    Dredged up from the bowels of the am thread because I’m a salty yet, thrifty gal: The President’s decision to seek a second term benefits ME personally. This Administration has been more responsive to real people’s actual needs and kitchen table issues. I am thrilled to support the Biden Harris reelection campaign and I SEE RIGHT THROUGH YOUR MISOGYNOIR hiding in plain site, but do go on about the upside of a wide-open primary instead of continuing with a winning  administration.

    I’m keeping tabs on the “anybody but Kamala Harris” crowd because she’s worth it to me to aid and defender her.

    Open thread? OK. It’s now possible to pre-order the paperback of my new book, Glass Girl, from the publisher, Inspired Quill. They send it as soon as it’s printed, so you’ll be able to read it before its May 6 release date. They do the pre-order on their site early because they make a little more money if they don’t go through Amazon. They’re good people and I’d like to see them do well.

    So is the laundry list of problems that President Biden and that same team has knocked out in short order:

    • getting shots in arms and saving tens if not hundreds of thousands of American lives
    • getting us out of a two-decade war
    • turning around pandemic-induced inflation
    • solving supply chain issues right and left (baby formula, hello?)
    • preventing Russia’s takeover of Ukraine and dealing Putin a humiliating, ongoing loss with no loss of American life

    And on, and on, and on

    Compare that to trumpov’s plans for his second maladministration:

    • subjecting the entire federal workforce to loyalty oaths
    • supporting the GOP’s crazy push for ending reproductive rights at every level (and lying about Dems and “abortion up to/past the moment of birth”)
    • internment camps for homeless people
    • using the military on the streets of American cities

    Hopefully off topic. I am 69 and have let myself get a bit overweight in my 20 years of marriage.

    I used to spring up stairs three at a time. Even ten years ago.Now when I kneel down I have to grab something to get up, trying not to groan out loud because knees. And I am technically just a tad overweight by the BMI charts. And mostly otherwise very healthy.

    Have you seen Biden at White House events? Kneels down to talk to small children and old ladies in wheelchairs. Then he leaps to his feet. I could not do that.

    I am fine with Biden running for President again. I am too old, but he isn’t . He has great genetics and kept in shape. My husband has bad aging genetics. I have good aging genetics but I  didn’t keep in shape. My choice, bad choice. But not going to put that on Biden. Also too Jill Biden isn’t Mrs. Woodrow Wilson.

    To the thread topic: Joe Biden has turned out to be a very, very good administrator, a smart politician with pretty solid insights into what makes both Dem legislators and Repubs tick, and I think is doing a good job of guiding the party overall.

    Yeah, he’s old. If his brain is ok, and I think it is, and no one serious is even vaguely making a move at a primary, then by g*d he’s our 2024 incumbent candidate! I’d trust VP Harris to handle the role assigned all Veeps should the very unfortunate occur. That’s why we have a two-person ticket.  Misogynoir of a faction of the press and voting public noted, there’s zero chance Ol’ Joe is going to change the ticket.

    Has there ever been a President for whom the media DIDN’T speculate that, if reelected, they might just resign in their second term to give their VP a head start as President? It seems to be one of political reporters’ favorite imaginary scenarios, and it has never happened unless you count Nixon resigning in shame under threat of imminent impeachment and conviction, an entirely different context

    (see also: “Co-Presidents”, the “Unity Ticket” –to be fair, Abraham Lincoln actually did that last one and the entire nation was completely fucked as a consequence)

    Late to the thread, but anyone suggesting Biden shouldn’t run because of his age is either a Republican or a fool. Probably both. Best US President in my lifetime. If, heaven forfend, something untoward happens during his second term, he has a very competent and hard working VP.

    Everything possible should be done to boost the ticket. It’s a great ticket.
