Do we like Stephanie Ruhle? I don’t watch MSNBC, CNN or any of the others, so I don’t really know.
About to start watching the interview now, I had it cued up so I can fast-forward through commercials, etc.
What’s everybody else up to?
West of the Rockies
I will watch on PST in a couple hours.
TBone
I’m watching with great interest. I do like Stephanie.
Paul in Jacksonville
I’d like her better without the perpetual smirk.
HumboldtBlue
TV blew up on me yesterday, damn thing was only 12 years old, so I’ll find clips online.
Meanwhile, if you need a hearty laugh, let this little Japanese child make you smile.
WaterGirl
@Paul in Jacksonville: Kamala or Ruhle
edit: You must mean Ruhle, but I don’t see it as a smirk, it feels like a controlled smile, to me. Can’t smile too much during the interview! :-)
Theron Ware
I do like the way Stephanie Rule completely OWNED Bret Stephens on Bill Maher’s show Ha!

@WaterGirl:
She has her good moments, but she also is prone to corporatesque bothsiderism.
Not as bad as others.
Wouldn’t call her a hack like Katy Tur now is, but yeah.
Hit or miss, but when she hits, it can be decent.
RandomMonster
Any link to watch it? I can’t get MSNBC live reliably…

The suspect threw an IED past the security station and it exploded.

Haven’t seen it yet. Gotta walk the monster.
But before I do, Dean Baker gives us 6 more reasons to hate the press. CEPR.net – My Six Favorite Untruths About the Biden-Harris Economy:
Worth a click.
Cheers,
Scott.

@WaterGirl: Ruhle’s +/- for me. She’s a finances/economics geek which is most likely why Harris chose her to follow her economics speech today.
Also, yay for us MSNBC fans that Harris chose MSNBC for her first in-depth interview since heading the top of the Democratic Ticket!
WaterGirl
@RandomMonster: It doesn’t appear t be on YouTube,
edit: wow, tons of commercials. Glad I could fast-forward through.

@RandomMonster: Kamala has the clips of the interview

Ehhhhh. Having A DAY.
Set my alarm for 5:00 AM to get up and go running. Was lying in bed, opening my eyes, stretching…… and then, BANG. At 5:05, one of my dipshit neighbors down the street decided to set off a firework. I (and others) thought it was a gunshot. Freaked me right the fuck out and I didn’t go running because I didn’t want to be out before dawn by myself.
Stressing about this hurricane. My cousin and his wife live on St. George Island and they have evacuated. It looks like their house will take a direct hit. My uncle and his wife live outside of Sarasota, and they are not evacuating. My uncle has Lewy Body Dementia and they can’t handle/figure out how to get out.
WaterGirl
@Suzanne: Oh yikes, that’s stressful.
HeleninEire
@HumboldtBlue: I like CAKE too!
Suzanne
@WaterGirl: Now the reports are that it will be a Category 4 at landfall. Erghhhhhh.

In the interview, when Ruhle read Kamala the creepy Trump statement about women, Kamala’s face reflected what we all feel. Disgust. Repulsion. When she finally spoke, I believe the first thing she said is that Donald Trump wants to punish women for making choices they rightfully should be able to make about their own bodies.
TBone
Stephanie’s commentary after the interview was good too, I thought.
HumboldtBlue
@HeleninEire:
Right?
Mike
I wish sometime Kamala would point out that Trump inherited a healthy, robust, growing economy from Obama compared to the shit show Trump passed on to Biden. For three years when things were on auto pilot, Trump looked OK.
Baud
@Mike:
Pretty sure I’ve heard her say that.
WaterGirl
@HeleninEire: Not liking CAKE makes someone almost as suspect as someone who does not like animals. Almost.
WaterGirl
I can’t decide whether today is a really slow day on BJ or if all my posts have been total duds. Maybe both!
HinTN
@Suzanne: St. George (Franklin County) had a mandatory evacuation yesterday at noon. Yeah, if you live there you don’t have to leave but EMS ain’t gonna respond. Hope your folks are safe. It’s gonna get rough.

Reminder PSA tomorrow (evening) is the Donald Sutherland celebration on TCM, beginning with M.A.S.H. at 8pm.
I wanted to see A Dry White Season again (a hearty fuck you to fElon Skum), but I’ll settle for any Sutherland I can get!
Rita Kempley of The Washington Post wrote, “A Dry White Season is political cinema so deeply felt it attains a moral grace. A bitter medicine, a painful reminder, it grieves for South Africa as it recounts the atrocities of apartheid. Yes, it is a story already told on a grander scale, but never with such fervor.”

