From the organizers of today’s NYC meetup:

We have planned to meet tomorrow at 5:30 at Peter McManus Cafe/Bar at 7th Ave at 19th St. So far there are just 3 of us, but a post might rustle up a few more bodies.

    I came in late this morning so the thread below is dead, but I wanted to join in the applause. My fears were unfounded and doG damn it I’m grateful for that! As Omnes found out, if I’m wrong, I try to own up to it. And with Anxiety being my spirit animal, it happens from time to time. Especially in as fraught times as these are.

    If 91% of the D base is with Dark Brandon, the media and unnamed Democratic apparatchiks (probably one and the same) can go to hell. The media always had their thumb on the scales since Carter, and not in our favor.

    Obama had one month to turn it around before the General Election. There were plenty of Democrats clutching their pearls after that debate.

    Like it or not, that’s the end of that. Biden-Harris it is for Dems. Legally, Biden has the high ground–he has to agree to step aside and he is clearly not going to do so. Today’s question: Will Dem officeholders, donors, rank-and-file reunify quickly, or will they do what they did, more or less, in 1968, 1980, 2000, and 2016 (among other years)?     And more Democrats need for their initial reaction to being shat upon by the media, “insiders”, “centrists”, and “Real True Progressives” should be to get angry and fight back harder instead of collapsing into a puddle of tears.

    It occurred to me long ago that the crew of LGM, most (all?) of them white, male and tenured, have the luxury of being cynical and defeatist.

    The rest of us, in less privileged and more precarious positions must keep our spirits up because we know we have no choice but to slog on.

    I try to stay away from that place but must admit I learned a lot when I was a frequent guest. They are professors, they ought to have informed takes and background knowledge to share. But I definitely do not miss the swarmy smugness.

    Fun trivia…back when I was driving around 7 weeks, 7000 miles in 2017 in Utah, NM and AZ, I suggested that we should have a morning  on the road thread to share travel, travel tips, locations, itineraries. I kept posting in the regular, early AM thread about that trip in real time. I felt like I was hijacking those threads on that trip. My Poco was prominently featured in some of those early on the road threads. Fun times.

    Getting ready to buckle on my portable defibrillator and hit the road.

    The Saturday, July 20th, Noon,  Historicon / Lancaster Pa, meetup:  Bit of snag, event S13-287* moved (air con balky in the Monty House (historic house built into the Conv Ctr)).  So if you’re not a member of the convention, tell them you’re meeting friends at that event, for lunch, where is it moved to?

    I’m ‘piggybacking’ the meetup with the setup for event my friends are running, so when that starts we can either move out to continue discussion, maybe eat and drink;  or each of us take command of a frigate;-)

    @eclare: thank you. I think on my next extended trip I will do that again in the morning AL thread. Frosty was traveling at the same time. He contributed in real time too. It was fun getting feedback and suggestions in real time. Unfortunately, a lot of those old nyms seem to be gone.

    I hope to get to Farmington, NM area and camp at Chaco, Bisti and up to Hovenweep in the Fall. Without JoJo. JoJo really isn’t the best road warrior and camper. He is a homebody. I am also trying to retrace some of my 2017 Utah trip over 2 weeks in Nov. That trip depends on the election. AZ in Dec. My postponed Death Valley trip in February. Have a great day.
