Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

Let’s Be Sure I Didn’t Miss Any Sex News

I was out of signal for a couple of days, so I missed all the different ways that some Republicans and Republican-enablers acted out sexually.  Let’s see if I’ve caught up:

  • Mark Robinson, candidate for Governor in NC, admitted to jerking it to trans porn, being a “black Nazi”, but even though Republicans really, really want him to quit, he’s going to keep jerking it on the ballot until the election.
  • Olivia Nuzzi, “journalist” sexted RFK Jr. during/after the time she was writing stories about him and also stupidly tweeting about the election.  She was engaged to Ryan Lizza, who was fired from the New Yorker for an inappropriate sexual relationship.  She’ll be on Fox News or writing for the NY Post in a few days, I’m sure.
  • A court filing in one of Matt Gaetz’ legal entanglements says that he attended a sex party with a 17 year-old high school junior.  This happened in 2017, so Matt was but a wee lad of 35 at the time.

That was yesterday, right?

While I’m on the subject of partners, imaginary or real, in-person or virtual, does it strike anyone funny that the spouse of one of the members of the Republican ticket is nowhere to be seen, and that the other member of the ticket doesn’t seem able to mount an honest defense of her against racial slurs from his running mate?

Let's Be Sure I Didn't Miss Any Sex News

Edited to add:  Chris Rufo!  Forgot he was on Ashley Madison (allegedly).  Thanks to fancycwabs in the comments, who also helpfully pointed out TN Congressman Mark Green’s alleged affair (came out a few days ago) and Laura Loomer (also a few days ago) and possibly some Trump/Diddy entanglement.

It’s already been amply illustrated by now, but boy is J.D. Vance bad at this! It’s kind of stunning, especially with Waltz as an example of how it is properly done. Similar to Kamala and DonOld, of course.

I admit to being intrigued by the story of the Sheriff killing the judge in Kentucky.

Read a story this afternoon that the Sheriff was under investigation for not investing the possible sexual assaults of a deputy that took place in the judge’s chambers.

JD Vance is bad at politics because he went from a zero to Senator in one jump.  He won the nomination in a very crowed field with 32% of the vote, meaning 68% of the primary voters rejected him.  Since the Republican nomination was, for all intents and purposes, the Senatorial election he went on to win 53% to 47%.  He’s yet another incompetent Republican, so deep in a hole he can’t see sunshine.

Many years ago, a Democratic friend of mine argued that while both parties have sex scandals, liberal sex scandals tend to be boringly ordinary whitebread stuff (“Bill Clinton cheated on his wife with another woman”), while conservative sex scandals tended to be the weirdest shit, if not outright illegal.

(At the time, the sex scandal in the news was “a Republican politician wanted gay sex, so he did what any normal person would do if they wanted gay sex: went to an airport men’s room and engaged in some sort of foot-tapping courtship ritual with the guy in the next stall who turned out to be a cop.”)

To put it mildly, not much has happened since then to invalidate his thesis.

Not to shame anyone for their kinks, but… oh, who am I kidding.  The entire GOP exists to shame (and prosecute, and jail, and execute) people for the wrong kinds of sex.  I don’t give a shit if it’s dished back out to them.

Also, speaking of the Klan — as I posted in a previous thread, Mark Robinson talking about how he’d like to join the Klan if they allowed Black folks to join is I think way more important than talking about the “Black nazi” stuff.

In NC the Klan is way more real than “nazi” which is an overused word and a bit abstract for folks. People should be calling out Robinson and Trump as wanting to bring back / be part of the Klan. Robinson said it, and Trump endorsed him. In Springfield the Klan is out in full force putting out their message. This is way more powerful messaging for “we’re not going back”.

I agree, but also I’m thinking from the perspective of generational history and how language is used. You hear people say that person is a ” nazi” — like “soup nazi” or “parking nazi” or whatever ordinary thing. The word has meaning in context but not quite the same as the Klan.

In Europe, the Nazis completely upended the whole continent. There’s a deep history in the literal soil. The same is true with the Klan in the US. That generational visceral reaction to the Klan is something that hasn’t gone away — I bet most moderate Republicans have a very negative view of the Klan.

@rikyrah: From the CBS News story.

We know that it was an argument between the two that led up, but what exactly transpired prior to the shots being fired, that’s still things that we’re trying to get answers to,” Kentucky State Police Trooper Matt Gayheart told reporters Thursday night.
    . . .
The sheriff who allegedly shot and killed a rural Kentucky judge in his courthouse chambers was accused in a federal lawsuit of failing to investigate allegations that one of his deputies repeatedly sexually abused a woman in the same judge’s chambers. Letcher County Sheriff Shawn M. Stines has been charged with murder in the first degree in Thursday’s shooting.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Stines, 43, shot District Judge Kevin Mullins multiple times following an argument inside the courthouse, according to Kentucky State Police.

