We have the best people. For real.
True soldier. Real Patriot.

They have pieces of shit. Dangerous excuses for human beings.
It’s awful enough that someone would say all of this. But who listens to that and think “ooh, I want to see those people in power again?”
These people would have literally voted for Hitler.
Open thread.
Alison Rose
I love when right-wing extremists start talking about lists of people they have. Super fun times. Very cool. Love this for us.
Betty
Sorry I watched that second clip. These are sick people.
Yarrow
Who are you talking about? There can’t be all that many people still alive who literally voted for Hitler. And how many of them are in the US?

Lapassionara
Well, the FNYT’s editorial this morning outlines all the ways that Trump is our Hitler. Lots of words about the danger we face, but not a word about how to defeat the danger. I think one step would be for the “paper of record” to print one article a day under a blaring headline, recounting the many misdeeds and lies of his administration. Interview his former cabinet members, his former chiefs of staff. Interview John effing Bolton. Focus on his use of a personal cell phone, his theft of government secrets, his wooing of autocrats. I could go on, but my blood pressure is rising with each memory of his maladministration.
WaterGirl
@Yarrow: Sorry, the was a typo. “who” was intended to be “would”. So great that you caught that and wanted to bring it to my attention.
zhena gogolia
@Lapassionara: But then there wouldn’t be space for articles about Biden’s age and his biting dog!
WaterGirl
@Dickeylee: Granted probation? I’m sure he’s learned his lesson. //
Just like Trump did!
schrodingers_cat
@Lapassionara: May the the NYT wants to frighten us and accept our fate.
Yarrow
@WaterGirl: I honestly did not know who you were talking about. I subjected myself to that horrific video you felt the need to post because I thought those people were interviewing an actual Hitler voter and it was somehow an important interview, since the rest of your post didn’t say who the Hitler voters were. Your omitted word was not obvious to me.
gene108
@Dickeylee:
Those judges have some really strange sense of right and wrong. Makes me wonder how they treat the women in their lives.
Scout211
And in more evidence for the theme of this thread (the worst people):
Law Student Accused of Beheading Girlfriend Was Touted as ‘Victim’ of #MeToo by Trump Admin
. . .
WaterGirl
@Yarrow: That wasn’t a criticism; I was merely explaining that I typed “who” accidentally when I intend to type “would”
I appreciate it when people point out stuff like that, like my misspelling of Dianne as “Diane” yesterday, or misspelling oligarch when I trusted autocorrect intend of my own instincts.
Frankensteinbeck
I still think we will find, when all the digging goes on after his death, that Trump is a Nazi in a literal ‘Heil Hitler’ sense. He sees himself as Hitler’s natural heir, and his only differences in philosophy seem minor to Trump: Trump hates blacks the most, and sees Jews as his model minority. He believes all the anti-Semitic tropes, he just thinks greedy manipulators are a good thing.
zhena gogolia
@Frankensteinbeck: Ivana testified that he had Mein Kampf on his bedside table. I believe her.
But Biden’s voice is raspy, so it’s all the same.
WaterGirl
@Scout211: Hmm, maybe this is a fail on my part because I was going more for “we have the best people” than for highlighting the worst people.
I do think it’s important, though, to know that people are saying this stuff in the light of day, and it’s not just the crazies.
Yarrow
@WaterGirl:
‘You edited your original comment, which said it was “obvious” that you left out the word would. Now your comment says what I quoted above. My response was to your original comment. It was not obvious to me.
Scout211
Valid point. I thought it was a best/worst people contrast thread. I guess I misread it.
I would be fine if you want delete my comment.

@Lapassionara: Why just the other day NYT called him a “budding autocrat”.

@Scout211:
I thought the thread was going to be about me.

They instead, voted for Trump. Odious people through and through.
WaterGirl
@Scout211: No deleting! :-)
I seldom post the puke that comes out of a lot of the Republicans, preferring to amplify more of the good stuff, but it seemed important to include that as a contrast this time.
I really cannot fathom how people can hear that and think “I’m for that!” Shocking, really.
Dorothy A. Winsor
@WaterGirl: I was impressed by the Ds in that impeachment hearing yesterday. They were universally prepared, smart, and unafraid.
noncarborundum
@zhena gogolia: Not Mein Kampf itself, IIRC, but rather a volume of collected speeches. I don’t know which is worse. I’ve read (some of) Mein Kampf myself out of historical interest, but I can’t think of a reason I’d want to read the speeches.
planetjanet
Any one know why there is a motion to adjourn on the House floor right now?
trollhattan
Meanwhile, Trump talks at California Republicans.
Geminid
They’re still having a good time over in the House Chamber. Punchbowl News editor Jake Sherman has been live tweeting the wrangling over another Continuing Resolution that would temporarily fund the federal government.
Sherman also reposted an item John Bresenan put up a few minutes ago:
Another Scott
@planetjanet: I assume it’s a tantrum to try to prevent a vote on a CR.
It’s going down to ignominious defeat on C-Span – no votes in favor at the moment.
TheHill has more on the “clean” 45-day CR.
Cheers,
Scott.
HinTN
@planetjanet: No, but it’s a Privileged Motion. Anybody can make it and it supersedes all other business. I bet it came from one of the tantrum caucus
ETA: @Another Scott: got there first.
Baud
@Another Scott:
If it’s really clean and it passes, I’d imagine that’s a defeat for the Terror Caucus.
HinTN
@Another Scott:
“tantrum” – great minds and all that😎
WaterGirl
@Dorothy A. Winsor: Was that yesterday? Or the day before? Or maybe the hearing went on for two days?
If it was yesterday, too, I will have to go back and try to find some clips.
I wanted to marry the clips I put in the young pups thread on Thursday.
Baud
The motion to kick Gaetz in the nuts should also be a privileged motion.
WaterGirl
@planetjanet: No idea. In my experience, that means either an impasse, or a potential deal to be made that requires conversation on the floor.
So I am no help at all.
edit: but other people were!
Dorothy A. Winsor
@WaterGirl: I’m not sure which day. It all blends together. :-)
Shalimar
I won’t watch the 2nd video. And I don’t consider Milley to be one of “our” people. Just a soldier doing his job like a million others. The Joint Chiefs aren’t supposed to be political.
JoyceH
@Baud: yesterday McCarthy was talking about a ‘clean’ CR, that merely zeroes out military aid to Ukraine.
HinTN
@Baud: 👍 Maybe you should set your sights on being Speaker.
cain
Please tell me that is all hyperbole. The comments seem to come out as tongue in cheek since I know he can’t do pretty much anything in that list.
But making a comment about celebrating kids in cages makes him a shit person.

