Chris Rufo, who Republicans congressman go to for scoops on like, kids using litter boxes or grilled chickens you want to argue are a cat, is so fucking stupid that he went on Ashley Madison to cheat on his wife.

Chris Rufo having been caught being registered on the Ashley Madison database is melting down and blocking anyone who debunks his lies pic.twitter.com/SOIh7V1Ma8

Political activist Lauren Windsor, last seen cajoling Samuel Alito into admissions against his own interest, seems to have found right-wing smear merchant Christopher Rufo‘s Ashley Madison account. Since many prominent twitter users are, to use the technical term, sick of Rufo’s sh*t, this was a nice little treat for them in this week’s bounty of right-wing pervert stories…
It's "supreme dishonesty" for Chris Rufo to claim a story has been debunked immediately after he blocked me for noting that the claim his email showed up in the Ashley Madison leak has in fact not been debunked. https://t.co/J7fJvdzqjO pic.twitter.com/8IOGb6syJL

In a night of bizarre news we should celebrate the wins, like bigoted prick Chris Rufo getting found in the Ashley Madison database by @lawindsor. Here he is just getting started on the CRT panic he invented out of nothing but his sterling personality. https://t.co/XTRd5AaMIj

We have successfully frozen their brand – "Chris Rufo" – into the public conversation and are steadily driving up negative perceptions. We will eventually turn it toxic, as we put all of the various cultural insanities under that brand category. The goal is to have the public…

Does anyone think DeSantis will remove Rufo from the board of New College in Sarasota, or will he let him fester away like Bridget Ziegler?

Interesting, did not know that Rufo’s wife was/is an undocumented immigrant.

Things are going. Specialist team meeting Monday, where in theory, we will get a treatment plan. T alternates between bad days with pain, and okay days. Of course, the pain meds she has been proscribed, are contra indicated for the most part, so it’s T-2’s and gummies for the most part.

I can guess the answer to the question in the last tweet: DeSantis will keep the duplicitous bigot Rufo onboard and hope media attention wanes before there’s any blowback on himself. That’s what the sour kumquat does when corruption and hypocrisy among his FL GOP cronies come to light, which happens a lot. So far it’s worked out for him.

@NotMax I’ll hop in to the conversation you were having in the previous thread to say I enjoyed the Please Save My Earth OVA back in the day. It’s based on a 21 volume manga by Saki Hiwatari that ran from 1986-1994 that Viz released in English from 2003-2007. Many of the paperback volumes are extremely OOP but thankfully it’s available in digital from Viz, Amazon, etc for $6.99/volume. I’ve never read the manga but I would like to.

@Betty Cracker: Yep. Any change to Rufo’s status by DeSantis would be an admission that mistakes were made, which is considered a sign of weakness by these douchecanoes.

Vance told Tucker that his dog was a rent-a-dog given to him by the campaign so he’d seem relatable. So was he lying then or lying now?

Well good morning everyone! It makes me sad when there’s only one Anne Laurie post to wake up to overnight, but at least this one is a “best served cold” one.
Gretchen
People were saying that Vance borrowed that dog when he obviously didn’t know how to hold a leash. Maybe it’s just an exceptionally well-trained dog? I didn’t believe that anyone would be cynical enough to borrow a dog and try to pass it off as their own. But there he is laughing with Tucker Carlson about how the campaign got him a rent-a-dog to try and make him seem like a dog person. I should have known that if it was an exceptionally well-trained dog, he wasn’t the person who took the time and effort to do the training. But I really couldn’t comprehend the depths of cynicism to get a rent-a-dog to try to seem relatable, and laugh about it.

