      Yup…and this is why this format is smart. On the one hand I wish it was on the broadcast nets, but also it’s reaching the audience she needs and not allowing the MSM to make the narratives they’ve been trying to make against her.I also love that she has segments with celeb guest asking questions, because the celebs brings the views!!! If not the young folk, then the age range of folks who do follow and lsiten to celeb blogs and mags and entertainment.

      Just got off; didn’t realise folks were chatting about it here or I would have used a different device. The 90 minutes went by really quickly, and it was a nicely-balanced mix of pathos and upbeat, celebrities and ordinary folks, politicians and constituents. Kamala continues to impress with her easy mastery of the issues and ability to talk peer-to-peer with anyone. I’m not a big Oprah fan — she can really get under my last nerve in short order — but I must admit she was the absolutely right person to host tonight’s event.

      I heard Sec Pete on some talk show, and he said Republicans want freedom from:  from paying taxes, from regulations, from gun laws, etc.  Whereas Democrats want freedom to:  to live in safety, to love who we love, to have health care regardless of job/income status, etc.  I wonder if that is where Harris got the idea.

      @SiubhanDuinne: I know folks love to hate on Oprah, and I tend to let that go (having said that, compared to many crappy billionaires, hatred of Oprah really sticks in my craw…cause there are worse folks), but Oprah was #1 in daytime for a reason and the heir apparent to Barbara Walters for sit downs.

      She def knows what she’s doing and how to do it well!

      the issue I’d say is NOT folks “standing their ground” for real threats, but it’s when they do so and there was no threat jsut bias and prejudice and there being no consequences when it’s an obviously racially or motivated by bias

      She is repeating the same message that she gives in her stump speech in her responses to the same questions; it’s called campaigning. Of course she knows what she wants to say before she opens her mouth, unlike Trump. She drives her message home by repetition.

       USA Today  KNOXVILLE, Tenn. − The highest peak in the sprawling Great Smoky Mountains National Park is dropping the name of a Confederate general in favor of its Cherokee name “Kuwohi.”

      The U.S. Board of Geographic Names this week approved a formal request by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. The effort was started in 2022 by band members Mary Crowe and Lavita Hill, who called the 6,643-foot peak “spiritual and sacred.”

      “Kuwohi is significant to our people,” Hill told the USA TODAY Network. “This is where our medicine man came, this is where our healers and spiritual leaders came to pray and to get guidance from the creator.”

      The Cherokee first settled the mountain thousands of years ago, and the name they gave it translates to “the mulberry place.” In 1859, geographer Arnold Guyotthe surveyed the mountain and named it Clingmans Dome after Thomas Clingman, a senator from North Carolina who would soon serve as a general in the Confederacy during the Civil War.

      The mountain, however, has always been known as Kuwohi to the Cherokee people and is visible from the Qualla Boundary, the home of the band.

      “This significant moment honors our ancestors and strengthens our connection to this sacred land,” Cherokee Chief Michell Hicks said in a written statement.

      Exactly. I’d much rather we didn’t have so many guns in this country, but if you feel you need one to protect your home, that’s the last thing I’m going to object to.

      The “castle doctrine” in its basic form was not unreasonable. Extending it to a right to shoot anywhere you feel threatened, and eliminating the requirement that you had to attempt to retreat, is just insanity, a license to kill for assholes.

She did not proactively disclose her alleged relationship with Kennedy to New York magazine and the outlet only recently learned of it, according to people familiar with the matter. The alleged relationship did not begin until after a November 2023 profile she wrote on Kennedy had been published, a person close to Nuzzi said. The person close to Nuzzi added that she did not use Kennedy as a source while covering the 2024 campaign. A second person familiar with the matter said the relationship is thought to have started around the new year.

      I didn’t like Nuzzi’s work much anyway, but like…if you are this stupid, you do not deserve to be in a job where you are essentially explaining things to people.

      Fox News has fired “Hannity” executive producer Robert Samuel following an internal probe of sexual harassment claims, Brian Stelter reported Thursday in his “Reliable Sources” newsletter.

      I don’t think Harris’s thing about “I shouldn’t have said that” was purely about being a Democrat who shouldn’t talk about using guns or home-defense being an unpopular idea with Democrats. It’s tricky saying some perfectly reasonable things when you’re a woman, and it’s tricky to say those same reasonable things when you’re a black woman (for additional and nearly opposite reasons). That soothing may have been her natural non-politician learned reaction to accidentally saying anything that could be construed as aggressive.

      Displaying some embarrassment immediately after might actually make it play better with many people than it otherwise would have, even with gun owners who agree with the self-defense sentiment. Plenty of liberals are still biased about what is permissible for women to express unabashedly.

      (+ Bonus points for comedy. Everyone seems to find the whole bit amusing and endearing.)

      My wife came home from the school today in tears. She has been talking to all of these afghanistani refugees. Her heart just breaks because these poor parents. They’ve come here. They have no clothes, nothing warm.

      Whatever they got back from Afghanistan that’s all they have. We are trying to figure out how we can make sure when the winter months come, that they have warm clothes.

      They have limited  clothes for the kids that they have some way to survive the coming months. They’ve come all the way from Afghanistan as refugees and it’s so hard for them. They don’t know the language. They’re trying to survive.

      So we are trying to take up a collection. Trying to get clothes trying to get things that they can use so that they can survive for the next coming year. It’s so hard for these kids. They tell her that oh we don’t need anything. But their parents they’ve got a lot of concerns.

      Maybe later we could talk about how we could find some way to help these Afghanistani refugees?

The first one that I saw from this person was showing Cal Bears getting off their plane to Tallahassee holding prominent “Critical Race Theory” textbooks. Absolutely brilliant trolling.  The “Woke Walker Stadium” photo, with the entire FSU stadium in Pride colors/flags was also good. The move to the ACC is ridiculous in many respects, but the enhanced visibility provided by ESPN has some benefits.
