UPDATE: See I go for a walk and they change the times on me. It looks like the Harris video time was incorrect. So the PBS  feed is probably of the rally, too. Which is fun, btw, because, unlike the Harris feed, they show all the opening speakers and we get to hear the DJ

Hey, let me know if you guys want more of these. Watergirl and I’ve been talking about how best to keep posting these. I’m happy to do it when I’m around and I know she’s keeping an eye on events, too.

But if they’re of no interest or feel repetitive, no need to coordinate the posts.

This is scheduled to begin in 20 minutes.

    I already know who I’m voting for this fall, so I don’t need to see anything from Harris, and neither need nor want to see anything from Trump (except perhaps mockable snippets).

    But we’re well past the days of “This program posts news to thousands of machines throughout the entire civilized world. Your message will cost the net hundreds if not thousands of dollars to send everywhere.” so I don’t have any problem with your good efforts to make it accessible.

    In a way, I like it because it genuinely reflects the enthusiasm for the ticket and we get the benefit of hearing from down-ballot peeps who are working locally to return sanity to the politics of our country.  It’s a continual middle-finger to a large portion of the 4th estate that wants “us” to fail.

    I’m seeing FP posts below about how Trump is self-sabotaging his campaign and sundowning to dementia – all of which is accurate – but I want to add another observation: I don’t think we’re using the word decompensating enough.

    I mean, seriously, between the post-assassination attempt PTSD and the narcissistic injury from suddenly being in position to lose the race to a younger black woman, when he thought he had it in the bag against an older white man, Trump is openly decompensating. Seems like reporters should be talking about that more.

    No one is going to hate or get too annoyed with repetition on this subject – we all understand that it is: useful to people who are interested; it’s useful to people who discover it later; it’s useful to people who want to come back to it later when they’re less busy; and, finally, we all know that when it comes to political messaging, repetition is good.

    @BR: The thing is, Vance isn’t wrong when talking about how many immigrant groups began on the ground floor in America, scrambling to get a toehold and yes, sometimes resorting to various kinds of, shall we say, off-the-books business activity to survive before eventually integrating.  But of course that undermines his (and Republicans’) whole argument about more recent immigrants being a uniquely intolerable criminal menace and failing to integrate. Recent immigrants — from the Germans to the Irish to the Jews to the Italians and now Muslims and Hispanics — have *always* been attacked as alien and unassimilable by nativist assholes like Vance. Until they weren’t.

    Vance is too unselfaware and obtuse to grasp that, obviously.

    Once again the LA Times is saying what the other major media outlets won’t:

    When emails from Hillary Clinton’s campaign were leaked just before the 2016 election, the news media breathlessly covered the October surprise as if they’d opened Al Capone’s vault and there was actually something in it.

    The WikiLeaks dump provided journalists with a treasure trove of correspondence, from Clinton’s backroom thoughts on Syria and China to staffer complaints about the candidate’s “terrible instincts” to campaign chairman John Podesta’s risotto recipe.

    Fast forward to this month when it was revealed the Trump campaign was hacked and its emails leaked to the press. There was no media feeding frenzy over the contents of the breach, no divining about how the stolen emails reflect upon the former president or his bid for reelection. Major press outlets instead sat on the story for weeks until Trump’s campaign spokesman broke news of the hack Saturday.

    What a difference eight years make.

    The New York Times, Politico and the Washington Post opted not to publish the emails, even after the hack was revealed to the public. It was ironic given that all three outlets — like most of the news media — pored over Clinton’s emails in 2016, unleashing a torrent of salacious content but few if any bombshells. So what changed?

    It’s hard to know since the three news outlets in possession of the leaked material have not gone into detail about why they’ve abstained from publishing the emails, but they should explain their thinking. Hypocrisy is not a nice word.

    @Lacuna Synecdoche: Josh Marshall today over at TPM has a good column pivoting off of a reader email about how the problem with the way the MSM covers Trump isn’t that they aren’t highlighting all the crazy shit he’s saying and doing these days. It’s that they’re framing it almost exclusively in terms of campaign strategy or candidate management: “Can Trump Reign Himself In?”; “Campaign Advisers Panic as Trump Goes Off Script Again”, etc. while completely ignoring the bloody huge elephant in the room, namely that Trump has clearly lost his goddamn marbles and is utterly unfit to be president. He was pretty damn unfit last time, tbh, but it’s just gotten so much worse.

    He could hold a presser, take off his pants, and run around claiming to be a hummingbird named Toby, and Maggie Haberman would file a story headlined: “As Trump Claims to be Small, Nectar-Loving Bird, Handlers Worry He’s Not Focusing on Harris’s Record.”

    Gonna go see Tim Walz in Omaha tomorrow.  Not normally a rally (that’s not a protest) attending kind of person, but it seems like it will help the campaign create excitement and that electoral vote is up for grabs this year.  Obama won it the first time he ran and Biden in 2020.
