Did any of you catch Kamala Harris on the view today?
How did it go?
Here’s Harris on The View today
Walz will be in Reno, NV today
If you’re the two people waiting on your postcard stamps, the mail lady picked them up yesterday evening, so they are on the way. About 300 postcard stamps left for folks who are sending a TON of postcards. We started with over 4,000 postcard stamps, I think!
What’s everybody up to? I’ve been working and trying to keep all the other balls in the air.
Open thread.

I have done the morning school run, spent a day at work, then drove straight into Town to catch Sandi Toksvig’s show chatting about her new book and being generally dryly hilarious about knowledge, facts and writing.
And now I check in before sleep.
Nix Besser (fmr Steppy)
Just did a batch of 25, to voters in my home state of Pennsylvania. I have 200 total.They go out on October 24.
The Audacity of Krope
I’m about spent on election content. At this point, I just want results.
kindness
I’m looking forward to the Colbert interview.
WaterGirl
@kindness: when is that?
Baud
@The Audacity of Krope:
It sucks being a dedicated antifascist sometimes.
The Audacity of Krope
@kindness: I haven’t watched a Colbert interview in ages, but I recall him being a very capable interviewer. Wonder if he can slip an informative question in past NBC Studios.
This, yes, but to be selfish a moment; this cycle has really drawn out the anxiety.
What Have The Romans Ever Done for Us?
@kindness: Yeah he’s better at interviews and accurately explaining our politics than any of the prestige media outlets anyway.
What Have The Romans Ever Done for Us?
@The Audacity of Krope: We DVR him because my wife and MIL are big fans. He’s much better than e.g. Dana Bash or pretty much anyone in the DC press corps these days.

I’m in Philadelphia today, staying near the airport. I was coming back from the historic district and got stopped by the police a quarter mile from my hotel. Nothing was moving, but there were lots of cops going by. I was hoping that there wasn’t a hostage situation at the hotel. Finally a bunch of black limos and a big Humvee looking thing went by, plus more cops. After that, they let us go.
Now Biden is in Milwaukee today, I don’t think either Harris or Walz is in town, but Trump is doing a rally in Scranton tomorrow. I don’t know why he would be in Scranton tonight, but he seems to be the subject of the motorcade. Kind of glad I didn’t walk up and ask the cops about it at the time
Also glad that I won’t be going to Scranton until Friday.
The Audacity of Krope
@What Have The Romans Ever Done for Us?: I’ve become increasingly convinced that most political news writers wanted to do art criticism, sports, or comedy but weren’t good enough.
I catch Colbert’s monologues and some of his segments on YouTube, but I don’t even have traditional TV to.technically watch his program.
Josie
I’m up to 125 postcards to Nevada. 75 more to go. They will be mailed on October 15. I can usually do around 12 or 13 at a time before writer’s cramp sets in. I am determined to finish this week. Many thanks to whoever sent stamps to WaterGirl. It would have stretched my budget to buy that many stamps. This place rocks.

