UPDATE: See I go for a walk and they change the times on me. It looks like the Harris video time was incorrect. So the PBS feed is probably of the rally, too. Which is fun, btw, because, unlike the Harris feed, they show all the opening speakers and we get to hear the DJ
Hey, let me know if you guys want more of these. Watergirl and I’ve been talking about how best to keep posting these. I’m happy to do it when I’m around and I know she’s keeping an eye on events, too.
But if they’re of no interest or feel repetitive, no need to coordinate the posts.
This is scheduled to begin in 20 minutes.
PBS has the feed for her Economic speech later today (2:45 EDT, 11:45 PDT):
I’m off to walk the dogs, so hopefully this will go off without a hitch (bwhahahahaha)
Otherwise, totally open thread
Betsy
YES!!!
Ken
I already know who I’m voting for this fall, so I don’t need to see anything from Harris, and neither need nor want to see anything from Trump (except perhaps mockable snippets).
But we’re well past the days of “This program posts news to thousands of machines throughout the entire civilized world. Your message will cost the net hundreds if not thousands of dollars to send everywhere.” so I don’t have any problem with your good efforts to make it accessible.
BR
The Harris/Walz taco video is getting all the right kinds of people to melt down, but David Kurtz at TPM’s reaction was my reaction as well:
piratedan
keep doing it, we know that the media will try and represent the all important vibes and crowd-size parameters….
In a way, I like it because it genuinely reflects the enthusiasm for the ticket and we get the benefit of hearing from down-ballot peeps who are working locally to return sanity to the politics of our country. It’s a continual middle-finger to a large portion of the 4th estate that wants “us” to fail.
BR
Surprised that CNN presented Harris vs. Trump on economics straight up (so much so that KamalaHQ posted it):

KatKapCC
Hm…the top video says “live in 2 hours” at 11:45 PST. On the KH YT channel, it also says starting at 11:45 Pacific. I wonder if PBS has the time wrong for the other video?
zhena gogolia
I like being informed of these events, although don’t always have time to watch.
Shalimar
I don’t watch most of them, but I’m really happy they have separate posts when I want to go back and see one.
MomSense
The Onion’s post on Walz is so funny.
MazeDancer
Post ’em all!
But I think this speech is supposed to be at 2:45 EDT. Of course, that could have changed.
TaMara
@KatKapCC: It looks like the Harris video time was incorrect. So the PBS is probably of the rally, too. Which is fun, btw, because unlike the Harris feed, they show all the opening speakers and we get to hear the DJ
BR
I thought this was parody, but apparently not:
TaMara
@MazeDancer: Yeah, when I originally posted it, it was scheduled for 10:45 (12:45 EDT) and of course since I decided to leave the computer and walk the dogs, that changed. LOL
Lacuna Synecdoche
I’m seeing FP posts below about how Trump is self-sabotaging his campaign and sundowning to dementia – all of which is accurate – but I want to add another observation: I don’t think we’re using the word decompensating enough.
I mean, seriously, between the post-assassination attempt PTSD and the narcissistic injury from suddenly being in position to lose the race to a younger black woman, when he thought he had it in the bag against an older white man, Trump is openly decompensating. Seems like reporters should be talking about that more.
TaMara
Okay, I’m off again. If something else changes before the feeds go live, just roll with it. But if someone could let the Harris team know we are trying to help them here, so an accurate schedule would be helpful. Ktnx. 🤣😘
mrmoshpotato
Keep posting them. People who wanna watch live will, but they’re also nice to know about for later if interested.
Also, too, thanks.
Kelly
@BR: Are you telling me Gangs of New York was not a documentary?
Mousebumples
I usually can’t watch live while I’m at work, but I appreciate the updates!
p.a.
@BR: Vance is on the lookout for First Age elvish steel from Beleriand to defend us from orcs, as well.

@Lacuna Synecdoche:
Had to look it up. Sounds like something he’s not actively doing, but something that would physiologically happen to an old, drugged-up asshole by itself.
sdhays
@Lacuna Synecdoche: Also, he’s staying home most of the time. He seems to need a lot “rest”.
Lacuna Synecdoche
mrmoshpotato:
Seconded. People are either interested or benignly disinterested.
No one is going to hate or get too annoyed with repetition on this subject – we all understand that it is: useful to people who are interested; it’s useful to people who discover it later; it’s useful to people who want to come back to it later when they’re less busy; and, finally, we all know that when it comes to political messaging, repetition is good.
Betsy
@Lacuna Synecdoche: Heaven knows if it were Joe Biden, there would be coverage of nothing else.
Matt McIrvin
@Lacuna Synecdoche: I’ve seen people occasionally note that “Trump is decompensating” as far back as 2016. It didn’t seem to hurt him then, in fact voters seemed to like it.
Captain C
@BR: Next thing he’ll do is condemn the Iranians on the basis of 300. Except he’ll refer to them as ‘Persians.’
Sheldon Vogt
I rely on this. Thank you for doing it and please never stop!
Captain C
@Lacuna Synecdoche: FTFNYT: Is TCFG Decompensating? Why that’s bad news for Kamala Harris and Democrats in general…
Ksmiami
@Lacuna Synecdoche: he should be nowhere near the nuke codes. Period. It is the one thing a president has way too much authority in terms of decisions.
VFX Lurker
I know the November election outcome is deadly serious for North Carolina, which is trying to fend off a crazy Republican candidate for governor. That said, I hope all the attendees still have fun with the name today.
“Welcome to the Raleigh rally!!!”
“We had to have a rally in Raleigh!”
…and so on. The name is just too much fun in this context.
Lacuna Synecdoche
I was talking about psychological decompensation rather than physiological.
WereBear
@Lacuna Synecdoche: Classic SF novel, The Demolished Man.
“Bester Forever,” they softly cheered.

