If you missed the Family Stories thread from Saturday, you’ll want to read it. The stories in the comments are a real treat; so many of them were laugh out loud funny. This morning as I was washing my plate after breakfast, one of the quotes popped into my head and I couldn’t stop laughing. “Sons of bitches, wait for baby!” – uttered by a 3-year old!
dnfree
Way late, but this reminds me of a time we were driving slowly around some neighborhood looking for a friend’s house when a group of maybe 5- and 6-year-olds ran down the street at full speed. Hot on their heels was a smaller boy, maybe 3, running as fast as he could and yelling “Sons of bitches, wait for baby!”
Moving on…

Nominated.
And remember to yell SHUMDO when Harris wins.

Some amusing news; seems that Musk turning Twitter into a right-wing Xhole has, shockingly enough, resulted in said Xhole missing out on lots of political ad dollars.
Democrats dominate spending on political ads – except on Elon Musk’s X
The other part which is hilarious is that the overall amounts are so small. There are hundreds of millions of dollars being spent on online advertising, and Musk has so completely torched the readership of his plaything that even his ideological allies are only sending him crumbs.
Bupalos
MVP is so comfortable and smooth there. That’s just killer campaign work.
I saw the tic-toc lady there talking about inviting Trump on, and I just literally cannot imagine what that would even look like.
Steve LaBonne
So now that Harris is doing interviews all over the place, the FTFNYT headline is “Harris Will Appear in a Whirlwind of Interviews, Most of Them Friendly”. These fuckers no longer even bother to try to hide the game they’re playing. No, shitheads, she’s not going to come and kiss your owner / publisher’s, er, ring.
Old School
@Bupalos:
I picture Trump calling her a nasty woman asking mean nasty questions. So disrespectful.
And tariffs will solve everything.

@dmsilev:
It’s obvious that anyone watching Elmo, donnie, and the billionaire owners of American sportsball teams (can’t speak to outside US sport owners) who talk against inheritance/estate taxes are not arguing in good faith.
Steve LaBonne
@Bupalos: Especially given the tight time frame, I can’t imagine how the campaign could have been much better. Which of course speaks very well for her ability to run an organization.

Please let this decision bite Cruz’s re-election chances in his ass – HARD!!!

@Jackie: The Harris and Allred campaigns have been running ads already about abortion. Hopefully we’ll see an update for this in the next couple of days.

I’m not sure why the mainstream media isn’t talking about this: (Ok I really am sure I know why)
Trump refused disaster assistance unless it helped him personally. Shocking I know.

Wish I had something – anything – subversively humorous, insightful or cogent to inject at the moment. But no dice.

Meantime, in case you weren’t aware.
The Audacity of Krope
@Captain C: I’m so proud of any Dems who are spurning the FTFNYT. Not so much because of the paper’s hostility to them as politicians; they’re adults they can handle it; but because of the paper’s hostility to its readership.

@dmsilev: 🖤😍

@Baud: I also like the kid who was told not to touch anything on the Christmas table.

@Jackie: Ugh, that’s right. It’s the First Monday in October. They’re baaaaack…..

@dmsilev:
This points to why engaging on Twitter now seems fruitless. Musk has winnowed out so many of the reasonable voices that it’s not worth spending advertising money to reach the too few. The site exists to promote mis- and disinformation and many of the “tools” have been redesigned to quell any fact checking or dissent. Not to mention the bot problem.
Yes, it’s too bad there’s not one alternative but too many, still doesn’t mean even millions of people can do much about Twitter’s devolution into an echo chamber of lies and propaganda.
Nukular Biskits

That’ll REALLY own the stupid libtards there!

Woo Hoo! My ballot came today! I get to vote for MVP, Ted Lieu and Adam Schiff (as well as a bunch of “why-do-I-have-to-vote-for-this” ballot propositions).
For any LA County jackals, I’m attaching a link to the LA County Bar’s Judicial Elections Evaluation Committee for recommendations on the Judges. I used to serve on this committee back in the days when I gave a shit. So I know they are thorough and well-balanced. lacba.org/?pg=judicial-elections-evaluation
And, as always, I will be voting in the most Balloon Juice way possible: Dropping off my ballot in a collection box at the Dog Park.
ETA: So don’t send me any postcards. I’ve voted.