Open thread, I’m on S Whitehouse’s mailing list:
I just returned from three days of climate and political events across Florida’s three major media markets, and here are my conclusions:
1. It’s winnable! Our Senate candidate Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (“DMP”) is only one percentage point behind Republican Scott, who enjoys a paltry 37% voter approval.
2. Turnout will be great, aided by a reproductive rights amendment on the ballot that needs 60% to pass.
3. We have momentum. ‘Shy’ Democrats are coming out into the sunshine, seeing each other, and gaining confidence. By contrast, Trump display is way down.
4. Republicans have a big vulnerability: Florida’s property insurance crisis is affecting nearly everyone. We can show how fossil-fuel-funded Republican climate denial wrecked their property insurance. This issue lights up the room.
I was not in Texas, but it has similar flood insurance issues along its coast, and our candidate Collin Allred has been steadily closing on Ted Cruz and just got his first public poll showing him winning. The trajectory in both states is going our way!

For people who think the polls showing increased Black support for Trump is invented — I just saw a Black friend of mine post on FB, aghast that people she knows are still planning to vote for Trump after what he’s said about Haitians. Many echoes of that sentiment by commenters, all of whom were other Black women. So this is an anecdote but obvs they’re seeing some slippage in their community. We can make up those votes but we’re going to have to make them up. Harris does not start with all Biden’s voters plus.
Baud
@Princess:
I don’t think it’s fake either.
Gloria DryGarden
Heather cox Richardson s letter from last night covers the historical changes to the electoral college, and answers my question about how polls can show Harris ahead by 5%, and yet they appear tied in terms of the EC.
It’s clear, detailed, and sobering.

I want to hear more about that. It screams “mail-order bride” to me.

@satby: I accidentally saw about 15 minutes of it. I didn’t find it infuriating because I already knew everything in the part I saw. It was the part where he found out that Giuliani was a dbag and left him holding the bag (he got arrested). I never watch those shows so didn’t know it was a special report. I was wondering why there was this long show about Lev Parnas. Thank you for the information.
I do wonder ‘why now’, though. Does someone have a book out or something? It all felt like such old news to me. I knew all of the part I saw and it just made me angry again about how pretty much nothing has been done to stop Russian interference in our politics and government.
Yarrow
@Ken: I don’t think that’s the case. Her mother came here and she came with her since she was a child. Here’s a tweet that has a screengrab of her statement.

@Jay: Well, actually that fact has to be put into context: “Chris Rufo’s wife, who he cheated on with hookers through Ashley Madison, was/is an undocumented immigrant.” Context is important!

@Yarrow: Thanks. I’m still a little curious about how they met, and when he learned of her immigration status — because I know that’s one of the things that he thinks is very important, or at least it is when he’s in a position to punch down.
Tony G
@Princess: I’d like to be shocked by this, but I’m not. The essence of Trump’s ideology is not only racism but, particularly, hatred of immigrants (“aliens”). People can be and are manipulated into punching down on people who are deemed to be less American — less human — than they are. Since Haitian immigrants are designated to be subhumans, some black Americans can be manipulated into hating them — and therefore supporting Trump. The experience of my ancestors — and Rufo’s ancestors! — who migrated from Italy more than 100 years ago might be analogous. When the Italians first came here they were treated by Real Americans as being almost as subhuman as the blacks. A generation or so later they were finally accepted as human — and many of the Italian-Americans responded by hating black people just like Real Americans. Sickening but true.
Baud
@Tony G:
Also, misogyny.
Yarrow
@Ken: Yeah, that would be interesting to know. I don’t know anything more than what I just linked.
Yarrow
@Baud: Yep. There was a 5 pt drop in black men voting for Hillary Clinton vs that demo voting for Obama. Wouldn’t surprise me to see something similar now.
Baud
@Yarrow:
Yeah, but it’s not just the candidate. Dobbs opens up an avenue of oppression. It’s the same playbook as the one Republicans used to bleed the white working class dry by telling them they could oppress black people.
Yarrow
@Baud: Yes, there are many facets to it.