Slow day. Hump day.

In for $25 on Arizona Candidates
thruppence
@TBone: Thanks. I’ll go program the DVR to pick those up. I lived in San Francisco when they remade Invasion of the Body Snatchers and while the movie is great on its own, their care in capturing that city in that moment was great. No (few?) stock establishment shots and then all L.A. soundstages. Really grounded for a movie of the fantastic.
TBone
@TBone: 🤬 from Adam’s war post above, President Zelensky speaking at the U.N.:
WaterGirl
@Percysowner: Thank you.
edit: You are the first donation toward the Candidate match!

@WaterGirl:
I hate cake. There are one or two very specialized exceptions, but otherwise you can have all my cake. I’d just toss it.
WaterGirl
@geg6: If I get your cake, then it’s fine if you don’t like it. :-)
What I hate is frosting. Nearly all frosting. I just scrape it off.
Exceptions: chocolate ganache and whipped cream frosting.
edit: and people ruin perfectly good brownies with frosting! What are they thinking?!?!!!
Congratulations on the 3-day countdown. Does this mean you already had your “party” day at the park or wherever you were going to have it ahead of time?
Another Scott
@WaterGirl: End of the fiscal year is upon us. Lots of firedrills. :-/
Thanks for all you do!
Cheers,
Scott.
Suzanne
@HinTN: Yeah, my cousin and his wife got out yesterday. Their house there used to be their second home (ahhh the things you can do when you don’t have kids)….. but during the pandemic, they both figured out how to work remotely full-time, so they sold their Atlanta house and now they live on St. George full time. I really don’t think that was smart.
WaterGirl
@Another Scott: I think of Sept 30 as the federal fiscal year. June 30 is the state fiscal year. And then there’s the calendar fiscal year on Dec 31.
Apparently no one has a March 31 fiscal year.
TBone
But, but, but
real buttercream frosting!
Beatty’s Chocolate Cake is fabulous, but with real frosting it is glorious.
Brownies need no such adornment.

WaterGirl
@Suzanne: I think that’s kind of ike what J. did. Sold the regular house and moved to Sanibel full-time. And then got totally wiped out.
What a loss, and scary, too.
Gvg
@WaterGirl: My aging pre diabetic body hates cake, especially frosting. I used to like it. Now, I can’t. Reaction is fast enough that I can’t enjoy it. Sad. I can sometimes get away with a little banana nut bread.
Abnormal Hiker
@WaterGirl: Canada does. In the UK it is April 5th or thereabouts. It somehow relates to changing to the Gregorian calendar. It was March 25 before that. Perhaps Tony Jay can confirm.
Princess
@WaterGirl: I think it’s been a slow day.
Auntie Anne
Just a wee update on my sick kitty. He’s doing much better; he “graduated” from the ICU to the kitty room tonight, and barring unforeseen circumstances, he should be able to come home Friday. I may actually sleep tonight.
Once again, thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the jackals who donated, shared, and sent positive thoughts our way.
Gvg
@Suzanne: Depending on where the live and how close to a flood zone the Sarasota relatives may be OK, except do the require powered equipment for his medical condition? Power loss is quite possible, and he should have a generator ahead of time.
You are supposed to figure out evacuations before you need them. Of course sometimes something goes wrong.
I live far enough inland that I am where other people evacuate to. Sometimes we have a ton of guests.
WaterGirl
@Auntie Anne: What a relief that must be!
Remind me of his name? I keep seeing “Chunk” but that’s not what I recall from the email you sent me.
Another Scott
@WaterGirl: +$100+ for AZ Candidates.
Thanks new angel, WG, and everyone in the trenches.
Forward!!
Cheers,
Scott.
Timill
@Abnormal Hiker: Correct: the end of the financial Year is March 25th Julian Calendar, as we weren’t having those greedy banksters demand a full year’s payments for 354 days rental…
Auntie Anne
@WaterGirl: I renamed him Chai when I adopted him. His foster and the rescue named him “Chunk” previously. IMHO, no self-respecting Siamese of any mix would be named “Chunk.” Elegant cats deserve elegant names. His sister was previously named “MC”. She was promptly renamed Miette, which suits her much better.

$50 to AZ candidates. The House seats are especially important.

@WaterGirl: Stephanie Ruhle. I watch her 2-3 times a week, and there is, imo, a definite smirk, from the left side of her mouth.
WaterGirl
@Another Scott: Got it, thank you!
WaterGirl
@Auntie Anne: Thank you for clarifying. Chunk sounded wrong to me. Hopefully Chai is back home with you soon.
