This is fantastic! Have been reading Steve Benen since back when he was blogging at the Washington Monthly.

I’ll be there, and will send you an email. This is great!!

I will think of y’all while I am in the Hospital (procedure 10/18, discharge on the 20th or 21st).
I will watch the playback if playback is available on Zoom (I have two weeks of rest; much reading and music involved).
RIP, James Early Jones. I still tear up at Field of Dreams (but I’m a guy so tearing up for a baseball movie is AOK).
WaterGirl
@Dangerman: We will record it just for you!
Glad you get out of jail just a day or two later.
WaterGirl
@Dangerman: I tear up at Field of Dreams, too. Always makes me think of my dad.
Tearing up right now, in fact.

In hopes my library gets the book before then–I’m first in line for it. Put me down & I’ll send an email.

@WaterGirl: I highly recommend:
If You Build It
Also recommend Costco supply of tissues; hell, have a pallet delivered, just in case.
WaterGirl
@Dangerman: I will have to think about picking that up.

@Dangerman: I hope your procedure goes well!
Yes, James Earl Jones was a great presence.

I am interested, and I hope I can make it.

@WaterGirl:
I love that movie very much. I once spent a day with the author (W. P. Kinsella) of the book (Shoeless Joe) on which the movie was based. He was a Canadian writer who was doing a mini-residency and evening lecture at a nearby university, so it was work — but happily, I was already a huge Kinsella fan and had read just about all of his fiction, much of which had a baseball theme — so it was really a pleasure from beginning to end. Good writer, wonderful novel, terrific movie.

USA Today’s Rex Huppke had a good rant:
Trump is 78 and barely coherent. Where’s everyone who questioned Biden’s age and fitness? Where are the headlines screaming: ‘Deranged old man peddles nonsense while threatening violent deportation of immigrants’?
Maybe railing against the failing, flailing mainstream media is a fool’s errand but it does seem after Parker Malloy’s article in which the term “sanewashing” was debuted, there has been a firehose of criticism of and disdain for the false equivalence and lack of journalistic standards. Will it be enough for normies and semi-normies to take notice?

Well, I am kind of square but I’ll be there — looking forward to reading & discussing the book.

@Dangerman:
Oooh, that looks yummy. Will have to order it.
And let me add my contralto coo to the chorus of well-wishers! I hope your procedure is as uneventful as can reasonable be expected and that you’ll be back commenting in no time.

@Sure Lurkalot: I love “sanewashing” because it’s so pithy and true.
Hungry Joe
@SiubhanDuinne: I got to interview Kinsella back in my newspaper days, sometime around — and I’m really guessing here — the early or mid 1990s. He was living in a small but nice condo (or apartment?) in Palm Springs, right at the edge of town, practically up against the base of Mt. San Jacinto. He was kind of a small guy — as I remember him, anyway — soft spoken, friendly, and not in the least impressed with himself.
WaterGirl
@Athenaze: Please send me email if you want the zoom link.
WaterGirl
@SiubhanDuinne: So jealous!
WaterGirl
@Hungry Joe: @SiubhanDuinne:
I think we should try to get him to come talk to us!
SiubhanDuinne
@WaterGirl:
If only he hadn’t died in 2016….
SiubhanDuinne
@Hungry Joe:
I remember him as just normal-average height, but very slightly built. Not painfully thin or fragile, just not an ounce of unnecessary bulk. Very nice guy indeed, a little bit shy even, and as you say, not the least bit impressed with himself.
WaterGirl
@SiubhanDuinne: Seance?
Baud
@WaterGirl:
This really is a full service blog.
WaterGirl
@Baud: We do what we can. :-)

I will email you an RSVP this evening.

I’ll email tomorrow. I’m interested, but my life is so crazy right now, I’ll never know what I’ll be doing at any given time at this point. But I want to be there!
WaterGirl
@geg6: I hope things settle down soon.
When is your last day at work? I know that’s only one piece of it, but every little bit helps.
Send me the RSVP when you can, and I’ll send out the link closer to Oct 19. And you’ll make it if you can. :-)
