I was talking about this on twitter and thought would make a good post. At any rate, this year has really been a great year for haters. 50 cent and Kendrick Lamar really demonstrated that all of us have not hated anywhere near our full potential, but I will tell you someone else who is putting on a show this year- Liz Cheney.

That woman hates Donald Trump with a passion that is equal parts admirable and terrifying. She has made it her life’s work to make Donald Trump miserable until his dying breath, and she won’t stop there. I would not put it past her to hold a press conference after his funeral to correct the record if anyone says anything nice about him during the service. And then she’ll probably go after the kids and Kushner.

If you or I put half the energy she puts into hating Donald Trump into anything, think of what you could do. I could be the #1 pick in NBA draft if I devoted myself have as much to hoops as she puts into hating Trump. It’s fucking beautiful what she is doing. It’s a clinic on hating.

And the best part is it doesn’t cost Democrats a fucking thing. There is only upside. Yes, there are a few idiots who say GREAT EMBRACE A NEOCON, but we haven’t at all. Hell, half the Democrats when asked about her say “I don’t agree with a god damned thing that crazy lady thinks but I’m glad she’s voting for us.” We have not given up one thing, and Cheney does not give a shit and is out there campaigning and trashing Trump every chance she gets. It’s an amazing spectacle.

And the best part about it is that it makes people like Greenwald cry.

    ProPublica has a new story up about Trump Media.

    Former President Donald Trump’s media company has forced out executives in recent days after internal allegations that its CEO, former Rep. Devin Nunes, is mismanaging the company, according to interviews and records of communications among former employees.

    Several people involved with Trump Media believe the ousters are retaliation following what they describe as an anonymous “whistleblower” complaint regarding Nunes that went to the company’s board of directors.

    The chief operating officer and chief product officer have left the company, along with at least two lower-level staffers, according to interviews, social media posts and communications between former staffers reviewed by ProPublica. The company, which runs the social media platform Truth Social, disclosed the departure of the chief operating officer in a securities filing Thursday afternoon.

    ProPublica has not seen the whistleblower complaint. But several people with knowledge of the company said the concerns revolve around alleged mismanagement by Nunes. One person said they include allegations of misuse of funds, hiring of foreign contractors and interfering with product development.

    After the internal allegations about Nunes were made at Trump Media, the company enlisted a lawyer to investigate and interview staffers, according to a person with knowledge of the company.

    Then, last week, some employees who were interviewed by the lawyer were notified they were being pushed out, the person said. The employees being pushed out include a human relations director and a product designer, along with Chief Operating Officer Andrew Northwall and Chief Product Officer Sandro De Moraes. The person with knowledge of the company said Trump Media asked the employees to sign an agreement pledging not to make public claims of wrongdoing against the company in exchange for severance.

Greenwald would take it as proof that he’s right in claiming that The Elites (anyone not supported Trump, basically) are out to get the Voices of The People (Trump and his supporters, naturally).     @cain: I confess to be curious as to how that all plays out for her.  The G(r)OP even before TCFG was incipient Fascist, and I wonder if she can jettison the incipient Fascism (which would just lead her party back to the same place it is today) and  keep the “defender of the rights of property” bit.  I guess she’d need to really be open in courting Asian-Americans and other wealthy immigrant and nonwhite demographics, to people the party along well-off white people.

    I wonder if she’d do it.  B/c gosh it’d just be so much easier to go with nativism and such …. and end up back at MAGA.  Gonna be intereesting to watch, assuming that we aren’t busy whittling shivs in the camps to stab journos in the kidneys with.

    I probably disagree with Liz Cheney on about 98% of things, but I can still respect her for putting country over party, and doing so with such vehemence. And the fact that she knew — because for all her faults, she’s not an idiot — that being on the Jan 6 commission was gonna lead to her losing her House seat, and she did it anyway, because she knew right from wrong.

    Someone doesn’t have to be completely good to be better than someone who is completely awful. The enemy of my enemy can be my temporary ally.

    I worry I was unfair to her Dad when I thought he might not let us have another election. (And there are a million dead Iraqis who might wish to point out that there are worse things he might have done and in fact did do.)

    It makes me jealous having hated the man (Trump) for 40 years (this year 40 years from when I moved to NJ for grad school). Enough to have worked him into an example on unearned talentless wealth in a paper I never managed to publish 30 years ago.

    Coincidence? Well… yes, the two events coincided. But I don’t believe it was a *chance* coincidence.

    I do remember, during one debate, the subject of stiffing contractors came up, and he bellowed that they did a *terrible* job. Well… which *one* of them did this “terrible” job? Hm? He has an excuse that works for each, but falls apart “for all,” and he’s too stupid to realize it, so he just used it.

