Good Morning, Everyone 😊😊😊
japa21
MAYBE IT WILL AND MAYBE IT WON’T.

@rikyrah:
Good morning.

Holy mackerel!

@rikyrah:
Good morning.

Looking for the garden thread and wondering why it’s late, only to realize that it’s Saturday.
Such is retirement.
Baud
You’ve got the Trump computer virus.
ETA: Wait, how did you type Holy Cow?
mrmoshpotato
@japa21: MAYBE HER LAPTOP NEEDS A SUCKLE OF DR. EVIL’S ZIPPLE!

Cleaned your keyboard recently? It’s horrifying what comes out of it …

You’re not going to find what you need at a farmer’s market.
Instead, your chances are better at Whole Foods (or Trader Joe’s) where the capslock is kept in the “weird fruit” produce section.
mrmoshpotato
@Spanky: Yes! I was born tomorrow, not today.
(Enjoying parsing the madness of that sentence.)
Ivan X
Judging from the punctuation, it’s not caps locked as much as one of the shift keys is stuck. Press both shift keys a few times to hopefully shake it loose. If no go, restart, and if still no go, press them 50-100 times.
mrmoshpotato
It looks like a Shift key is stuck.
ETA – dammit, Ivan X! :)
Baud
@mrmoshpotato:
Happy early birthday!

Okay, folks. Taking into account the input in previous threads, NYC meet-up penciled in for Sunday, September 3rd from 4 p.m. until whenever at The Baylander. Open air venue. Food — Beverages.
Take the A train or the 1 train to 125th Street, then M125 bus (or can walk) west to 12th Avenue/St. Claire Place stop. From there a short hop to the Hudson River.
I plan on calling ahead to reserve space for 12 (guessing) under the name Jack Alworthy (say it out loud) unless there is fierce objection to this spot, to date or to time.
(If weather lousy on the 3rd can move it instead to old haunt Tir Na Nog, just across the street from Penn Station).

GOOD MORNING!!
I’m finally on my dad’s porch having coffee and watching the sun and trees make pretty designs on the barn.
mrmoshpotato
@Baud: You can’t do that! You don’t know the future!
Ken
Genius! Baud cuts right through the lies to the heart of the matter! This is what we need in a President.
Though I suppose you had a hint, since we’ve all now been trained to treat anything in all-caps as a lie.
mrmoshpotato
@MomSense: Woo hoo!
ETA – I imagine there’s a story, or I missed it in the comments.
NotMax
Know what we need to kick off the weekend? A dancing doggy.

There’s a new cat visitor to my backyard. I’m sure that he is looking for prey and since my lot is big, there’s plenty. The problem is that I have a dog. Finch went to sniff the new creature and the cat was not amused. I didn’t mind the swats, but did mind the fact that the cat cornered the dog and wouldn’t let him leave. Since then, I hosed the cat to encourage it to visit somewhere else. Is there anything else I can do. Shoo doesn’t work.
PaulWartenberg
You need to pop off the CAPS LOCK button and then gently re-insert the button back into place.
zhena gogolia
@NotMax: That’s great! So charming.

Looking for entertainment last night we scrolled through recent releases and settled on “Asteroid City”, knowing very little about it.
This morning we’re still saying “What the hell was that and why did he make it?” Which is how we feel about pretty much all Wes Anderson movies.
Nukular Biskits
Good mornin’, y’all!
I see I have a lot of catching up to do here. Been a long week with long/late hours here in Biskitland.
This morning, I have yet more definitive evidence that the reason for the existence of the Internet is cats (link to Twitter):
Ready, set, go! 😂

I’m not used to seeing AllCaps with no reference to rigged elections, insane prosecutors, or racist judges!
Baud
@Ken:
Not just all caps. Anything written in block letters deserves skepticism.
mrmoshpotato
@Nukular Biskits:
I read that “Brisketland,” and now I think I know what’s for dinner.
NotMax
My luck holds true.
Flight from Maui is on Monday evening (tropical storm Fernanda). First stopover scheduled is LAX at dawn on Tuesday (hurricane Hilary).
Baud
@NotMax:
You’re like the pied piper for storms.
JPL
@NotMax: Oh no! Safe travels.
Nukular Biskits
@Baud:
I thought that was reserved for Comic Sans.
Nukular Biskits
@mrmoshpotato:
Wasn’t even thinking about dinner (or even breakfast yet) but, now that you mention it, a brisket sounds good!
And, thanks to you, I’m also now thinking about breakfast. There’s a restaurant in Jacksonville, FL, area called “Vicious Biscuit” (apparently it’s a chain) and one of those would hit the spot right now.
MagdaInBlack
@NotMax: Let us hope you do not end up like one of your redirected packages.
May your trip be safe and uneventful 😊

@MagdaInBlack
Ordered the gift for the August 26 wedding last night from Amazon, to be delivered to Mom’s place in NY. Fingers crossed, package-wise.

@NotMax: That’s what canine freestyle would look like if the humans could dance as well as the dogs….

