It’s postcard writing and music sharing time.
Music peeps, please share your links in the comments!
If anyone else has postcard photos they want to share, please send me your pics.
Last date to mail postcards is tomorrow – Tuesday, March 28. If you live in Wisconsin or a neighboring state, you get one extra day.
I’m gonna add a link to the singer / songwriter playlist from Saturday in case anyone missed it.
Open thread!

Some music to get the heart flowing and feet moving:
Deee-Lite: Groove is in the Heart
Rusted Root: Ecstasy
Fluke: Amp
delphinium
@BlueGuitarist: That is awesome-here’s hoping that most voters feel the same and elect Janet!
brendancalling
Hope y’all enjoy the Daniel Johnston!
delphinium
And here’s some more mellow tunes:
Pete Yorn: Calm Down
William Orbit: Adagio for Strings
Moby: First Cool Hive and Into the Blue
WaterGirl
@BlueGuitarist: Thanks for that! Mousebumples sent me the same article, so I thought I would add the link here, but you beat me to it.
WaterGirl
@WaterGirl: The money quote from that article.
kalakal
Kudos to all the postcard writers.
A couple of tunes by singer/songwriters to hopefully help you along
Carol King – Tapestry
Cheryl Wheeler – Driving Home
WaterGirl
@delphinium: That article ought to leave a mark!
I am very invested in Judge Janet P. winning this thing!
WaterGirl
@kalakal: I have never heard of Cheryl Wheeler. What a lovely voice!
delphinium
@WaterGirl: Damn straight-telling it like it is! : )

Reading the WaPo to do some research on the ‘Real Time’ reporting of the Battle of France 1940 and ran across ….
“When things get too thick around this capital, I like to read a weekly paper from a small town in Ohio.”
— Harlan Miller, 05/13/40
The Sameness … the sameness….
BlueGuitarist
@brendancalling:
so many fabulous songs on your playlist; as before!
Mousebumples
Late to the thread, but I’m here! Hoping to get a final 30 done and in the mail before we leave town for a few days.
We’re dropping off our ballots before we leave too. Could mail, but… I don’t trust DeJoy. 😒

@delphinium:
groove is in the heart is groovy!
delphinium
Some ambient music, Tangerine Dream: Love on a Real Train
And something a bit trippy: The Starseeds: Timequakes
delphinium
@Mousebumples: That is so great-enjoy your time out of town! And thanks so much for encouraging us to write postcards. Will be getting a bunch more postcards so can write again for the next election coming up.
WaterGirl
@delphinium: Calm Down was nice!
Mousebumples
@delphinium: Awesome! I’m glad to share my GOTV-From-Home advocacy!
I don’t know what’s next, but I’ll try to have (hopefully) something to look forward to postcarding for, for Election Day on April 4. I don’t think there are plans for a thread tomorrow or Saturday – though I’ll defer to WaterGirl. Could still do a music thread, if there’s interest? 🤷♀️

A couple of old favourites
The Waterboys – The Whole of the Moon
Nils Lofgren – Moon Tears
mvr
We sent off our last packet (of ten) more this morning – for the Fox Point area where we also wrote in the name of a Senate candidate.
Thank you for organizing this!

