The blue mountain heading towards the sea is DJT (Truth Social).

Trump Media’s stock is now trading at $13.55 U.S. a share, down 83% from a peak of $79.38 U.S. reached shortly after the company went public via a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) in March of this year.

The red line is the S&P 500, which hit a record high today.  On March 1, it closed at 5098.  Today it is 5718.  That’s a 12% gain.

If history still exists after the election, this is going to be one of the many WTF parts of the last 8 years.

      Edit: that article is out of date; DJT closed down even further, at $12.15. Which is still overvalued by about $12.14999 per share.

      He holds 114.75 million shares. So if he gets $1 per share, that’s still $114.75 million for absolutely nothing.

      But, honestly, I’ve always assumed the plan is to “sell” his stock for general bribery. He was never going to get paid the market rate. Although, if he loses the election, it just might become worthless in both senses. At least I hope so.

      It’s not like he’d get nothing, but claiming that TFG’s share is worth 60% of $2+ billion is just flat out wrong and always has been.

      He can’t actually sell a large chuck of his shares without turning it into a penny stock.

      @Sister Golden Bear: I spent much of my childhood being exposed to a lot of religion, and it always impressed me how the JWs were spectacularly, remarkably, unbelievably, integrated.  They were the most racially equal white and black group I ever saw.  However weird the religious ideology, they were very earnestly so into their religion that race was obliterated.  For that, I gave them much respect.

      Assuming he can sell them at all.  Stocks don’t exist in a magical space where their value is an official number on a board, no matter how hard people try to pretend that’s how it works.  The value won’t just plummet.  I doubt there are enough people willing to buy.

      EDIT – I am reminded of NFTs and other crypto assets, where they would be ‘worth’ $50,000 because of some insider trades, but no one would actually buy them.  In that case, they only needed to find a few suckers, since they were making profit on nothing whatsoever.

      EDIT EDIT – The flip side is that if some super-wealthy corrupt asshole wants to buy $3 billion worth of Trump’s stocks, they can.

      It’s a weird scam, because the company that merged with Trump Media to make it valuable seems to have been a scam run on the legitimate investors who put their money in on it.  I’m surprised they aren’t suing.  They put their money in because they’d been given a list of company rules about what would be bought, and Trump Media sure as Hell did not match those rules.

As the son of a very good car dealer, I was stunned when I took, m my new car in for its first service and discovered Bernie’s first move was to make his customers pay a quarter for a cup of coffee. I spent 57k with Bernie and he couldn’t drag,his MBA ass out his office to say “Thank You.” Fuck him!

      @Jay C: Yup. The major shareholders and company officers of the underlying company need to be questioned by Congress. I frankly think this sort of transaction – give somebody a huge stake in some company for no work – should be flatly illegal.  IIRC, that’s how GWB got a large position in a sports team. No work, just a humongous gift.

      imo, gifts (all gifts, inheritances, gratuities to Supreme Court Justices, etc.) should just be taxed as current year income to the receiving party.

      Nebraska is flirting with changing the way they allocate their electoral votes to eliminate allocating one to each congressional district.  The goal being to deprive the Democrats of 1 EV that they would otherwise get.

      Am I the only one fantasizing that they succeed?  And then Harris carries the state, and the Republicans are deprived of 1 EV that they would otherwise have gotten,  FAFO

      Those would be the power-generating stations needed to keep the computer farms operating the blockchain calculations running, plus the immense banks of cooling fans needed to keep them from overheating.  Turns out the essential infrastructure for crypto is every bit as smokestack-intensive as conventional industrial plants.

      There was a point where Elon Musk could have bought all of DWAC (the company that became DJT when it did the SEC Shell Game) for $600M. Today it’s got a total market cap of less than $2.5B, which may still be more than Twitter’s value.

      Anyway, I remember right wing shills like Carol Swain buying shares of DJT when it was $60/share, the schadenfreude of them losing a ton of money is certainly something to celebrate.