Oh man, brisket. There’s a cafe about 20 mins away that has a sandwich with homemade brisket and homemade potato chips. I try not to be one of those guys who always orders the same thing, but that sandwich is so good that I end up ordering it every time. If I order something else I’m full of regret and have to order the brisket to go.
But that place we only go to when we go to the produce market next door. And we’re still drowning in last week’s produce. And I’m still carrying the weight from last week’s brisket.
oatler
@Baud:
When is the wedding?
MagdaInBlack
@Nukular Biskits: You and NotMax now have me looking up menus and planning my imaginary order.
Nukular Biskits
@MagdaInBlack:
@mrmoshpotato started it!
Dorothy A. Winsor
You look alarmed.
WaterGirl
@Baud: That’s what was weird! It happened after the ! and before I typed my second letter in the post.
It turns out that caps lock wasn’t stuck on, it was the SHIFT key that got stuck somehow when I entered the first capital letter of my post.
I just got back from the farmer’s market and tried to refresh the page, and it did something wonky. That’s when I realized it was the Shift key that was stuck.
WaterGirl
@MomSense: I know exactly what you mean. Natural art, so gorgeous.
zhena gogolia
@WaterGirl: A couple of people upthread diagnosed this.
mrmoshpotato
@Nukular Biskits: Hey. Eating is necessary for living. 🧬😋🍽️
And now I’m looking up Vicious Biscuit. With a name like that, I’m sure there’s something on the menu that’ll make me go “Mmmmmmmmm.”
mrmoshpotato
@Ceci n est pas mon nym:
Healthier than drowning in brisket. 😯 Mmmmmmm
mrmoshpotato
@Nukular Biskits: Yes! I started it! And I just finished reading Vicious Biscuit’s menu, and 😯🤤😋!
Glidwrith
@Ceci n est pas mon nym: I beat all of you to the brisket last night at a combination meadery/BBQ place called the Serpentine. Plus pulled pork, Cajun fries, beer-battered portobello mushrooms and suckatash.
mrmoshpotato
@Glidwrith: Add that to my stomach too!
BruceFromOhio
That’s not how it works.
tybee
@NotMax:
that’s an auspicious date. this 8/26, what’ser’name and i celebrate our 45th anniversary.

@mrmoshpotato:
Just my happy place with my dad on the porch looking out at the barn and the ocean.
Nukular Biskits
@mrmoshpotato:
I had the signature “Vicious Biscuit” and I must say it was pretty good!
Miss Bianca
@NotMax: Oh, that was cute. As well as amazing. Plus, those harem pants that EP was wearing are hot. :)
@Glidwrith: Meadery/BBQ place? WHERE IS THIS PLACE?!
Ruckus
@Spanky:
Sigh….
Actually caring what day it is!
What is this world coming to?
OK there are sometimes that one still has to have some level of understanding or caring what day it is. There are things like doctor appointments that actually mean we have to be somewhere, sometime, maybe somewhere near this thing called time.
Juju
Apparently your laptop is having some sort of Trumpish mental breakdown.
hotshoe
@Glidwrith:
are you in San Diego?
ready for the hurricane?
Ruckus
Here in SoCal it seems that we may be getting the remains of a hurricane for the first time in known history. So in the development next to where I live new roofs were being put on 3 houses. Two are done and the third was still stripped to the plywood base but they did the tarpaper underlayment yesterday. Normally no big deal in SoCal, but. We have a tropical storm warning and a 20% possibility of rain and thunderstorm this after noon, moving to 90% Sunday day and 100% by Sunday night with expected rain of 1-2 feet for a total possibility over this time of 3 feet. I’ve seen storms like this twice before in my life. Back in 1969 we had a rainfall of about 4 feet in one day. Once crossing the Atlantic east to west we had rain and 45-50 foot seas for 4 days and ended up around the Saint Lawrence rather than South Carolina because that was the only direction possible to go without sinking. So this is expected to be a somewhat strong storm, possibly the 3rd strongest I’ve ever seen. And so there is a guy up on the roof, nailing things down. I’m not expecting this to end well…..
Ruckus
@NotMax:
The majority of the storm should be through by then, the National Weather Service shows clear skies Tuesday morning.
Glidwrith
@Miss Bianca: San Diego. There’s a cidery in the Serpentine as well. We’re keeping an eye on the hurricane, expecting roughly an inch of rain this evening. I’m on somewhat elevated ground for the area, so it’s more a matter of not being stupid and trying to cross flood waters than anything else.
zhena gogolia
@Miss Bianca: she wears those pants well

Knowing that weather models are based on prior observed behaviour when each particular set of conditions were experienced, way out of the norm events like cyclone Hilary have a lot of uncertainty in the predictions. I hope all who are in the landfall area come through safely.
I was once in what was later named a 1,000 year event and I will say this: do not under any circumstances attempt to drive during the rain; you can hit an area in the storm that is like a firehose pointed at the ground and you won’t be able to see, nor will anyone around you. I do hope some of the heavy rain heads straight north to tamp down the fires giving us so much smoke here in central Oregon.
wjca
@NotMax:
Quick! Book a flight to Yellowknife! They really, really need the rain.

@WaterGirl: It’s usually not that the (left or right) shift key is stuck, so much as a “missed event” on the keyboard port (USB port now).
Modern keyboards send “key down” and “key up” events for each key press-and-release, and it’s up to software to determine what that means, for each key. This lets you do things like swap caps-lock and CTRL on Mac keyboards, or switch to French AZERTY keyboard mode, or whatever you like. But it introduces a new problem: a missed key-down event means the computer behaves as if you never pressed the key (not too bad) but a missed key-up event behaves as if you never let it go. With a typical setup, if the computer misses the key-up for the letter “a” for instance, you get
aaaaaa...
and when you see that happen you think “oh the A key is stuck” and you hit it again and everything is fine. But if the computer misses the left-shift-up or right-shift-up event, the software thinks you’re still holding down the shift key. It doesn’t look stuck! It isn’t actually stuck either, you just have to send another event-pair by pressing it again.PaulWartenberg
YOU’RE GONNA HAFTA BUY A NEW LAPTOP! BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAaahahahaa… ahhhhh… um… oh, it’s unstuck now.
