Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

One of our two political parties is a cult whose leader admires Vladimir Putin.

Petty moves from a petty man.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

We’re watching the self-immolation of the leading world power on a level unprecedented in human history.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

I did not have this on my fuck 2025 bingo card.

Not all heroes wear capes.

Live so that if you miss a day of work people aren’t hoping you’re dead.

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

There are times when telling just part of the truth is effectively a lie.

Books are my comfort food!

Balloon Juice, where there is always someone who will say you’re doing it wrong.

Republicans don’t lie to be believed, they lie to be repeated.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

This blog will pay for itself.

You cannot shame the shameless.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

Click on the 2nd tweet to find your polling place.  And bring your ID!

Also – vote for Jodi in SD-8.  A win for Jodi will keep the Republicans from the 2/3 majority that would allow them impeach duly elected officials just because they are democrats.

WISCONSIN! TODAY IS THE DAY! Your vote today is more important than anything going on in New York, and will impact democracy and the balance of state and federal politics for years to come! Secure your rights! Secure fair maps! VOTE TODAY! pic.twitter.com/2DxsNLlo78

also the mayor’s race in Chicago, where as someone on twitter said it will either be the most progressive mayor the city has ever had, or the most conservative since Boss Daley. As I understand it, they’re neck and neck

I’m an observer in the Madison area. Very steady, never more than about 8 minutes from walk in to walking out. Very few same day registration but it is an option.

    rain just started here

I already voted early by mail, but have heard about short lines from friends who have voted.

@WaterGirl – are we still doing a results post tonight? If so, are we waiting until polls close at 8pm central or going with the previous 645pm central (745pm eastern or blog time).

15 in line at 0700, never less than 5 in process at any time since. Waves up to 30 at a time but still what I consider No Waiting.

@Mousebumples: That’s a good question.  I thought polls closed at 7 pm central, 8 pm eastern

I googled and it looks like 7 pm central. ??

I called Alan at Voces. He confirmed that polls close at 8 central, which is 9 Eastern, aka blog time. Chicago polls close at 7pm. But of course in both places if you’re in line, you still get to vote.

I think we’ll go with 8:00 blog time, and we’re having a playlist for the music portion, so we can chat about Wisconsin and Chicago and have an outlet for nervous energy.

So 8 pm Blog time Election Watch for Wisconsin and Chicago & Music thread.