@TBone: I am so stealing this! It’s better than my go-to post-retirement response: “What’s a weekend?”
@dmsilev: Also worth stealing! I’ll have to put them on rotation.

@Baud: I’m so glad (or at least the pre-verbal me inside me) that you think SHUMDO! is an appropriate celebratory reaction.

Let’s ask Sarah Huckabee Sanders about what keeps her former boss humble.
Of course, we only ask women to be humble.

The Harris campaign has a twitter account. I wish they did not. maybe they do, too.
Sure Lurkalot
@Nukular Biskits: I was never on Twitter and it always had its edgelord problems but it just seems like a downward spiral to a black hole. I do understand that many good groups use the space to communicate, connect, congregate and organize and it’s difficult to move those mountains.
catclub
@Kosh III: The headline should be ‘Trump refused to send disaster relief to fellow Americans until he learned most were Republicans.’

@Kelly:
I’m hoping for a decrease in strength before it hits but I’m not sure how much difference that would make.
Nukular Biskits
@catclub: @Sure Lurkalot:
The problem is that most all my elected officials use Twitter as a means of “interacting” (and I’m being generous here … it’s more a one-way conversation) with their constituents.
They use Facebook to a lesser extent, IMHO.
Kelly
@Nukular Biskits: Well I’ve just discovered we’re steering the hurricane by heating the water with nuclear submarines. I imagine this is because the space lasers have trouble dealing with the cloud cover.
Nukular Biskits
@Kelly:
Unsure if trolling …
LOL
Jackie
@Nukular Biskits:
Storm surge strength would be the main difference. ATM, TWC projections have Milton dropping to a Cat 3 as it reaches land.🤞🏻
Sure Lurkalot
I want to add to the voices and hope all here in the path of Milton can get to safer places. I can’t imagine what it’s like boarding up your home and running for the hills (so to speak). My heart goes out to you all in the to be affected areas.
Nukular Biskits
@Jackie:
Yeah, but when it drops to a 3 will matter … the winds from a Cat 5 have already started pushing a LOT of water in front of it.
Geminid
@Nukular Biskits: Twitter is still the best way by far to get news about the conflicts in the Middle East, including from the many Middle East-based reporters who utilize the platform.
Quaker in a Basement
“Wait for baby!” is life imitating art, or vice versa. That’s right out of “Still Life with Woodpecker” by Tom Robbins.

@Kelly: The process is similar to curling, except you use subs instead of brooms and the “stone” is a 300 mile wide storm.

@Kelly:
Wow. I posted about 2 hours ago we couldn’t rule out Milton going Cat 5.
NOW the question: are we looking at the first US Cat 6 landfall with wind speeds greater than 200 mph (320 km/h)? With the potential energy available it is a distinct possibility.

This reenactment of Elon Musk with the loathsome piece of shit in Butler, Pennsylvania is comedy gold.

The Audacity of Krope
@Betty: I’m just a little conflicted by the notion of a politician associating himself with an entity he is meanwhile calling out as a bad actor.
I can see why someone might do it, might still reach a larger audience, but it sits funny with me.
WaterGirl
@The Audacity of Krope: I think it’s a ballsy move. I like it.

@The Audacity of Krope: If they’re getting bad info on twitter, then putting the good info on twitter seems to make the most sense to me.

@NotMax:
Sun comes up, sun goes down.
For me it’s been doing this for over 27,400 days. Now early on I didn’t know what was going on, but I’m pretty used to it by now… It’s boring and it isn’t. It’s good and not so good. It’s fun and sometimes not so much. It’s what there is. I’ve had a tornado go by me about 100 yards away driving down the freeway once. I’ve crossed the Atlantic by ship 6 times, and done it in 50+ foot waves one of those times. I’ve crossed the Pacific and Atlantic by plane. I’ve crossed the equator by ship and plane – a number of times. I’ve met idiots and geniuses – more of the first than the second unfortunately, and a hell of a lot of normal humans – of every size, color and nationality. There have been some not so good moments and some absolutely amazing ones. I’ve been to a communist country. I carried a loaded weapon on duty in the military with orders to shoot to kill. I never had to take the weapon out of the holster, other than to unload it to hand over to the next guy. Today I couldn’t say just guy. Today woman serve on ships and in I believe, every aspect of military life. Equal means equal.

It might be both….
