A woman with a book (mostly about policy), a mountain of legal and legislative writings, and decades of policy positions that became law—yet they’re hinting she’s “light on policy” while her opponent, who’s never faced a follow-up question, gets a free pass.

Vance tweeted that he had a video of Harris’s interview and it was a clip of a famously dumb answer by a teen beauty contestant who was mercilessly mocked about it for years. CNN asked Vance this morning if he regretted posting it now that he knows that the girl was so humiliated that she considered suicide. Vance said no, he thinks we need jokes and fun in politics. Asked if he will apologize, he gave a firm no. Humiliating a teen is « jokes and fun ».

There are 2 things we in Fl agree on, we love our state parks and that our nature preserves will not be improved by turning them into golf courses. By Tuesday the meetings were postponed, by Wednesday DeStupid was backpeddling so fast his boots were in danger of flying off. What I don’t get, and something Our Media™ seems to choose not to, is this… how does what Harris said in 2019: “There’s no question I’m in favor of banning fracking” translate into her somehow flip-flopping and being in favor of it now? I want to ask Dana Bash if she ever graduated 4th grade?
We’re all in favor of a cleaner, greener world, and if that means phasing out fracking, once replaced by a greener technology, most of us would indeed be in favor of the latter, as would be Harris, right? I just don’t get the brou-ha-ha. Always in the back of my mind, is that picture we’ve all seen: the little girl in a red jacket, knee-high-to-a-grasshopper, crying as her parents are being detained at the border, surely to be separated from her family. It’s always there.
That said, the reason what happened to the Nisei is so …. salient, is that these were -American citizens-. They weren’t immigrants and they weren’t undocumented either: they were -citizens-. If we can do it to our own -citizens-, then I know I’m not safe, and I won’t trust my certificate of naturalization will protect me, just as I won’t trust that my younger relatives’ US birth certificates will protect them either.
P.S. What happened to undocumented immigrant families at the border was a crime, and (IIRC) a violation of The Genocide Convention. I don’t mean to downplay the abomination, the violation, of these crimes. But for Americans, for people of color who are Americans, the thing I keep on coming back to, is that people can trick themselves into believing that they’re safe, b/c they have that American passport/birth certificate. Among the things that Takei and other Nisei teach us, is that that’s a false hope.

I have a friend who lives in London, used to be pretty lefty, and he actually had the -balls- to say that the UK should just stop farming, could import all that fruit, b/c that way they wouldn’t need to also allow in these foreign workers.
My flabber was gasted.
Of course, we’ve all read about the disaster that is the UK health system, and how there aren’t enough foreign workers of all kinds (health aides, nurses, doctors) and the NHS is overwhelming reliant on those foreign workers.
And I wonder what these fuckers in the US are gonna do when they decide to crack down on foreign workers: my parents came to the US in 1968 as part of a wave of Indian doctors that continues to this day. @BR: The deal was that Trump would give Afghanistan to the Taliban and the Taliban would help Trump win in 2020 by refraining from killing US troops until after the election.
Aiding and abetting the enemy in exchange for aid during an election is a Republican tradition. It worked fine for Reagan and Nixon.

@rikyrah: Why are they making people print them? I’m in AZ, and absentee ballots are mailed to voters and can be mailed back or dropped off.
Given the laws that have been passed that make it illegal to assist someone with their ballot, this is nuts.

Yet again, an elected Democratic woman has to school a boorish and ignorant GOP opponent.

They are very much NOT DOING THEIR JOBS.
If they were they would note that shitforbrains did a rather shitty job and that he is mentally disintegrating rapidly and in front of the entire world, which means if he was reelected he’d do a rather shittier job than he did the first and should be the ONLY time he gets within a very long run (which he is physically incapable of) of the WH. Meaning that he should NEVER be allowed within 500 miles of the WH, no matter what else happens in the rest of this century.
Now I believe there is no rule/law against a felon becoming president but if the rethuglican party wants to hire one and selects him as their candidate, it would seem that they should never be allowed to be a political party – ever again. Because their heads must be located in their exhaust port to think that is even within a million miles of reasonable politics.

And this is a surprise why? It’s been obvious all along that the House Republicans would struggle this year to get a Continuing Resolution passed (forget actual budget and spending bills). Even if they wanted to.
I hope the Democrats are geared up to immediately reprise their attacks on Republicans for shutting down the government. I seem to recall that it usually takes about 5-6 weeks for public fury to force Republicans to cave when they try this. Which would mean the festering sore would last right up to . . . Election Day. Truly their ability to shoot themselves in the foot knows no bounds.

@The Audacity of Krope: The kid needs to go back to the drawing board. His JD Vance is way too engaged. They know the deal and likely better than most anyone else. Look what jd vance has said in the last 24 hrs. Or what shitforbrains has said recently. They are not close to being capable of being the leaders of any country, let alone this one. They want power at the maximum cost to everyone else – on the planet. And neither of them is qualified to be a guy with a trash can with wheels and a broom and dust pan. I’ve known people with that job that actually could do a far better job in the WH than either SFB or JDV.

There isn’t a procedure to expel someone from the party. If you register to vote and say you’re a Republican, then you are one. Period.

They needed to be able to offer sincere apologies and a way to control or end the nasty real threats to immigrants and people who might be perceived as “illegal “ immigrants, so that they could risk coming back. The number of at least known deserters from their claimed party is and likely will be around for a while, because of who has the keys to their party. SFB and his fans. Some may still vote R, because it’s ingrained in their brains. But a lot may or may not because of our extremely positive choice to run for the office – Harris/Walz. In my 3/4 of a century this is one of the very best duos to run for the highest office. But we are going to have to really sell this duo.
Very much worth the work, but it is going to take WORK. I wish and hope I’m wrong and that they win by the largest margin ever. But I can’t hold my breath that long. And I will help as best as I can, as we all should do.

And I know because I’ve voted for decades and worked on campaigns AND worked in professional sports, part time for 20 yrs and full time for 10. If a country had the level of rules and participation that professional sports does, I’d bet that more than a few of our possible choices over the centuries this country has existed would not have been able to run.

That is actually true for any craft, ya gotta know the ins and outs and have to know them well to do the job. Some jobs ya gotta know more than others. Some a LOT more. I made molds for plastic products for decades. If I listed a few of the products the tools I made or helped make, most of the people here would recognize at least some of them. Some of the work we did for toy companies most everyone would recognize.

This is a good country. And given the structure of our government and the population and history, we have been extremely lucky to live here. The world is and always has been a very tough place for many. We are no exception in most of that but we’ve done a lot to make things available to at least most everyone. There are exceptions, some of which need to be and some that would do better with less concept of need to be. But humanity often gets in the way. At least part of humanity anyway.
