Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

If you cannot answer whether trump lost the 2020 election, you are unfit for office.

“I was told there would be no fact checking.”

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

Democracy is not a spectator sport.

This really is a full service blog.

You cannot shame the shameless.

Never give a known liar the benefit of the doubt.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

They punch you in the face and then start crying because their fist hurts.

If you still can’t see these things even now, maybe politics isn’t your forte and you should stop writing about it.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

I’m starting to think Jesus may have made a mistake saving people with no questions asked.

Republican also-rans: four mules fighting over a turnip.

75% of people clapping liked the show!

American history and black history cannot be separated.

First They Curse, Then They Press Me 'Til I Hurt

Whatever our feelings on the Democratic ticket, I think we can all agree that Rudy Giuliani getting thrown out of bankruptcy court is worth a laugh or two:

A New York judge dismissed Rudy Giuliani’s bankruptcy case on Friday, clearing the way for two Georgia election workers to try and recover nearly $150m Giuliani was ordered to pay them for defaming them after the 2020 election.

The ruling by US bankruptcy Judge Sean Lane comes after lawyers for the two women, Ruby Freeman and her daughter Shaye Moss, as well as other creditors accused Giuliani of concealing information about his finances. The judge also prevented Giuliani from refiling for bankruptcy within one year.

I hope Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss bleed him so bad that he ends up making his martinis from plastic bottle vodka and smoking Swisher Sweets.

Fuck Rudy Giuliani for real, but also can we just appreciate how wide, deep, and thorough the damage  is that Trump has done to some of the worst people in the world?  Yeah, he’s a garbage fascist who looks like a lumpy yam two months after Thanksgiving, but boy oh boy he’s really putting in work revealing and ruining bad peoples’ lives.

But, like, so many other people are equally rotten and bad, they just haven’t been as lucky in life to fail upward so far. And every MAGAt douchebag is equally as sycophantic and awful…..again, circumstance is the only separator.

Think of all the down on their luck humans that would have 2 less cardboard boxes to live in. They should just have to live without boxes, and not using an underpass. No shade, no protection from the rain. Most of those people that live under an overpass never had what those 2 had by screwing so many others. If they are going to lose everything they should have to live without shelter of any kind, from the cold, the sun, the rain.

I’ve lived in Los Angles County for most of my life, I worked and then owned a business within the city of Los Angeles. I’ve seen people living on the street, barely having the minimum of clothing on their backs because most of humanity turned their backs upon them. And these 2 pompous, greedy assholes had far more than enough and their greedy asses shouldn’t get any more.

OT but current:  The Gay Furry Hackers found that many of the IP’s used by the Heritage Foundation were Chinese.

    Chinese!

I thought it was primarily Putin and company who were focused on installing a dictatorship in the US and in Europe.  Then again the plot to assassinate the head of Rheinmetal, Germany’s largest arms manufacturer and supplier of armaments to Ukraine, is plenty scary.

But China pulling strings at the Heritage Foundation scares me.

It was as recently as 2008 that Guiliani was for awhile early on a leading contender for the GOP Presidential nomination as supposedly somewhat moderate (for the GOP) on issues other than law n’order, flaming out relatively early once actual primary voting started.  That was in the era before the GOP developed a preference for utter flaming assholes over only sorta sometimes assholes.  A man whose timing was 8 to 16 years wrong to match his personality.

    @Dan B:

funny thing, AGW has made Arctic shipping conditions even worse in the North American Arctic. Because of changing currents and wind, pack ice movement has become unpredictable and irratic. A channel that was navigatable yesterday, could be blocked today. Same for ports. Most of the supplies that arrive in the North, go by shipping, barges mostly, and barges , ships can’t plow their way through pack ice, sometimes even icebreakers have a hard time of it.

Basically, real time, detailed satellite imagery is needed.

It’s 27C here today, but we got a bit of a break last night as night time temps dropped to 16C,

But, we also have an inversion so the entire Lower Rainland is under air quality alerts. It’s not great here, but it really sucks further out in the valley where all our air pollution stacks up.

I’d wondered about the “Ice Free Inside Passage” fantasy since it could be persistent ice every winter pushed around by erratic Jet Stream winds for the next century.  Permanently ice free would likely cause massive turbulence in the atmosphere and at sea