Mullins, 54, who held the judgeship for 15 years, died at the scene, and Stines surrendered without incident.

Just what the two men were arguing about wasn’t immediately made clear.

“We know that it was an argument between the two that led up, but what exactly transpired prior to the shots being fired, that’s still things that we’re trying to get answers to,” Kentucky State Police Trooper Matt Gayheart told reporters Thursday night.
    . . .
Stines was deposed on Monday in a lawsuit filed by two women, one of whom alleged that a deputy forced her to have sex inside Mullins’ chambers for six months in exchange for staying out of jail. The lawsuit accuses the sheriff of “deliberate indifference in failing to adequately train and supervise” the deputy.

The now-former deputy sheriff, Ben Fields, pleaded guilty to raping the female prisoner while she was on home incarceration. Fields was sentenced this year to six months in jail and then six and a half years on probation for rape, sodomy, perjury and tampering with a prisoner monitoring device, The Mountain Eagle reported. Three charges related to a second woman were dismissed because she is now dead.

Stines fired Fields, who was his successor as Mullins’ bailiff, for “conduct unbecoming” after the lawsuit was filed in 2022, The Courier Journal reported at the time.

one – said judge filmed said assault in their chambers or watched as a non-participating member

two – said judge was using “some leverage” against the Sheriff in order to coerce his daughter into sex.

Two Wetsuits and a Dildo– A quip often used to make fun of the hypocrisy of the Republican family values crowd and various other religious scolds, which finds its genesis in the police report following the death of a Alabama Baptist Minister Gary Aldridge in which his corpse was found wearing, among other things, two wetsuits, rubberized underwear, with a dildo inserted in the anus. Bullshit. I have mixed feelings about Newsom, mostly because he seems to want to try to tack center more than I’d like, but he is in no way, shape, or form a MAGA. He didn’t have to marry queer folks in SF when he did. He didn’t have to wholeheartedly support abortion rights in this state, or make CA a sanctuary state for trans folks seeking medical care and dignity. And not for nothing, but while some other CA Dems had the knives out for Biden, Newsom absolutely didn’t, and he immediately backed Harris once Biden dropped out.

Two wetsuits is unimaginable, I mean, really?!?

The goal was (one presumes) sub-lethal auto erotic asphyxiation, including rubber fetish, with a miss on the sub-lethal part. One wonders whether he had done this previously.
Charles Stross, science fiction writer, wrote a near-future police procedural after that incident (“Rule 34”), where police use “two wetsuit job”, referring to this incident, to describe messy investigations in this general category.

@rikyrah: The Democratic bench will be even deeper by 2032. I’m thinking of three fairly young Representatives who will be Senators by then; one of them after serving as a Governor first, I think. There will be others.

I won’t name names. For one thing  there will be plenty of time to talk about them after Kamala Harris wins reelection in 2028. For another, only one of many good prospects will be the One, and I want to value strong Democratic politicians for the good work they do in other important jobs.

But you are right; we have a strong bench.

@Sister Golden Bear:  I think TCFG actually recognizes Robinson would be a very vindictive enemy and is actually terrified of him.

Donald Trump is facing calls both from his allies and from within his own campaign to pull his endorsement from scandal-plagued North Carolina gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson,” NBC News reports.

“So far, however, there are no plans for the former president to formally drop him.”

“There are pockets of advisers within the Trump campaign who have quietly been urging him to withdraw his endorsement of Robinson, but so far those requests have fallen on deaf ears.”

    September 21, 2024 at 7:54 am

    @Suzanne:

I am such a nuts-and-bolts person that the part of that story that just blows me away is that he managed to get two wetsuits on! How did he do that?! Like, doesn’t the second one stick to the first one?

I have actually gone scuba diving in a wetsuit, so I can answer that, sort of (I never tried to put on a second wetsuit atop the first). Wetsuits can be rather sticky, yes, to both skin and the Speedo one wears underneath.

In general the answer is “cornstarch and zippers”. You sprinkle this on the inside of the part of the wetsuit you have to slide over something (e.g., the foot section). You unzip as much as you can elsewhere. Then you kind of layer it on and zip.

There are still a lot of issues here, especially for those whose bodies do not come in a standard S/M/L/XL. This is much worse for women, whose bodies tend to have much more variation than men’s, but there are men for whom “off-the-rack” simply doesn’t fit. In all such cases, one may order a custom wetsuit. These are not cheap. If you can get away with a single custom part (upper or lower only), that helps.

Whether the guy in question ordered a custom wetsuit (or two!) I have no idea.

  178. 178.

    September 21, 2024 at 8:08 am

@Gin & Tonic: Don’t use oil (even mineral oil) with a wet suit, it’s bad for the neoprene.

Aside from the recommended corn starch method (I never tried it myself), people also use talc, or (apparently) even Pam cooking spray. I’d feel a bit nervous about the last if  there were any sharks about, they might think I’m offering myself up for their frying pans. 😅