@mvr:
yay!
Each voter there can cast 2 votes to replace Rs with Democrats who can be crucial votes if elected.
WaterGirl
@mvr: Great job!
Mousebumples
@mvr: Great work! 🤩
BeautifulPlumage
Mailed off the ones I did Sat. I’m skipping tonight but will get in on the next election.
Marie is still under the bed, which is where she went when new people showed up. She is eating & using the litter box. I’m working on projects in the room and occasionally singer to her (What’s Up Pussycat, meooowww meow-meow).
WaterGirl
@kalakal: With all the coffee boys in the former guy’s life, there should be a group called the CoffeeBoys.
WaterGirl
@BeautifulPlumage: I was hoping we could get an update on Marie.
Is she meowing back at you? Or do you include the meowing in your singing?
I like to sing to Mr. Bear sometimes. Oh-oh black kitty, bam ba lam, oh-oh black kitty bam ba lam, black kitty has a toy, bam ba lam…
kalakal
@WaterGirl: Ha!
For TFG I can only hope that this becomes his song
The Clash I fought the law
Being in a Clash mood – Rock the Casbah and London Calling
WaterGirl
@kalakal: Ha! I will have to remember to use that song in a post when (hopefully) Trump is indicted.
There must be other songs in the same vein, but I can’t think of any right now.
Mousebumples
@BeautifulPlumage: Thanks for writing with us!
Xavier
Here’s one that popped up today, “Buck and Merle” by the late Don Walser. I was struck by the sheer joy that Mr. Walser sings (and yodels) with in this song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hzf5i-J_hc
WaterGirl
@BeautifulPlumage: I was so excited at the Marie update that I forgot to thank you for the postcard action!
mvr
@kalakal: Good songs. But usually I take the singer’s perspective on “I fought the law”. (I once sang it out loud when I took out a good bit of my oversized driveway with a sledgehammer.) It would be a shame to ruin it by making that Trump’s perspective.
Omnes Omnibus
@kalakal: One of my favorites, Junco Partner.
Narya
Thanks to the excellent example you’ve all set, I did 20 postcards today and took ‘’em to the post office! I also voted for mayor. Vegging out tonight though…
NotMax
J. S. Bach, Gigue Fugue
Nino Rota, Danze del Gattopardo, Mazurka, Galop.
Louis Moreau Gottschalk, Tournament Galop.
Joaquín Turina, Rapsodia sinfonica.
Noel Mewton-Wood, Theme from Chance of a Lifetime.
Miguel del Águila, Conga-Line in Hell.
Philip Glass, The Photographer: A Gentlemen’s Honor
WaterGirl
@Narya: Every postcard helps!
On the April 4 election night post, I will have the stats for how many postcards were sent with the Voces addresses.
It’s definitely enough to make a difference, especially in a close race.
Someone who worked to overturn election results has no business being a judge at all, let alone on the Supreme Court of a state.
WaterGirl
I am about to close up shop for the night. Big thanks to all the postcard writers and music peeps!
kalakal
@mvr: Hmm, never thought of it that way
@WaterGirl: Now you’ve got me thinking
@Omnes Omnibus: nice
The most fun band I’ve ever seen live
Madness – One Step Beyond
Mousebumples
@Narya: Thanks for joining us!
I’m just about done for the night, too, but hoping our efforts made a difference!
prostratedragon
Kicking back: “Lujon,” Henry Mancini.
TheTruffle
I’m writing letters to Wisconsin. Please remind me that this GOTV shit is going to have some impact. I’m feeling pretty disheartened about this country and its people right now.
WaterGirl
@TheTruffle: What research there is shows that postcards can have a real impact on election turnout.
The addresses from Voces are for folks with an 80-100% pattern of Democratic voting, so if we turn them out, the odds of them voting Democratic are seriously in our favor.
Plus we try to make the case for the candidates we want them to vote for.
If you are writing postcards, you are making a difference.
In a previous WI supreme court race, the Republican won by only one half of a percentage point!
So keep doing your part, and have heart!
TheTruffle
@WaterGirl: Good. I’ve been feeling down about the state of this country. As in: I’m thinking either the fascists get thrown out in election after election, or this country breaks apart into red and blue America. And to be honest, the GQP is talking about a national divorce.
Groucho48
Here are a couple of my favorite music videos when I just want to sit back and be happy.
https://youtu.be/r33MTOTZAM0

kalakal
@Groucho48: That version of Brandenburg No. 2 is sublime
Yutsano
Oh sweet! I hope I’m not repeating information here, but Brian Tyler Cohen just did an interview with Judge Janet and it’s excellent!
EDIT: I’m not! It’s really a great interview.
Groucho48
@kalakal: I listen to it probably at least once a week.
NotMax
@Groucho48
If for some reason YouTube engages in the scandalous behavior of removing it could that be labeled Brandenburggate?
