Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

Fight them, without becoming them!

Someone should tell Republicans that violence is the last refuge of the incompetent, or possibly the first.

You are so fucked. Still, I wish you the best of luck.

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

The real work of an opposition party is to hold the people in power accountable.

Stamping your little feets and demanding that they see how important you are? Not working anymore.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

If a good thing happens for a bad reason, it’s still a good thing.

We’re watching the self-immolation of the leading world power on a level unprecedented in human history.

The Giant Orange Man Baby is having a bad day.

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

“When somebody takes the time to draw up a playbook, they’re gonna use it.”

This blog will pay for itself.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

How stupid are these people?

When you’re in more danger from the IDF than from Russian shelling, that’s really bad.

I really wanted to title this post Balls to the Wall, but I was able to to exhibit at least a modicum of self control.

Whether it’s our awesome members in the House, or President Biden, or a bunch of young women in MN, I like what I’m seeing.

I’ve been working all day, so apologies if you have already seen all of these already.

when it comes right down to it, most of the elected folks in the GOP have grown used to having to operate in their own media bubble over at Faux and OAN and all of the other fawning rightwing media ensembles…. when they get exposed to anything outside that bubble they find out that while they can try and sell that shit they’re peddling, but its a damn sight harder to sell it.

This is hopeful, especially with DeSantis endorsing the ethnic cleansing of the population of Gaza when asked about the region during the debates.

I was introverted. But, I had a 6 pack, still do.

My Momma taught me how to be “The Gentleman”.

Got picked up one time after close, at the Ovaltine Cafe. Young woman, ( I was a young man) asked if she could sit at my table, her “date” was not impressed. So we talked. It was difficult because she was deaf, and close to mute, but there were lot’s of napkins and I had a pen which I shared. She asked me to come home with her, “for coffee”, so I followed her and her GF on my motorbike, back to her place. An apartment above a retail shop on Willingdon street.

Her GF left, to drive the babysitter home, (kid????),

    That was okay too.

In the early AM, while she was back asleep, we, (her son and I) had Captain Crunch and watched cartoons together. When she got up, there was coffee and I made us a proper breakfast.

I left her my number, but was working night shifts for the next two weeks. Never heard back.

    S’okay.

Another way to put it, is any woman that was willing to sleep with me, even for just one night, was not a “slut”,

any woman who was not willing to sleep with me, had dicerning taste.

Allison and I hooked up at at Club. She, me and her BF, staggered drunkenly back to her parents house, ( they were away), where we slept in blankets on the Rec room floor, (remember those?). There was some slight macking, but no more that that. There was never anything more than that.

For the next 3 years, until she got married, she would come by my house, hang with my mother for a bit, then come into the basement, to wake me for work. We would then hang for an hour or so, and just talk.

I think it was Fran Lebowitz who said that the scariest thing about Trump is how stupid he is.

Trump’s stupidity is only a small part of what makes him so scary, and the flip side of that is that his stupidity has helped immeasurably in limiting the damage he has done.

Of equal importance in Trump’s scariness are his seriously failing cognitive abilities. He’s not just stupid; he’s nuts. Now, he wants to build a dome over the entire U.S.A. When he’s not defeating Obama, he’s making one insane statement after another. Magnets don’t work underwater; we could have prevented the Civil War by negotiating; antifa and the FBI led the charge on January 6, 2021; and the pain that Iowans feel over a fatal school shooting is “very unique to your state.” WTF?

Another obvious and important source of Trump’s scariness — he’s a sociopath. And the list goes on…

As for personal magnetism, I guess all we have to do is submerge Trump in water and his personal magnetism will evaporate. So sayeth the sage himself.

A factor conditioning Netanyahu’s statement yesterday regarding Gaza: South Africa presents its charge of genocide at the International Court of Justice today. South Africa’s counsel will cite inflammatory statements by Netanyahu and his cabinet members* as part of the evidence presented.

The UN body is based at The Hague, and the hearing was to commence at 10am local time, or 35 minutes ago. Israel wil present its defense tomorrow, with British Professor Malcolm Shaw, KC leading.

*One reason Netanyahu has so many cabinet members shooting their mouths off about Gaza is there are 30 cabinet positions. That’s lot for a nation of 9.5 million! When he put together his coalition together a year ago, the PM ended up promising cabinet positions to 30 different MKs, almost half his 64 member majority. Many of these positions have only nominal authority, but the staff jobs are patronage positions.

@TriassicSands: Trump repulses us, but his charisma certainly seems to work on a lot of the GOP.

as long as it doesn’t involve … animals.

I think it’s demonstrably true that many jackals have gotten to the “heavy petting” stage with kitties, so …

Interesting word choice to describe his full-on hatred, denigration, and murderous intent toward The Other.

Not really disagreeing, but that is the reason they love him, and thus think he’s “charismatic.”

It’s simply kind of laughable to watch anyone from the party of Trump and Gingrich try and plant a flag on this kind of “moral high ground”

Or Hastert, or Gaetz, or … well, actually, that list is so long, I could keep adding to it until the 2028 election.

    @moonbat:

He’s old, he eats crap, he’s in the “best?” shape of his crapola life, and he thinks he’s going to live forever?

One very rarely knows when the end is near but he’s such a health nut, he’s young (at 77, given his life?) seemingly eats so well, and yes I know old, I’m not much younger than him and see his concept of eating shit, being just a tad overweight, having a life of zero pressure and possible criminal behavior being such a positive force for living forever. As is typical for him, he’s basically in a corner, with zero concept of how to get out, mostly because he has zero idea how he got there in the first place. He thinks he can do no wrong and proves time and time again that being self delusional is no way to go through life.
