Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Let there be snark.

Boeing: repeatedly making the case for high speed rail.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

We still have time to mess this up!

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

The Giant Orange Man Baby is having a bad day.

Bad people in a position to do bad things will do bad things because they are bad people. End of story.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

I might just take the rest of the day off and do even more nothing than usual.

Republicans cannot even be trusted with their own money.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

Just because you believe it, that does not make it true.

If you cannot answer whether trump lost the 2020 election, you are unfit for office.

Today in our ongoing national embarrassment…

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. do not touch it.”

Giving up is unforgivable.

Giving in to doom is how authoritarians win.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

Republicans: slavery is when you own me. freedom is when I own you.

Not loving this new fraud based economy.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

comic reversals were common in medieval art; in reality of course the dog would be riding a giant snail with a trained hunting rabbit. https://t.co/VO0um4ycYX

Something good?  Our new Breezair evaporative whole-house cooler is just about installed, the test run is happening as I type.  Just in time for the upcoming desert heat of western Colorado.  You know what, I’m going out on a limb so far as to say that this is GREAT news.

At a quick glance I thought this was gonna be a post about the Met Gala!

Funny pet story of the day. We had the plumbers over today to replace our toilets, and they staged everything for the upstairs bathroom in the exact spot where our house rabbit usually chills. It’s a sort of passageway between the livingroom, bedroom, and bathroom, where he can keep an eye on all the comings and goings. We usually have a cushion and a water dish for him there and he often spends part of the night there when he’s not on our bed. Anyway, the plumbers setting down all their stuff in that spot made our normally timid rabbit very territorial, and he spent the whole time trying to get underfoot of these two huge plumbers. One 4 lb bunny vs. two 250 lb. plumbers with steel toed boots. He kept running up and nipping their ankles, trying to move the cardboard boxes with the new toilets (funny), and I finally had to corner him under the couch and guard him because every few minutes he would try to sneak back and terrorize the plumbers! It was both cute and disturbing.

I made this for dinner tonight:

    https://www.delish.com/cooking/recipe-ideas/a36828012/vegetarian-chili-mac-recipe/

It’s pretty good! I followed the recipe pretty closely except that I had to sub in green chilis for the adobo ones. I’d say it could use a little something with a bit of kick, like some cayenne, but probably the adobo would’ve helped with that, too.

Tuesday, May 9th, Frontline focuses on Clarence and Ginni Thomas.

Since their ethical issues have been exposed more recently, I’m not sure if this will be all that hard-hitting.  But I will set the DVR, just in case.

CLARENCE AND GINNI THOMAS Politics, Power and the Supreme Court

As controversy erupts around Clarence and Ginni Thomas, FRONTLINE tells the inside story of their path to power. This investigation from veteran filmmaker Michael Kirk and his team traces how race, power and controversy collide in the rise of the Supreme Court justice and his wife and how the couple has reshaped American law and politics.

@Jackie: @Baud: Texas outlaws veterinarians providing care to cats who raise puppies.  Idaho passes “fugitive cat act” criminalizing any assistance to cats who raise puppies or who try to leave the state with a puppy. South Carolina bans all books in which cats and dogs appear together in a way that might suggest cohabitation.

That this sh!t practically writes itself probably is not an entirely good thing.

    Question for the wimmenfolk.

Found a cute T-shirt on Amazon would like to send for Mother’s Day but unsure about the size.

She’s 95 years old, probably down to 5’3″ by now (guessing), average weight and bust for her size. I’m thinking women’s Medium? Better too loose than too snug.
