ICYMI, cat rescuer Satby is looking to save five cats from an untimely fate:
A 92-year-old woman who was a member of the UU church here passed away. Her daughter, up from Texas to wrap up her mom’s affairs, is unable to take mom’s four cats back to Texas because she already has three of her own. Our rescue and other rescues in the area are full, so these cats WILL be euthanized if we can’t find a place for some or all of them.
They are:
* A bonded pair — brother & sister tabby cats, 7 1/2 years old. Must be adopted together but not
necessarily with the others.
* A tortoiseshell female, 7 1/2 years old
* And a Siamese female, 13 years oldI am willing to drive to meet anyone in the three-state area of IL, IN, or MI if they might be able to adopt any of these cats. The house is sold and the drop dead date is September 29.
Hoping we can at least save one if not more.
Here’s some photos and further info:
All are indoor cats, all neutered or spayed, and by end of next week all but one (Bunny) will have had their shots and booster shots. Bunny will have her booster the following week.
There are a tabby brother, Solomon, and his sister, Echo. They are about 7 or 8 yrs old. They’re close with each other. Here’s Solomon:
This is Echo. These two are not that alike. Solomon is friendly with visitors, Echo does a vanishing act. Solly is highly intelligent and communicative. He can be affectionate, but doesn’t like a lot of being fussed over. Won’t get on your lap. He lets you know what he wants with meaningful looks. Echo turned out, after about 3 months, to be much more inclined to give head bonks and enjoys nuzzling and petting, and will lick your hand. Both love to play. They both have a goofy side.
Two others live separately from them on the 2nd floor. They’re Bunny, a Tortoiseshell, and Siri, a lynx point Siamese. Bunny is 7 or 8, and Siri is 13.
Bunny is very shy for a couple of months. She’s sweet, playful, cute and gentle. She was the kitten of a feral mom, and has a clipped ear, but was taken in right after being spayed. She apparently sustained an injury to her tail at some point- it shows its underside and lies along her back when she’s being brushed. That’s Bunny playing. She bats the toy with both paws at once.
Siri is somewhat special needs. My mom discovered her in the yard. She was injured. She later lost most of her tail. She has very few teeth left. Because she can’t raise her stump, and has impaired sensation in that area, she sometimes leaves the litter box with poop still there, and it drops somewhere nearby. Not a big deal to me, but to some people it would be. Also, my mother had her declawed, which makes walking uncomfortable. She’s overweight. But she’s very good-natured and likes to be petted. She plays, but needs to be encouraged. Both of these girls love to be brushed with a slicker brush.
Special bonus ‘outside’ cat:
There’s a cat no. 5, a year-old orange tabby, very affectionate, the lap-cat type, who had to have been abandoned. I think he would integrate quickly into most any household. He desperately wants to be indoors. I’ve continued to feed him twice daily and am worried about him, with winter coming soon.
I call him William. I’m having him neutered at ABC Clinic next week.
Some of our blessed jackals have tentatively volunteered to take in a couple of these orphans, but if you want one or more for your own household — or know someone who does — please leave a comment below, or send me an email!

Oh please let these babies find new homes 🙏🏽
Willing to chip in for transportation costs

Is it possible to send a check?

I’m getting ready to ask my ex about Siri. Couple of questions. 1) is she an escape artist or likely to try to get out. My ex has mobility issues and it can take a while for him to get out the door. I don’t want Siri going all Mel Gibson, yelling FREEDOM! and making a run for it. 2) Siamese can be chatty cats. Is she a talker? I just want be able to give my ex all the info when I talk to him. 3) We are in Columbus and neither of us can to Indiana, so if he can take her, I’ll need a convoy set up to get her here. I’m less concerned about transportation because I know the Jackels can help us figure something out.

Is William declawed? I have a dog that leaves my kitty alone, but I would not feel comfortable adopting a declawed cat. Also I live in Memphis.

HI Neighbor!
I’m in Lafayette and attend the UU church there. I am also associated with the vet school at Purdue and folks post cats and other critters that are up for adoption on their group site all the time. Send me an email describing these cuties and I’ll get them posted for adoption. Email is: [email protected]
satby
Anne Laurie, thank you for taking the snippets from last night and pulling them into a coherent story 😘
@eclare: the only declawed one is Siri, William is the outside boy. CCkids was interested in both Bunny and William, but I have to check into the logistics of taking two on the plane with me. If that’s not feasible, and you’re interested I’ll email you after I connect with cckids. Thanks!
@Percysowner: Siri is not an escape artist, she’s been an inside cat for 13 years. And she’s developed occasional discomfort (arthritis paws and back) walking from being declawed, so I doubt she’s much of a runner. We can arrange transportation. I believe the daughter did say Siri was chatty.
satby
@Capri: thanks! I will, though the only ones no one has mentioned are the bonded tabbies. Appreciate it!
I used to drive pet rescue transports between Lafayette and Kenosha, WS from my home in Chicago.

OT Mom Update:
I just got off a video call with her, she is doing well. They managed to excise the growth on her tongue during surgery. Waiting for the definite pathology results but the ENT surgeon who did the surgery is pretty sure that the growth is cancerous. But the prognosis looks good and she is recovering nicely.

