From indefatigable rescuer Satby:
One of the hardest situations we encounter as rescuers is the pets remaining after an older person passes away without making arrangements for the surviving pets. I think people assume their families will take them, but in most cases that’s not true.
Anyway, locally, a 92-year-old woman who was a member of the UU church here passed away. Her daughter, up from Texas to wrap up her mom’s affairs, is unable to take mom’s four cats back to Texas because she already has three of her own. Our rescue and other rescues in the area are full, so these cats WILL be euthanized if we can’t find a place for some or all of them.
They are:
* A bonded pair — brother & sister tabby cats, 7 1/2 years old. Must be adopted together but not
necessarily with the others.* A tortoiseshell female, 7 1/2 years old
* And a Siamese female, 13 years old
I am willing to drive to meet anyone in the three-state area of IL, IN, or MI if they might be able to adopt any of these cats. The house is sold and the drop dead date is September 29.
I’m trying to get pictures and vet records, but given the age of the owner the records could be missing or non-existent.
Hoping we can at least save one if not more.
Please share, and if you have any suggestions, leave a comment or send me an email.

Good luck!

And an update: pictures were sent to Anne Laurie so they’ll be added at some point. The cats are all in the process of having updated vaccinations, all are indoor only, and all are spayed or neutered. None have health issues. There’s also an outdoor cat the mom had been feeding and the daughter has continued to feed, he’s an orange tabby, very friendly and obviously dumped. He will be neutered next week.
satby
@Old School: we’re going to need it.
Everyone: please make arrangements for any pets you have in case something happens to you. This is always the worst, because owner surrenders are euthanized first if shelters are full. Ours is the 4th rescue she contacted.

@satby: How great you are.
Once you get pics you could make Twitter/ bsky posts. Of course, there are 10 million others, but you never know. Maybe darth will like the story.
Will happily retweet.
Maxim
Way out in California and also have a house full of cats, but can chip in for expenses if needed. Fingers crossed that all of them can find homes.
Pink Tie
Where is the daughter located in Texas? Could any of the kitties ride down?
satby
@sab: ok, let’s see what turns up! The senior girl is only 13, she should have several good years left, but is at greatest risk of all, just in case you’re inclined 😉
@Pink Tie: not sure, I’ll ask! Is there one (or two 🤞) you’re particularly interested in?
satby
And while AL is not on right now I did get pictures and shared them to this post’s link on Twitter here

Kitty 1 – #1 and #2 are siblings who need to stay together?
Solomon is friendly to all but not a lap cat (per the daughter, who he’s only known for about 2 months without his mom around)..

Kitty 2 – Echo
#1 and #2 are siblingss who need to stay together?
Echo is shy initially,

Kitty 3 – Bunny
The tortie is Bunny, very playful and sweet.

@satby: If you can identify kitties 1-3 based on their photos, i can add names and descriptions in with the pictures.
If there was a 4th picture, I didn’t see it.
satby
@WaterGirl: Twitter did something weird and put it below one of the other pictures. Looking up names now.

I’m much farther away, (Seattle area), but if there’s no interest in the tortie girl I would look at transport for her to get here.

@WaterGirl:
One of the four cats is the 13 year old Siamese, and none of the 3 pix are of a Siamese. The third one is the tortie, so the first two must be the two siblings.
satby
@lowtechcyclist: good deductions!
Had to plug in my phone.
The siblings tabbies are Solomon on top and Echo below with the white bib. Echo is shy initially, Solomon is friendly to all but not a lap cat (per the daughter, who he’s only known for about 2 months without his mom around)..
The tortie is Bunny, very playful and sweet.
When the Siamese picture shows up, her name is Siri. She’s also friendly and somewhat playful, but was injured when found years ago and has an amputated tail and some missing teeth, and she was also declawed ☹️ so walking is occasionally uncomfortable for her. She’s 13.
And the bonus dumped cat is a very sweet and friendly orange tabby boy who just wants to be inside with people and a lap he can snuggle into. He’s guesstimated at about 1-2 years, based on the picture I suspect only 1. They’ve been calling him William and he’s getting neutered and shots next week.
satby
@cckids: we will keep that in mind, I’m flying out there on Oct 1 (surprise)!
cckids
@satby: Fabulous! I would also consider the orange boy-I had 3 cat siblings for between 15-20 years-two orange boys and a spicy tortie girl. Miss them all ❤️
satby
@cckids: aww! That would be awesome, so you have first dibs!
WaterGirl
@satby: Check my work in #11-13 and #23-24, please?
I looked again and I don’t see a 4th photo on twitter.WaterGirl