    Michael Cohen is definitely on the record that Trump’s magic number was 20 cents on the dollar for final payment. When they’d settle for one fifth of their hard-earned (literally), he’d settle and they’d drop the lawsuit.

    The courts aren’t well equipped to handle this sort of thing. If *HE* was suing *OTHER* people, courts might be able to sanction each lawyer he used until he ran out, but, they were suing him, see?  And each delay would be proper and lawful.  If the settlement occurs, and nothing has been entered into the public record, there’s no evidence of his wrongdoing, and, settlements might include NDAs, or, burned contractors might be seen as bitter failures, etc..

    He could probably have made a lot more money if he’d been interested in being a good businessman, but I seriously think he preferred cheating, even though it was less lucrative.

    In Canada, we have “Contractor Liens”. I learned quickly on, when you sign a contract, you take out a lien on the property. When you get paid in full, you pull the lien. The lien is against title, so they can’t sell or refinance with out “settling” the lien.

    In BC we can charge 36% per year  interest on the contract.

    I still have two “outstanding” liens, both with a Lawyer who stiffed me. One for a rental, one for a kitchen. The contracts were worth $62k, they are now worth $745K, the properties are worth $537K.

    It’s a passive system, they have to sue, you don’t have to respond.

    In most of the US, liens are “active” liens. They have to sue you for non-payment, which costs and courts always respond with “mediation” where they offer you 10 cents on the dollar.

    Here they are “passive” liens, where they have to sue you in court, and as a contractor, all you have to do is show up, no lawyer needed, with the contract, change notices, photo’s and a copy of the building code.

    X (formerly Twitter) has unsuccessfully challenged Australia’s eSafety Commissioner’s fine for allegedly failing to respond to questions about harmful content on its platform, particularly child sexual abuse material.

    The organisation argued Twitter stopped being a company when it merged with X Corp and any penalty process would need to be restarted.

    But how can they not at this point? The GOP base has no interest in reaching out to minorities of any kind. They’ve been proving it since the 2013 reach out to minorities “autopsy” that went nowhere. Sure, they’ll accept the random chauvinist or strongman-loving minorities who show up but the base’s views are clear. Those views being that the white man is large and in charge, and ain’t nobody else better be thinking they’re special. How does the GOP jettison that nativist base and keep the numbers to remain a viable political party?

    As a Wisconsinite, I 100% agree with this.

    My dad is a lifelong Republican. He’s voted 3rd party in 2016 and 2020. I’m trying to persuade him to vote FOR Harris this time, and I’m hoping Walz on the ballot will help.

    I have a campaign strategist cousin who works for the Uhleins. He told my very Republican uncle (his dad) to NOT vote for Trump ahead of 2016. Per my uncle, he left that line on the ballot blank.

    I’d prefer votes flip to Harris (-1 and +1, net +2), but I’m okay with 3rd party votes or just not voting the presidential line of the ballot (net – 1).

    Someone suggested that when the Regressive Party tanks that Liz will be in a position to take charge and run in 28 or 32.  If I were Pres. Harris, I’d offer her a plum ambassadorship where she is out of the way. Not a crucial one like Germany but a cushy one like  French Polynesia.

That could be 2 Bösendorfers or 2-3 Schimmels, or several Baldwins or Steinways*, but I’ve lost track of what those pianos cost now.

    I think the store went out of business as a result, because even going in and taking them out of the hotel(s) wouldn’t help the dealer much because then he’d have a bunch of expensive pianos sitting in storage that he’d have to pay his own vendors for.

    *Probably Steinways or Baldwins because TFG had never heard of the other two, and just forget about Yamaha and Kawai.

    @SomeRandomGuy: Okay, there’s disagreement. But on most points, you disagree only about implementation details (which are *super* important, mind you), *not* “disagree on everything.”

    I know it’s a dead thread, but this needs to be said.

    It’s kind of striking, and sad, how many people here seem to have bought in (consciously or not) to the Gingrich framing of “They aren’t our opponents, they’re our enemies!  Totally, irredeemably, evil.”  Then they listen to Liz Cheney and are supirised, startled, at how much they are on the same page, and how moved they were.

    Certainly there are some evil people on the other side.  Miller, Bannon, etc., as well as Vance, come to mind  But there are a lot more who basically merely disagree with us one some things.  Yes, they can get caught up in the moment and join in chanting dumb things.  But they aren’t evil, merely wrong.

    Every time someone on this side starts in on how all Republicans** are utterly evil, they slash the chance of turning around the majority of Republican voters who really are reachable.  The cult is not, but they are maybe half of the people who normally vote Republican.  The rest are an opportunity being missed. Or, often, outright rejected.  We blast the purity ponies who target our own people.  Never quite realizing how often we are doing the same.

    ** Usually, they mean Republican officeholders, and then primarily at the national level.  But they don’t bother to phrase it that way.