@Capri: woot! someone from my home town!! :) Howdy howdy!
Man, I can’t believe the lady is over 80+ and taking care of 4 cats. I have 4 cats and it’s a lot of work!!
I hope these babies find new homes. I’m willing to chip in on transportation costs.

Wow, this is exactly Lav and Khush. Lav is the head bonking type and frequently has a lot of anxiety. The other one, Khush is the opposite and is affectionate and likes to do biscuits on you, but is not a lap kitty. Highly intelligent, and I think he can see beyond the veil. I got them as a bonded pair. Lav is a special needs cat, he’s always unkempt because of his anxiety.

@satby:
Thanks! Keep me posted.

@schrodingers_cat: Good thoughts for her.

@zhena gogolia: I appreciate it.

@satby:
I gave my ex the information and he’s going to look at the post and what you have on Siri and let me know what he thinks. If he says yes, I’ll find a way to get you two in touch to make arrangements. I hope he’ll want her, because he really could use a cat buddy.

I am in love with William and trying to persuade my husband that Toby needs a brother. If I succed, would there be any way to get him closer to Western Massachusetts? Unfortunately I can’t drive more than two or three hours maximum.
something fabulous
Hey! I am also involved in rescue out here in LA, where we’re also full-up, but I feel compelled to give a sales pitch for the tabbies! :)
So hoping for the best for all these sweet babies!! THANKS for doing this for them!!
Kristine
@schrodingers_cat: Best wishes for your mom.

Transportation can always be arranged. All it takes is money. (And Satby doing the hard work to set it up, of course…)
satby
@zhena gogolia: thank you zhena! Email me at skinluvvers (at) g mail for com. We’re going to need to cover some transportation costs for sure!

@satby: Sent.

satby:
I promised to adopt the old one. My husband is horrified but also the bonded pair. He never met a cat he didn’t like.
sab
@schrodingers_cat: So glad she is doing well.
sab
We are 4 .5 hours by road from South Bend Indiana.
MazeDancer
@sab: Wait – You are taking 3? If so, you are getting many blessings for life.
sab
@sab: I have three stepkids. The oldest dumps pets on us. The youngest takes in all pets. A dog, some cats and a rabbit.
sab
@MazeDancer: Only if satby lets me.
schrodingers_cat
@sab: Thanks. Yeah it was a relief. I haven’t been able to sleep the past few days.
sab
@sab: Possibly she has them placed less than a four hour drive from new home
SW
We’ll need an update when you have the time 🥹
MazeDancer
@sab: How much can transport be that close by? Hoping for best.
Scuffletuffle
Haven’t read the comments yet, but would be happy to take anyone who can’t find another home.
Manyakitty
@schrodingers_cat: so glad she’s getting good care. All the best for her!

I checked my mailbox today, and there was a Dorothy A Winsor book preordered at least a week before its publication date. All the way from the UK. Definitely worth preordering just from the timeliness. And the cover is excellent (and scary.)
Jane2
@schrodingers_cat: A good prognosis must be a huge relief. All the best to you both.
satby
@schrodingers_cat: Oh, that’s good to hear! My best wishes to your mom!
satby
@sab: Thanks, got you. I think if you could take the bonded pair that would be awesome. They’re the only ones no one has expressed interest in (up to now). Would that work for you?
Edit: I do want to wait for Percyowner’s friend’s reply, because Siri, the older one, has only had to deal with one other cat, Bunny. The pair is kept separate because Solomon was too rambunctious for the older cat.
satby
Ok, right now tentatively I have
1 the tortie Bunny spoken for by cckids in Seattle (also would take William if no one closer would, eclare is closer and I need to check if I can take two cats on the plane)
2 William looks placed at this point, just sorting out who and how well I can get him there.
3 Percyowner’s friend may be a perfect fit for the oldest kitty Siri, we’ll see. Older cat, older owner would be her sweet spot.
4 sab has stepped up for several and will probably take the tabby siblings ❤️
This is a MIRACLE if it all works out!
And anyone who still wants / needs to rescue a cat, our group is overflowing. Including Indycat’s very sweet tripod rescue Blondie, who I want to be sure goes to the best home after the year he’s had. Just let me or Anne Laurie know.
satby
@Scuffletuffle: Where are you located?
satby
@something fabulous: Thanks! Good luck to you guys. Do you transport north ever? Metro areas where TNR and Spay/Neuter has been a success sometimes can take overflow from areas south.
satby
@Liminal Owl: email me, you should still have it 😉 I might have 💡 s
Indycat32
@satby: this thread is probably dead but please someone adopt Blondie. He’s the sweetest cat ever and a first class snuggler.
Lyrebird
@Indycat32: Maybe when y’all put up the next update, e.g. passing the hat for transportation costs, you can put in a link for the rescue itself.
I’m not in a good position right now to take on any new mouths to feed, but I am rooting for Blondie and the rest!
satby
@Indycat32: we’re working on it but are being picky for that very special guy!
