Name your top 5 hardest working senators.  Bring receipts if you can!

Also, if this comment by Angry Staffer isn’t begging to be a rotating tag, I don’t know what is.  Too bad it’s so long.

The GOP has not only ceded the moral high ground – they’ve burrowed into a pile of shit at the bottom of the valley and built a fort there.

    This also isn’t just about Republican Rep. Clay Higgins showing his whole racist ass with his comments; this is about people hating Haitian immigrants because they are Black immigrants. They are here legally, so now racists are trying to figure out what hateful labels to use publicly since “illegal aliens” doesn’t quite fit.

    In today’s edition of “Trans people are the canaries in the coal mine”:

    22 Republican AGs Threaten To Make It Illegal For The AAP To Endorse Trans Care

    The letter, which was sent to the president of the American Academy of Pediatrics, attempts to use consumer protection laws to make it against the law to support puberty blockers. They threaten that endorsing trans care as beneficial may be illegal, and demands extensive internal docs.

    They could target abortion with this tactic as well.

    And yes, Republicans are trying to eradicate us, and sadly their efforts are paying off.

    Groundbreaking Study: Anti-trans State Laws Increased Suicide Attempts By 72%

    The study, published in Nature, surveyed over 61,000 transgender and nonbinary individuals through multiple waves of questions distributed by The Trevor Project, analyzed the state-level impact of anti-trans legislation.

    Researchers determined that for transgender youth 13-17, suicide attempts rose by up to 72% attributable to anti-trans legislation. For those 13-24, the rise was up to 44% attributable.

    The increase is significant. According to The Trevor Project, 20% of trans youth in America have attempted suicide at some point in their life. Using the Williams institute estimate of 300k trans youth in America, anti-trans laws account for tens of thousands of attempts.

    @Sure Lurkalot: I also need to reiterate my warning about reading too much into what is said at oral argument.  It may be meaningful.  It may not.  It may be, but not in the way you thought.

    @Omnes Omnibus:

    I thought that case was challenging for the state from the beginning. The sophisticated counterparties and the lack of harm. Along with the “everybody does this” defense that seems implicit in everything that asshole ever does.

    @UncleEbeneezer: Yes, this. Exactly. Build more pickle ball courts!

    But NOT adjacent to tennis courts. The BAP BAP BAP BAP of pickle ball play disrupts the semi- (and deceptively) quiet nature of tennis. As does the rowdy shouting and cheering of the participants. I’m sure it’s great fun, and a lot more power to you; I, too, will probably join you some day. But … distance. Please.

    They’ll probably just use the suicides as evidence that trans-ness is a Bad Thing you want to keep away from your kids.

    They already do.
