Meet Rusty’s Juno & Bear. Or Bear & Juno, I do not know which is which.
I love this one on the water.
This is Anne’s Leeloo. This is as big as this photo gets, and ti took me some time to make it out.
Possibly related to my Miss Willow. I actually considered naming her Twister. Of course, Miss Willow suits her better.
Fake Irishman
So cute!
Edit: and First!
(did I do it right?)
WaterGirl
Guessing there are no kitties in the first household. Those paper towels are just begging to be pawed at and unrolled.
As for Miss Willow, I am tempted to nominate her for sweetest tummy ever, but Henry’s is even sweeter.
Heading for bed. Goodnight.
Martin
Is this our low-stakes topic to argue over? Let me give it a shot:
Your cats are crooked. Maybe try ironing them.
danielx
Wish I could turn my upper bodule 90 degrees at the waist.

I just watched Biden talking about the prisoners coming home. Damn, I love that man. Just. Damn.

I think cats have lots of vertebrae that allow them to do all that impossible stuff and still look cute.
Meanwhile, Bear and Juno or Juno look strong and intelligent.
Our President quietly goes along doing what needs to be done.
KrackenJack
@Martin: I believe steaming is the standard treatment.
Those kittehs are just flaunting their luxurious relaxation. I’m not at all envious. I’m not, I tell you.
Jackie
@rikyrah: Yes he is! Best president of my lifetime. For Real.
BethanyAnne
And I just got home from work, and got to watch some of the Olympics. I love it – our athletes are amazing.
WaterGirl
@Martin: it can be if you want! :-)
that must be a reference to some thing. I’ve missed over the last few days.
Yutsano
Cats are liquid. This is known.
I’ve been way too busy today but did anyone catch this zinger from the President?
mrmoshpotato
@BethanyAnne: Sounds uplifting. (Well duh.) I think I need to watch that.
danielx
@Nancy:
It’s the extra vertebrae that allow them to expand their lengths 3x when they stretch, like a slinky.
mrmoshpotato
@Yutsano: Go Joe!
Jackie
@BethanyAnne:
As was I. Then again when Jake Sullivan got emotional. His choking up…
Yutsano
She’s going to destroy him.
KatKapCC
@Nancy: @danielx: They technically have a couple fewer than humans do, but what they do have is more lumbar vertebrae than we do, as well as unattached clavicle bones, so their bodies are super bendy and squishy. That’s also why a cat can fit through any space that its head fits through, and gives them the insane righting reflex.

Watching the tv

So, a vent.
T went to Edmonton on Saturday. The purpose of the trip was to see her parents, see L, her BFF from High School who had recently reconnected, and to see B & B, our besties whom are dealing with life.
About 6 years ago, we tried to move out there, because where we were had no jobs, and her parents are old, have health issues and we could help take care of them. We lasted all of 4 days, before their passive aggressive dismissals turned to full on rage, and we left and went N/C.
About 4 years later, T got back in contact because of her sister. Did one trip there with her sister, which went well, because her sister can “manage” their parents.
B and B, (who have major health issues) picker her up from the airport. They were out there to help B’s oldest son move into his first house, ( a broken pit) since the divorce, and in addition, her Dad is going into emergency extended care and Ruth, her step mom is going into hospice care. T had a good time with B & B as we always do, then was dropped off at her parents. Part of the reason to visit was to inform her parents of her cancer diagnosis. Evening 1 went well, day 2 went okay, and T left to meet her BFF from High School for lunch, lunch turned into dogs, drinks, life stories until 2 am. T slept over, went back to her parents at 6:30 am.
T made tea, sat on the back porch to drink her tea, went in to take a shower, and both her parents just exploded on her. She had already started packing, so she said enough, finished packing didn’t even say goodbye and left. B and B dropped what they were doing and came and picked her up. They had brunch, B talked T down some, and then off to the airport to fly home. Got home at about 8:30 pm, went back to N/C with her parents. When she got home, I got all of it. She broke N/C just to let them know she got home, then went back to N/C.
Next day was scheduled WFH, so no biggie,
Day after that, T had 2 medical consults, ( they call, tell you a time, always on short notice, either take it, or wait a month or so for the next window), one medical, the other mental health. So she told her boss that she could come into the office until 2pm, but would have to leave to come home to take the consults, then WFH to backfill the time. Her boss was, nope, you have to come to work, you can do the consults from the semi private offices and then we need to have a meeting about this, T noped out, said she was taking a vacation day, would not be meeting with her Boss to “discuss it” with out her Union Rep and a University Occupational Health rep present. JFC.
So T got a “doctors note” today, basically politely ripping the Uni a new one over how they are treating her, and if they are so concerned about “productivity” well they wasted about 8 hours of her work time, the Union Reps time and the OH reps time, just so far.
It’s F’d up, she has a critical role, there is no back up, and nobody is cross trained, they have one other Department member leaving in August, and another going on medical leave in September, none of those positions are going to backfilled with temps, and her boss is going on Mat leave in October.
It’s a shit show.

Yeah, she doesn’t need this shit, when the storm is coming.

What a wonderful day for America ♥️ My heart is overflowing.
Thank you, President Biden.

This is good TV, good exposure, good optics as the kids say. Joe is showing his age physically and yet that brain is still as sharp as ever and his skill and deftness at actual politics will be a study for future historians and journalists to take on.

