chic-seen, as opposed to harder-core, more challenging ski areas like Alta and Snowbird which cater more to the steep-and-deep type of skier.
Don’t know if any video of the collision exists, or on whose side any witnesses lean to.
BTW: Paltrow is completely full of shit claiming there was any sort of sexual assault involved- in ski clothes and helmets, even after a ski collision, it’s really hard to intentionally grope contact another person in the manner Paltrow is claiming.
Not dissing bona fide sexual assault victims here, but rather saying Paltrow is being a celebrity Karen here, even aside from which one of them was more responsible for the collision. This is the sort of bullshit that undermines the many bona fide groping sexual assault victims out there.
WaterGirl
@Alison Rose: I guess she thought at first that she was being sexually assaulted? I heard her testimony was lit, but I didn’t see any video.
bbleh
In all fairness, why would vindictive and nakedly political efforts to injure or destroy the lives and careers of federal law enforcement officers who were doing their jobs investigating nearly unprecedented corruption of and by high-ranking officials be properly subject to executive privilege?
WaterGirl
@Alison Rose: @craigie: @cmorenc:
Thank you for the info! I imagine that unless there were witnesses or there was video, it would be really hard to determine who was at fault.
Unless someone was being a total hotrod jackass on the slopes.
I wonder if anyone was seriously hurt.
MisterDancer
I rarely say this, but I’d love to be a bug on the wall for that Wray depo. Not just for the words, but for the look on his face.
I don’t talk shit about Wray because I couldn’t see a way to bring anything to light, and we have a lot of fish to fry. Getting him under oath on this is an unexpected joy.
WaterGirl
@bbleh: I believe that one of the podcast hosts joked that they have abused the concept of executive privilege so badly that she thinks her cat probably has executive privilege.

Also, hey jackals – it’s been a minute. Still grinding much, eating badly and sleeping too little. Storms came through, only thing I lost was sleep. Too far behind on threads to catch up, hope everyone is well.

OT…the spousal unit has taken kiddo out for a daddy/daughter dinner, so mommy (moi) is enjoying a nice, cold Manhattan with her meal and waiting for fresh baked chocolate chip cookies to come out of the oven. It’s the little things in life.
Alison Rose
@cmorenc: I don’t know if she said that it was definitely a sexual assault, but rather that she was worried it was. And that is a valid worry for any woman to have when a man comes into physical contact with you.
WaterGirl
@MisterDancer: Yeah, I wouldn’t trust Wray as far as I could throw him. He managed to keep his fingers off of everything.
But hopefully that will change now. Agree, this is a happy surprise!
WaterGirl
@mali muso: That sounds lovely.
Alison Rose
@WaterGirl: Yes, the guy did suffer some severe injuries. There isn’t video, I don’t think, but instructors did come over immediately. Don’t know if they actually saw it happen.

So, I know Trump THINKS “I deleted it!” is a defense, but it’s not, right? Like, his last or nearly last tweet on Jan. 6 was “Well, this is what happens,” and, like, that counts, right?

@BenCisco 🇺🇸🎖️🖥️♦️: Good to hear that you are ok after those storms rolled through!
WaterGirl
@cmorenc: I think that was her first reaction as she tried to make sense of what was happening.
cmorenc
@Alison Rose:
I’m very familiar with skiing – been doing it for 50 years, and unlike e.g. many other social encounters e.g. at a party where casual groping type of sexual assaults can occur, it’s really doubtful this would occur intentionally in the aftermath of a ski collision, especially with Paltrow’s ski instructor immediately on the scene of the collision.
OTOH I would find it entirely believable had Paltrow been referring to some post-Oscar after-party where she claimed it happened.
BenCisco 🇺🇸🎖️🖥️♦️
@mali muso: Thanks. I was sleeping the so-called “sleep of the dead” – howling came through that I knew wasn’t the train! Gets your attention, it does…
trucmat
@cmorenc:
Paltrow was describing her reaction at the time of the collision and did not accuse the other skier of that. It was entirely relevant to the case because if she was hit from behind it establishes she was the downhill skier who had right of way. And Karen is just bullshit. You may not like her but you are out of line.

@BenCisco 🇺🇸🎖️🖥️♦️: Captain on the bridge!
Alison Rose
@cmorenc: Okay, but we don’t know what she’s been through in her life, and sometimes trauma can show up throughout your life as an exaggerated response, so that in a case where it might seem obvious that the person doesn’t mean you harm, your subconscious will still go into fight-or-flight mode as a result of physical contact. It could be something as simple as a man lightly touching your arm to try to pass by you in a crowded corridor or something. It’s not about a rational response, so saying “there’s no way someone could logically think a skier running into them was an attempt at groping” is neither here nor there
Also, I find your comments about “bona fide sexual assault victims” to be pretty disgusting. Who deemed you the one who gets to decide who is a “real” victim or not? Should those of us who have experienced such things lay out the details so you can determine if we are “bona fide victims” or not? Fucking check yourself, please.

I hopePeter Strzok and Lisa Page make bank.
Don’t care about the private civil suit.
WaterGirl
@cmorenc:
I don’t want us to spread rumors here. I do know that she DID NOT SAY IT WAS A SEXUAL ASSAULT, just that’s what she thought was happening at first when she was trying to make sense of what was happening.
I think I explained on BJ once before how totally disoriented I was when the “shatterproof” glass on the front of my oven shattered without even being touched and it appeared to be raining glass in my kitchen and in those first moments I could not make sense of what happened.
I suspect that the “sexual assault” was her version of “raining glass in the kitchen” as she tried to make sense of what happened.
WaterGirl
@Baud: They they got screwed, as did Andrew McCabe. I don’t know if McCabe filed a lawsuit or not, but at least he got his pension.

One interesting factoid about the Paltrow-Sanderson collision that has to do with where the skier collision occurred rather than who was at fault – it happened on a very easy green (beginner-class) run called “Bandana“. That type of run counter-intuitively can be where you are at more potential risk of a collision with another skier than on more advanced-level runs. People are more likely to be skiing distractedly on such runs, or skiing in an unpredictable manner, and there are parents skiing with their kids and focused on the kids. More advanced skiers who happen to be on that run can lapse into complacency and go too fast to safely account for slower-moving (often lower-ability) skiers on the run, perhaps because they are using the green run as the quickest, most efficient connector to a more advanced area of the ski area.

Considering the lives he ruined w/ his “China Initiative”, seeing Wray squirm under scrutiny would be poetic justice, & it would still be orders of magnitude less that what he put those Chinese & Chinese American academics/scientists through.
