Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

No Kings: Americans standing in the way of bad history saying “Oh, Fuck No!”

Wake up. Grow up. Get in the fight.

Michigan is a great lesson for Dems everywhere: when you have power…use it!

Optimism opens the door to great things.

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

… gradually, and then suddenly.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

Stay strong, because they are weak.

The fight for our country is always worth it. ~Kamala Harris

Find someone who loves you the way trump and maga love traitors.

This fight is for everything.

If America since Jan 2025 hasn’t broken your heart, you haven’t loved her enough.

Democracy is not a spectator sport.

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

Lick the third rail, it tastes like chocolate!

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

“Just close your eyes and kiss the girl and go where the tilt-a-whirl takes you.” ~OzarkHillbilly

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

Shut up, hissy kitty!

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

If you cannot answer whether trump lost the 2020 election, you are unfit for office.

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

All my life I’ve medium to large dogs including a genetic freak #125 German Shorthair Pointer.

  1. Picture 1 is my last 2, Sioux and Jada.  Sioux was about 6 when I rescued her and had never bonded with anyone.  A 500 ,mi overnight back home attached her to me big time.  Jada was a wanna be show dog who didn’t like people but liked Sioux and me.
  2. When I had to get my son to load Jada in the car for her last ride I decided at 73 big dogs were a thing of the past so I looked for a couple of months and found a rather fiesty Pom mix, pound name Pipsqueak.  After about 10 min I decided this did not reflect who he is so I renamed him Bear.  It’s nice having a 12 pounder to scoop up.  He’s good down to about 0º and loves his walks winter of summer.

I think Vance made some negative comment about the US being run by childless cat ladies and my first thought was my childless cat lady spouse would be good at running things.

Also, in cycling news no one but me cares about: Today, Richard Carapaz became the first rider from Ecuador to win a stage of the Tour de France. Great race. Really fun.

Its kind of an adjustment, right, to go from yuge guy to a dog “I can palm with one hand”, right? Cute! Is he barky?

@guachi: Thanks for the cycling news AND for the shout out to Mme. Guachi.

(Here’s hoping they keep on dissing groups of people who tend to be highly competent and vote in throngs, bringing neighbors with them, hah!)

ETA: cute fierce little Bear!  and NICE RIDE DUDE!

Same.  With our dear Koda gone (86 lb. Lab), I plan to keep our future doggos to the <30 lb. range like Lovey.  It’s just easier for me since my partner is slipping ever more into a cognitive decline and is not exactly helpful at this point.  He’s not completely lost to dementia but he’s not the helpmate he was.

@WaterGirl: As the owner of a 130# Lab and a 90# Golden I get it.  But they are both slightly smaller than the horses.    I doubt your Pom mix knows he is 12# and if he did it wouldn’t matter to him anyway.  Had a 12# shepoo and a german shepherd made the mistake of getting between him and his human and after the snarling and blood I don’t know who was more surprised the humans or the german shepherd.

@Ironcity: 130 lb lab! Holey Moley!!  I have been owned by Newfoundlands for many years, and I think only the fellow I have now is up to 130. (Actually that’s mid range for the boys, supposedly. I also had a pup whose sire was 175#. I had to put her down when she was not quite 5. She had so many orthopedic issues, I can’t think now of the thousands of dollars I poured out for her. Sweet girl though.

eta: I often tell people that having 2 Newfs, the cleanup is like a small pony except dog poo is stinkier. You must (excuse my French) have to shovel a lot of shit, no?

    Hooray for the pet stories!

Not sure how long we can sustain it as a daily feature, but I’m here for it along with other respite topics.

Might I suggest two types of Open Thread – “Truly Open” and “Open Except Politics”?