Three things that struck me today:
1. Harris and the WSJ reporter (Evan G.) had a moment on the tarmac that was priceless.
2. Vance is just a fountain of terrible weird creepy takes on issues, with the abortion clip that was unearthed today being just one.
3. What was worst for Trump at the NABJ interview wasn’t the audio — I mean that was bad but his supporters like that — but the visual and affect. He was sitting awkwardly and just looked like an uncomfortable old grouch. I think playing the video of him over and over from that, especially from some of his less coherent bits, would be great.

Bear is the black one and Juno is the brown. The pictures were taken at my in-laws summer place on an island in Lake Champlain, north of Burlington VT. We have a couple of cats too, but they were home that trip. Both dogs like to swim so it’s a good place for them.

@Quinerly: in a way, it’s kind of surprising that Flake didn’t leak what was taking place to the GOP for Trump to try and sabotage it. Now I know that Flake is not enamored with DJT, there are so few Republicans out there that have any sense of duty, I guess it still strikes me that Biden’s relationship with him must have been so positive to have it not been an issue.
sab
@sab: Hope to catch remainng cats today. These two are my favorites because of their bad attituide. Looking out for themselves because we are not good at protecting them.

@Gloria DryGarden:
Thank you.
When I supervised or managed staff, I had to deal with employees facing a “critical health issue”.
I would ask them into my offices, ask them what they wanted to say, and be supportive and accommodating.
I am fuming, because what part of “critical health issue” don’t you understand. Doctors don’t just throw it out there .
And it’s the emotional toll, the stress, as I am T’s stress plushy.
I had to cancel a Zoom job interview for their BS, because being so pissed off at corporate,………. not a good thing and stuff would bleed over.
And I am going to need a decent job soon,……….. to cover for her health.

@Jay: I’d be livid, beside myself angry , too. And cancer is no joke.
I want things to get better for you, so I’ll tell you some of the things that help me when I’m at the no-contact, shut down enraged place. Unfortunately I know it well, different situations than yours, but a pretty abusive family.
so I’m gonna go out on a limb. If any of this is a fit for you or someone else here, awesome. If not, oh well, it was worth offering.
for immediate calming, if I can remember it, I like rescue remedy, it’s drops, you put in water, homeopathic, but it sure works for lots of people.
I imagine a goddess is holding her hands out like lily pads, huge, and I put people in her hands to be cared for, protected, provided for. Like a frog on a lily pad. Because it’s way too big and daunting.
There’s a forgiveness exercise, I’ve been dragged through it in spite of my resistance, it didn’t pretend anything was nice, and it actually made a difference, both in my body/ health, and in the difficult relationship w my family member. Not all better, but a surprise of a little slack and unexpected kindness. It’s a pranic healing thing, if you search YouTube for “master Stephen co, forgiveness” it’ll probably come up, several versions. I can look for one tomorrow and put a link in this mostly dead thread. In case it helps. It sucks, but it’s pretty quick. I should do it myself.
the other thing people say to do in terrible shit relationships and situations, is ho’onopono. Do it toward yourself first, then maybe some loved ones, then the situation.. “I’m sorry , please forgive me, thank you, I love you”
now I have to take my own “advice,” damnit.
MagdaInBlack

@Quinerly: Thanks for this. I read this and it makes me all the more furious about the people I know who said Biden had to go because he was in cognitive decline/was senile. That was always so wrong. Such a shiv by people who knew nothing.
Geminid
@piratedan: Jeff Flake has done a good job in Ankara. US/Turkiye relations were tense and suspicious when Biden took office. The problems go back to George Bush’s stupid and destabilizing invasion of Iraq. Relations have improved greatly in the past year. One turning point was the meeting between Presidents Biden and Erdogan at the July, 2023 Nato Summit in Vilnius.
I learned that Flake was Ambassador to Turkiye in early February of 2023, when he and our Istanbul Consul greeted the US destroyer Nitze as it made a port call at Istanbul. This was the first time a US Navy ship had visited a Turkish port in several years.
Flake writes op-eds for the Utah newspaper Deseret News from time to time. Flake noted in one last winter that he recently swam the Bosphorus Strait that separates the European side of Istanbul from the Asian side. Flake said he wasn’t bragging, just illustrating Turkiye’s unique geographical position. But nonetheless, Flake was bragging a little I thought.
Besides Flake, Turkiye’s new Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan deserves credit for these improved relations. Since he took on the role in June of last year, Fidan has focused and “institutionalized” the foreign policy of his cranky and undiplomatic boss.

@Princess:
I was, still am, and will always be in the camp that Biden needed to step aside. Never thought he was in cognitive decline, though. Unfortunately, running for president and being president seem to require different skill sets. Perception of strength/vigor beats out knowledge/alliances built. Said it here before (and because I repeated my thoughts, I was accused of being in “cognitive decline”), the narrative was set by the press and the Republicans and reinforced by Biden’s piss poor debate performance. Imo, there was no way to get off the subject of age and how Biden presents without this RESET. Politics is a bloodsport. To paraphrase Nancy Smash from years ago, “win, baby, win.” I adore Biden, but the Dem Party is not a cult of personality of one person. I will gladly admit I am more of a “Party person” than wedded to one particular candidate.
I will always be convinced Biden couldn’t win in this climate and that is sad.
Harris will win with this reset. Narrative has been changed. Plus,,a short campaign season will greatly benefit her.
Quinerly
@Geminid: thanks for this comment. Much appreciated.