@Baud: My normie friend was okay at lunch. She thought 60 minutes was great. She’s mainly praying now.
ETA: We did, however, have to relive the trauma of Nov. 2016 once again. She’s a dedicated Hillary stan.
zhena gogolia
@The Audacity of Krope: He overdid the “Biden is old” thing, but he was good during the DNC.
ETA: And I will always give him great credit for that monologue he did while standing next to Dubya.
Baud
@zhena gogolia:
Good soul.
zhena gogolia
@Baud: She met her once and she said, “She just has a glow. And you know you’re in the presence of greatness.” I thought you’d like that.
Anoniminous
Friend sent me a WaPo article criticizing a 2023 paper predicting the Gulf Stream will start to slow in 2025. They said there’s no evidence of a slow down in 2024.
Dumb fucks.
If Harris ever does a interview with the WaPo she needs to demand final edit. The bastards are not trustworthy.
Baud
@zhena gogolia:
I do. Thank you.
The Audacity of Krope
Didn’t everyone? There were more than a handful of content creators during that period who earned their first “Disklike” and half-watched videos from me.
At least one took note of the backlash he was getting from viewers on the matter, Trae Crowder.
BeautifulPlumage
Thanks for the stamps! I’m finishing my 3rd set of 20 cards today before asking for more addresses. I get smaller amounts to make sure I get them sent within a few days. Postcard Patriots hasn’t asked me to hold them for a specific date.
I’m glad to use up some of the crafting supplies my sister left!
zhena gogolia
@The Audacity of Krope: Interesting. I’ll never watch Seth Meyers again. But I never thought he was terribly funny anyway.
The Audacity of Krope
@zhena gogolia: I watch Seth Meyers, though I took a break from him about that same time for that same reason. Overall, though, he’s been my preferred since they took Samantha Bee off the air.
ETA: John Oliver is actually the best, but his segments aren’t as short. Time is a scarce commodity these days.
I also watch Christopher Titus; not for information or accuracy, but because I can’t express rage easily on my own.
Juju
@zhena gogolia: He still tends to overdo the Biden is old thing. His Obama music lists for whatever season are very clever and hilarious.
zhena gogolia
@Juju: Oh, I haven’t seen those.
zhena gogolia
Shit, now they’re ruining Nessun dorma (end of this video).
Parfigliano
Since the Twins are out watching the Mets.
Juju
@zhena gogolia: This is the best I can do for a link. This was the first list.
https://youtu.be/xVfeU7sNvZ0
I hope it works.
geg6
@The Audacity of Krope:
He’s on CBS.
What Have The Romans Ever Done for Us?
@The Audacity of Krope: His “A Closer Look” segments are good.
The Audacity of Krope
@geg6: Sorry, I don’t TV. Same question, though. CBS didn’t impress me much on debate night.
ABC won some points with me, though. They fostered a reasonable conversation and almost never disappointed me with their lime of questioning.
ETA: The lime stays.
@What Have The Romans Ever Done for Us?: That’s all I watch; apparently like many others, much to his oft-demonstrated chagrin.
What Have The Romans Ever Done for Us?
@The Audacity of Krope: I watch his entire show sometimes. I like him.

I got Covid and flu shots yesterday and though the last several boosters haven’t fazed me, the double dose left me mostly horizontal today. So I did watch The View. Kamala did great and the audience was enthusiastic. The questions were mostly okay–nothing made me cringe. I’m so glad MVP is getting out there doing all of these outlets right now.
JWR
Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers are my two late night Must Sees, (I catch Jimmy Kimmel on Youtube), and they’re all great with their guests. So yeah, I’m looking forward to tonight’s Colbert. And I’m almost ashamed to say that one of the most memorable Late Night interviews was the one where Meyers had whatsherface, (Googling now), Megan McCain on, known primarily for being the daughter of whathisface, (no need to Google), and wife of Box turtle Ben Domenech.
Meyers turned McCain’s world upside down that day, and not in a good way, neither. Afterwards, Domenech wrote some nasty things about the interview being a setup, and I thought, “dude, all he did was politely ask your wife a few serious questions, so if anyone set her up, it was her own damn self”, which is exactly what she did.
Here’s a relatively mild, 2-1/2 minute clip from that interview:
The Audacity of Krope
@What Have The Romans Ever Done for Us?: I agree. He’s good. I’m watching him now. But his show is presented to me in segments and my recommends are a very competitive place, my Xbox YouTube knows me better than anyone. My phone recommendations are often good but far less consistent.

What am I doing? My first order of 150 postcards are all done and mailed. My last order of postcards (150) arrived yesterday and I’ve written 9 of them. I stopped at the tiny post office in the borough and bought 150 stamps to go with them*. I downloaded 50 more addresses for CA-47 and another 50 for PA close house races, and according to the addresses some of them have to be PA-10. These are all “make a plan to vote” messages, no candidates mentioned, but they are sent to first-time or infrequent Dem voters.
* Gee, something good about living in a 35% Dem county. Not too many people writing postcards so there hasn’t been a problem getting stamps!