@JoyceH:
Didn’t the House separately pass a Ukraine bill?

@WaterGirl: Who the hell are these assholes in your posted video? It would be really, really useful to tell us who these assholes are so I don’t have to search for them to figure out the context. Otherwise, the Google algorithm that tracks my searches will inundate me with links to similar assholes and I don’t want that. A modest suggestion…
Alison Rose
@trollhattan:
Good lord. How does one say a six-word sentence in which three of them are this wrong.
dmsilev
@Baud:
Two very big ifs. Between McCarthy’s demonstrated malice and McCarthy’s demonstrated incompetence, there’s a lot of “we need to read this bill very carefully before voting on it” that is required.
Baud
@dmsilev:
Luckily, our people can read.
dmsilev
@Alison Rose: The LA Times had this choice bit from his “speech”:
I guess “hard to follow soliloquy” is newspaper-ese for “incoherent rant”.
SFAW
@Baud:
Which would (I hope) get unanimous consent.
WaterGirl
@Jackie: Did she choose the “count the IFs / drinking game” rep?
dmsilev
@Baud: Speak for yourself. I can only write and count.
Dorothy A. Winsor
@dmsilev: Pete Aguilar made that point too. I have no idea if McCarthy ever had any credibility, but he’s sure blown whatever he had.

In this day and age, when SFB is trying to actually overthrow the government and install himself as lard master (not a mistake) and I’d bet that he would try then to actually overthrow the government that he “runs” and create a monarchy with him as the head. (I use head here as it is used in the military – a place to read and relieve one’s self) He is one completely warped, deranged, asshole and he delights in proving it 24 hrs a day. IOW he is one very deranged, narcissistic asshole. His entire picture of himself is one that no one of sound mind would think is in any way normal. We likely have all met someone, over our lifetimes that is/was a narcissistic asshole, but we were smart enough to run away as fast as possible. He is in it so deep that nothing would ever convince him that he is one sick bastard. His view of the world has him as the center of everything. Our view has him sitting in an asylum ward or a jail cell because at this stage in his life he is never going to change for the better. Elevating him to president told him that he is king of the world and after that nothing is ever going to change his narcissistic personality. Except when he naturally stops breathing. His fans will hold him in the light because they can’t see that he is actually extremely bad for the human race, what with his greed, ignorance, and extremely screwed up (narcissistic) concept of himself.
Villago Delenda Est
@Shalimar: Milley is not being political. He’s expressing precisely what the oath of office means. That our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines do not swear allegiance to any person, but to the Constitution itself. It just so happens he was serving under a 3-year old in a 77 year old body who took a shit on the oath he took upon assuming office.
WaterGirl
@Jackie: Who was your favorite? And her favorite.
wjca
Not to give the judge a pass. But I really wonder about the prosecutor.
The guy not only destroyed evidence (while under an explicit court order to preserve it), but went to some fairly elaborate lengths to make sure he got it all. IANAL, especially not a lawyer in Kansas. But charging that as merely “interfering with law enforcement” seems pretty mild. At minimum, where are contempt of court and obstruction of justice? Arguably multiple counts, one for each action
WaterGirl
@wjca: Clearly an abuser with connections. Ugh.

Good Lord – he beat her until she lost consciousness, how much punishment does it take to do that?! Can’t believe he got probation. There’s no way this was a one-off. He’s beaten women before, and he will again. That fucker ought to be locked up for decades, to keep that from happening.
And if some quirk in the law somehow allowed probation, there was the matter of his destroying the evidence after being specifically told not to when he was released on bail. (Isn’t that obstruction of justice?) When crime is piled on top of crime, you can’t just let someone go.
wjca

So where are we in the process? As best as I can tell, Rep. Katherine Clark asked for a 90-minute adjournment so that the Dems could read Qevin’s ‘clean’ 45-day CR (because for some odd reason, they don’t find him trustworthy), that request was denied, and the CR was defeated. And there’s no bill on the floor right now. Do I have that right?