@lowtechcyclist: Thank you. I don’t know the names of the various kinds of coloring on kitties.

My 81yo mother just adopted a couple of cats. Before she did, she expressed concerns what would happen if they outlived her. I promised her I’d take them in and/or find them the best of homes.

Am too far away and can’t take any more cats but happy to help with funding.
satby
@Eric S.: that’s all that’s needed. And let’s face it, I’m not that old, and neither of my sons wants to split 10 cats between them if anything happens to me!
(They’ll all go to the rescue since 5 are already fosters)
Rileys Enabler
Am in Texas and loaded for cats (5) but will send financial support or drive as needed. They are all beautiful.
satby
@Pink Tie: Daughter lives in the Houston area.

@Rileys Enabler: thanks!

I can’t take any in but I am local-ish (Chicago) with a car. With some notice I could help with a delivery in northern IN, Southern MI, or Chicagoland.
MagdaInBlack
@WaterGirl: Aw, she’s built like my Siamese mix, Gordita. I’m sorely tempted but another pet is not in the budget. And dear lord, I’m gone 11 hours a day, not at all fair to a bring a new cat in and never be around.
Eta: in all fairness to Gordita, she is not as round as Siri
rikyrah
They are so cute🤗, and I hope we can find homes for them🙏🏽
satby
Ok, phone is dying so I need to go plug in. We seem to be off to a promising start.
Thanks everyone 😻
And please share if you know anyone who might want a new companion.

The kitties are delightful (especially the dilute orange tabby!). I would love to contribute to getting any or all of the five cats to their forever homes.
It’s a good reminder to consider care of pets when we can’t. My previous arrangement is in disarray because the person who would have found new homes for my darling cats has recently retired to Ecuador.
Percysowner
I already am fostering 3 senior kitties and I’m not sure I manage 4 cats. Admittedly one of the reasons I’m fostering instead of foster failing is that I’m 71 and if something happens to me, I don’t have to worry about where they will go. Plus finding someone who wants to bonded kitties is hard enough, let alone a senior bonded trio so I suspect they are mine permanently. I’m more than happy to pitch in for transportation if needed. I’ll ask my ex if he would take the Siamese. He isn’t big on Siamese cats, we had one that was very, very skittish and only loved me, but he also wants a declawed cat and I won’t recommend any that aren’t already declawed to him.
Maxim
@satby: I shared the info with a friend who lives in Indiana. They are full up on cats but I asked if they could share.
satby
@Percysowner: let me know! I’m especially concerned about her because she’s oldest. Though she should still have 5-6 good years ahead of her, she’d be a great cat for a senior citizen like her.
satby
sab and Pink Tie, get back to me @ skinluvvers (at) gmail.com if you’re up for a new kitty and let me know if any especially speak to you!

I love Siamese. I am far away but I’m happy to contribute.

Too far away (Bellingham, north of Seattle) and house already full of cats, alas…

@satby:
Before I talk to my ex I have some questions about Siri. Can You email me or have email you? My ex can be picky and also impulsive, so he might not think about questions until the cat is here. He’s a good guy, but I want to do the spadework before I contact him. I’m not really familiar with emailing through BJ, so Instructions work.