@The Audacity of Krope: “The Lime of Questioning” is going to be the name of my death metal skiffle band.
zhena gogolia
@Juju: Great!
Mike S. (Now with a Democratic Congressperson!)
@The Audacity of Krope: I love it. I have a mental image of the lime of questioning wearing a Deerstalker hat and waving a pipe around as it inqures into things.
The Audacity of Krope
@Mike S. (Now with a Democratic Congressperson!): Man, we’re already getting fragments of a personality. If I were inclined to put in some effort, the lime could be a blog character.
@Central Planning: Brings a whole other sort of energy, but I can see it.
These ideas taken together put me in mind of Aggretsuko. Mild mannered, low-wage employee finds solitude and performs death metal to deal with her emotions. Cute show, cute cat, my ex watched it.
pat
@Nix Besser (fmr Steppy):
They are sent on Oct, 24? Why so late? Is there no early voting in those states? Will they arrive before the election??
strange visitor (from another planet)
@The Audacity of Krope: OT inquiry. what kind of x box do you have/ what kind of games do you play?
Nix Besser
@pat: Good questions. My wife and I have mailed our ballots already. I can only assume that the targeted voters are spotty voters and are not likely to send away for mail-in ballots. Postcards for Swing States has calculated the arrival date. I am trying to get out the in-person vote on Nov. 5.
Jackie
@pat:
That’s up to DeJoy 🤨
Central Planning
@The Audacity of Krope: Exactly. Just trying to share that joie de vivre we will bring to every show.
Also: Aggretsuko now added to my Netflix playlist. 5 Seasons? Yikes!
I once saw a tween band do a death metal version of Let It Go. That was impressive coming out of a 12 year old girl’s mouth.
The Audacity of Krope
@strange visitor (from another planet): I have the Series X. I need the extra storage and my middle-aged ass needs a disc player. My only item of value besides my apartment.
I play a little of everything. My favorite are the relatively open platformers somewhat like Metroid. I used to at a lot of RPGs, but now only if the battle system has a mechanic that interests me or if they do a good job presenting you with moral quandary and the decisions mattering. Also anything with a lot of logic puzzles.
I don’t play a lot of sports, unless they’re sort of elevated and cartoony. Think Mario Baseball or Tennis. The exception there is racing. I like the cartoony and maximally realistic alike. Forza and Mario Kart are heaven, IRL driving is hell.
I don’t think you’ll regret watching at least a couple of episodes. Metal isn’t my vibe but I still enjoyed it.
Already considering search terms and what compromises may be made in the results.

@The Audacity of Krope:
It was a Sunday night at the House of Blues in San Diego. Had no idea what we were going to see.
strange visitor (from another planet)
@The Audacity of Krope: i have a xbox one that’s on its last legs. disk drive is totally dead, meaning nothing from my (vast) dvd and blu-ray collection is available and i can only play my digital library. i’ve already replaced it once before, so i’m not throwing any more loot into the beast bc i’m well, poor.
i like rpgs as well. i’m finishing up elden ring‘s dlc at the moment. i’m a big fan of the arcade-style sims, so like, yeah, the forza horizons series is great, i really like flight “sims” like ace combat 7 and star wars squadrons. my go-to game is the incredible, groundbreaking (for its time) 2016 respawn mech-fps, titanfall 2. damn that game is good.
i’m in dire need of an upgrade.
The Audacity of Krope
@Central Planning: Noted, obliged.
The pandemic society is least willing to address.

My family is finishing the last 100 of the 600 postcards we signed up for via Postcards To Swing States.
300 postcards are destined for voters in Arizona, 300 postcards go out to voters in CA 22 (my home’s district). We have an excellent chance this year to flip it from Republican David Valadao to Democrat Rudy Salas. McCarthy(spit) used to be my rep before the last redistricting. Dolores Huerta knows Rudy and has endorsed him. Rudy was the mayor of Delano, my mom’s home town.
If some stamps are still available, I would appreciate help with the postage which will free up more $$$ for donations to a couple of other Democratic candidates here in California who are running against current Republican congressmen and who have a real chance of winning this year.
The Audacity of Krope
@The Audacity of Krope: Central Planning: Follow up, found several versions. No children. Missed the edit window. Suits me fine.
This one got my first play. …novel, I’d say. I’ll try some others. Their choice for static image was on point, though.
strange visitor (from another planet)
@The Audacity of Krope: lolol…absolutely.
well, that and it’s fruitless to put more money that i don’t really have into the machine because it’s obsolete. hell, the xbox X is about to be obsoleted, but it’s a lot newer than any replacement xbox one or xbox one PART that i could get my hands on.
sunk cost fallacy be damned, i’ve had the original, a 360 and now this one. i know when you gotta let go even when you don’t wanna.
i just wish i could afford a new unit. i just need to find a muuuuuch better paying job.

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert is on CBS, not NBC. But I agree, he can be a capable interviewer.
Scuffletuffle
@Tony Jay: Lucky you, Sandi is an absolute treasure!

Mailing 25 postcards to Native American voters in AZ today. Have a few more batches of cards going out on the 24th.