@BR: The thing is, Vance isn’t wrong when talking about how many immigrant groups began on the ground floor in America, scrambling to get a toehold and yes, sometimes resorting to various kinds of, shall we say, off-the-books business activity to survive before eventually integrating. But of course that undermines his (and Republicans’) whole argument about more recent immigrants being a uniquely intolerable criminal menace and failing to integrate. Recent immigrants — from the Germans to the Irish to the Jews to the Italians and now Muslims and Hispanics — have *always* been attacked as alien and unassimilable by nativist assholes like Vance. Until they weren’t.
Vance is too unselfaware and obtuse to grasp that, obviously.
BR
Once again the LA Times is saying what the other major media outlets won’t:

Lacuna Synecdoche
@Matt McIrvin:
Yep, me too. I’m just pointing out that it seems to be even more applicable now than ever before, due to the aforementioned assassination attempt and narcissistic injury from falling behind in the presidential race.
Ken
Inability to cope with change, difficulty with normal life situations, delusions, deterioration of social interactions… I don’t know why you’re picking on Trump, this describes most Republican politicians.
BR
@jonas:
Also that perspective fits the famous line “The law, in its majestic equality, forbids rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal their bread.” — back when those immigrants came they were shut out of the formal economy, so they were forced into things that were not legal.
Lacuna Synecdoche
@Ken:
Uh … well, okay, fair point.
jonas
@Lacuna Synecdoche: Josh Marshall today over at TPM has a good column pivoting off of a reader email about how the problem with the way the MSM covers Trump isn’t that they aren’t highlighting all the crazy shit he’s saying and doing these days. It’s that they’re framing it almost exclusively in terms of campaign strategy or candidate management: “Can Trump Reign Himself In?”; “Campaign Advisers Panic as Trump Goes Off Script Again”, etc. while completely ignoring the bloody huge elephant in the room, namely that Trump has clearly lost his goddamn marbles and is utterly unfit to be president. He was pretty damn unfit last time, tbh, but it’s just gotten so much worse.
He could hold a presser, take off his pants, and run around claiming to be a hummingbird named Toby, and Maggie Haberman would file a story headlined: “As Trump Claims to be Small, Nectar-Loving Bird, Handlers Worry He’s Not Focusing on Harris’s Record.”
MazeDancer
@TaMara: Maybe you could walk “em again, and the speech will start on time.
I know nothing about dog walking. But something looks off about JD Vance and Atlas. Alleged to be his GSD puppy. Whom he is subjecting to a day of travel.
Lacuna Synecdoche
@WereBear:
I have to check that out, haven’t read it yet.
[Adds to reading lis… Jeepers, that’s a long list.]
Ken
By the way, when I said above that I don’t mind seeing mockable snippets from Trump, I didn’t mean any of the front-pagers need to go out of their way — though it does seem a favorite topic. I have other suppliers, like GOLIKEHELLMACHINE on bluesky, who today noted
MazeDancer
At the end of his speech, JD said “Nobody kidnap my dog, because we want him back”.
Nothing weird….
WereBear
@MazeDancer: When television came in there was a whole new business renting them the proper dogs who were trained for the camera and everything. For those at home shots with wife and children.
And you said Vance has no sense of history.

Here’s my question.
After Harris delivers some form of economic policy proposals, will the press actually evaluate those proposals? Or will they speculate about how her proposals will affect the candidates’ poll numbers?
Not holding my breath.
SiubhanDuinne
First time I’ve heard her misspeak (and I’m not sure she was aware of it): Instead of “price-gouging,” she said “price-gauging.” Not a major gaffe by any stretch, but it was distracting.
Westyny
@Lacuna Synecdoche: Great book.
Villago Delenda Est
I’ll say to Kamala what I said to Michele: if you ever decide to dump your husband, I’m here for you.
Villago Delenda Est
@MazeDancer: Shades of the Checkers speech…
Villago Delenda Est
Hopefully not on the roof of the station wagon…
MazeDancer
Ambitious, but doable.
If she gets the Senate.

@Ken: This is why calling them “conservatives” is so wrong. They are reactionaries.
CaseyL
@Villago Delenda Est:
I think of them as primitive savages, actually.
Superstitious primitive savages.

Yes, always. And thank you.

Gonna go see Tim Walz in Omaha tomorrow. Not normally a rally (that’s not a protest) attending kind of person, but it seems like it will help the campaign create excitement and that electoral vote is up for grabs this year. Obama won it the first time he ran and Biden in 2020.

@SiubhanDuinne: I can’t get a sentence out without screwing up a word. I heard her as well. I’ve heard Don Old do it day in and day out.

@jonas: Here very late, after a very long day, but I want to thank you for putting this so succinctly. For my part, 1/4 of my family showed up in North America ca. 1635 and the other 3/4 mid-1800s in the Midwest, so remind me: Which side should I fight on? It’s all such BS.
