Just wondering if anyone might be up for a Balloon Juice zoom on Saturday to celebrate Indictment Week.

Saturday evening, maybe 7 pm Eastern.

Zoom is on for Saturday evening at 7 pm Eastern.

I have sent zoom links to everyone who sent me email to RSVP.  I have even sent them to the 7 people who RSVP’d in the comments made me look up your email addresses :-) so I could send you the zoom link.

If I missed you somehow and you didn’t receive the zoom link, please send me an email message and I’ll shoot you the zoom link right away.

    it’s totally missing the point, from a legal perspective, and for what it means for the trial. a defendant losing on summary judgment is whatever, a plaintiff WINNING on summary judgment in a DEFAMATION case against a NEWS ORG!?! that’s crazy!

    tl;dr – The Dominion case is going to trial, and a judge ruled today that Fox News is clearly lying liars who lied, so the question will be malice. Lots of the reporting on this is missing the importance of the ruling today.

    @Another Scott: That should shorten the trial and preparation considerably.  I had seen predictions that that was the only likely summary judgment to come out.  Glad to see this ruling.

    I mean, it’s obviously to any sentient being that they are fucking liars who lied.  Glad to see the judge call it like it is.

    To be 100% correct, the judge didn’t rule that Fox are liars.  He ruled that the stuff Fox said on air was A) completely false and B) either fact or opinion mixed with fact.  Saying they’re liars implies they knew what they said is false, and the judge did not rule in Dominion’s favor on that point.

    That said, it’s a big win for Dominion.  They don’t have to try to prove to a jury that what Fox said is untrue; they only have to prove the people at Fox knew it was untrue.   That seems completely possible based on what we’ve seen of the evidence.  They’ll also need to prove damages, which is where I expect Fox to put the bulk of the effort.