Because by the time you become someone so mean that you get your kicks from vice scolding, you are in a mindset where you are the good guy and it is your right to get away with anything. Also you’ve made it clear what is constantly on your mind, so good odds that’s the corruption you fall for.
The Thin Black Duke
@Liminal Owl: In November, every voter can be a superhero if they do the right thing.
Liminal Owl
@Frankensteinbeck: Yes, and also (or maybe just elaborating on your point): These are people who want the legal structure in place as a (theoretical) external barrier to fulfilling their own needs/urges, because they do not have the internal fortitude to act according to their own supposed values. And often because they believe those needs to be universal, of course. To take one obvious example: the arguments that legalizing same-sex marriage would imperil all marriages, or would legalize pedophilia and bestiality.
Kay
@Princess:
There was (and is) a lot of denial about it but Florida should have proved it to doubters – extremely diverse cities in Florida shifted Right. There’s just no doubt it happened.
BUT – pollsters adjusted models to account for it. The NYTimes poll (for example) starts with Trump getting 20% of the AA vote when he got between 9 and 11% in 2020 so despite some Democratic denial it’s already baked into polls and you don’t have to account for it.

Rufo did so much damage to public schools and so the country.
We see more and more kids come thru the social services and juvenile system who simply don’t attend school. No one is “homeschooling” these kids – their parents are either absolutely incompetent just as parents (let alone homeschooling) or working all day but according to the State of Ohio they’re “homeschooled”.
The kids are lied to, too. They’re given “standardized tests” that come from these rip off Christian publishing companies and they all score in the 90’s, then they get to a community college and are given a placement test and they are so behind they can’t even place them in ordinary remedial courses. The young adults cry when they find out. It’s devastating. They are so, so behind.
The Right did that, and to their own voters. My county is 75% Trump. That’s Rufo’s and Libs of TikTok’s legacy – a generation of Right wing kids who can’t read past a 3rd grade level or do anything past addition and subtraction and the times tables.
Kay
The kids who don’t go to school aren’t going to show up on national test score data either – they’re undocumented. They don’t take the tests public school kids are required to take. They only show up as a decline in public school attendance. No one is even going to pay attention to this until it hits critical mass and starts showing up in adults.
Enhanced Voting Techniques
That would be hilarious if it came out that Rufo tried to cheat on his wife on a dating ap and failed at it. And then, as per standard Conservative protocol, is when the real scandal on what he is really up to, come out.
Tony G
@Kay: That’s cute. The GOP actively ruining the education of their own base, while ruining the health of those same people by destroying Medicaid. Stupid sick people supporting the politicians who caused their misery.

Man, Rufo, you sure stepped in the critical race theory here, right? I bet your wife is about to critical race theory the fuck out of you. I just can’t believe you’d CRTICIAL RACE THEORY on flippin’ Ashleigh Madison, I mean, that’s so hideously, critical race theory-ly, EMBARRASSING for a man. You *do* present – okay, okay, don’t get all critical race theory on me, geez, I just wanted to be sure, because the only manly thing I’ve heard from that direction is dickishness, and a penis does not make the man.
(The sperm from the penis does… if it’s a Y chromosome sperm cell. And if all the correct hormones do the right dance during pregnancy – sex and gender are actually far more complicated than most people realize. )
karen marie
@TS: I read elsewhere that Republicans have 10% more voters in that group than Dems. I can only assume that factored into the decision.
mwing
I remember reading about the Ashley Madison thing when the data breach happened. It was bad! There were a couple guys who killed themselves.
But here’s the thing: The vast majority of guys who registered with that site never had any affairs as a result. Partly because most of them were just doing it out of curiosity- it was a very inexpensive, no-commitment thing to register.
But also because, it was a straight site and there were basically no gals there. The company even had a sort-of-secret office making up fake women profiles so it would look like there were more women there than there were.
So, to be fair to Rufo (I know, WHY????), he may well have registered with AM before he was married, and probably never really did anything thru the site because most people didn’t.
A normal person could just say that. But since he has decided to be a sort of public preening moralist, among other things, he can’t, so he’s now offering improbable explanations or just saying the story is fake news.
mwing
@mwing: Like I think at one point he didn’t know the date he had registered (2014) was part of the data dump, so said his kid had somehow done it, but his kid wasn’t born at the time.
