    The study, published in Nature, surveyed over 61,000 transgender and nonbinary individuals through multiple waves of questions distributed by The Trevor Project, analyzed the state-level impact of anti-trans legislation.

    Researchers determined that for transgender youth 13-17, suicide attempts rose by up to 72% attributable to anti-trans legislation. For those 13-24, the rise was up to 44% attributable.

    The increase is significant. According to The Trevor Project, 20% of trans youth in America have attempted suicide at some point in their life. Using the Williams institute estimate of 300k trans youth in America, anti-trans laws account for tens of thousands of attempts.

    @Sister Golden Bear:  These AG’s need some danger to fight.  They need a boogeyman.  Our corporate media has little interest in trans people or their issues and social media parrots the smears, see Springfield, Ohio.  Empathy is seen as weakness since it might threaten control and these snowflakes are terrified by rumors and fill with hatred at the drop of a hat.  I wish we had more people like Hillary Clinton’s acquaintance who went from white supremacist to saving people who were caught in the lies.

    @Sure Lurkalot: Many people mentioned at the time of the verdict that it is not uncommon for judgments to be reduced on appeal.  Indeed, the reduced bond should have also been seen as a sign that it would happen.  This could be Trump getting special treatment, but it is at least as likely that it is court system working normally.

    I abandoned my commitment to Unity and made the mistake of getting into the Tennis/Pickleball debate for our local courts.  Spoiler: as an instructor, player and lover of the sport, I am on team Tennis.  Build as many Pickleball courts as you want.  I’ll happily pay with my tax dollars.  Have fun.  I got nothing against Pickleball.  Hell, I’ll probably join you when my knees/hips can’t do tennis anymore.  But in places where tennis is still very popular and it’s always hard to get a court, leave our tennis courts alone!

    It’s the same “heckler’s veto” pattern we saw with gay people, and it’s a thing I particularly hate: interpreting the negative consequences of the stigma they created about a thing as a negative consequence of the thing itself. I’ve seen it all over for my whole life.
