An update from CCKids:
Satby asked that I send pics of Ms. Bunny to you when she had settled in from her scary plane/car experience on Tuesday. So here goes!
Ms. Bunny spent the first 36-48 hours straight-up hiding. She was back in a corner behind a desk and tower computer; I could lay on the floor on one hip, with an arm fully extended and stroke her a bit, and she’d even lean her head into my hand for scritches, but there is a short limit to my spine’s tolerance for that position.
By Thursday, though, she had moved to a more accessible hiding spot, under a dresser that’s missing its bottom drawer. If I sat by it and talked to her, she’d peek out but didn’t emerge until I tried a suggestion from Laurel, her former person’s daughter, and asked if she wanted to be brushed. And that brought her out. This makes her unique in my pet experience!
Friday was much the same, a gradual growth of trust, which sadly was violated when my landlord showed up to change my CO2 detector. Ms. Buns did not approve, and wedged herself behind a tall, heavy, FULL bookcase. After a few hours, it seemed that she was stuck, so I emptied it & shifted it enough so she could get out. Back to full-on under the bed hiding.
BUT, it seems that all my effort spent in furniture moving paid off, because Saturday when I called her name, she immediately came out, asking for pets & generally being super lovey. To my great surprise, when I fell asleep with a book Sat. night, I woke up to find her snuggled at my side. She’s a darling girl, and I’m so happy to have her here!
Thank you Satby, for all your care and efforts. You’re fantastic!

I think we can all agree that Satby — and CCKids — are fantastic!
Baud
Satby is goddess.
dc
Gorgeous kitty!
KatKapCC
What a lovely success story!
Citizen Scientist
So glad that you could take her. Kudos to you both!

@Baud: Maybe not a cat lady but definitely a cat whisperer.
Matt McIrvin
Aahh a dilute tortie! Reminds me of my favorite cat of all time, Niobe (RIP). Yes, I play favorites.
satby
@Baud: opinions definitely differ 😉
But how nice is this? I knew what a good girl Bunny was by the fact she didn’t scratch or bite me even through the terror of a TSA check in a chaotic airport. Laurel told me this morning (I think) that Bunny had decided to sneak into bed for snuggles, but I hadn’t heard the bookcase story. Probably Laurel hadn’t either, she’s a worrier.
Happy endings are the best! Now sab has to have her husband take some pictures for us all.

Our cat Baubles is also a complete sucker for brushing. She will jump up on the table by the brush and meow at me to get with it, hoo-man. The only catch is that brushing must be accompanied by the “brush brush song,” which is “brush brush brush the cat” to the tune of “merry old land of Oz.”

Oh, and side note to indycat: Blondie has an approved application for adoption! Good vet and personal references, home visit scheduled. We’re being a bit more picky than usual given his tripod status, but this looks like a very good fit for him.
Redshift
Is she a muted calico? That’s what my parents’ new cat is; I’d never heard of them before.
karen marie
Awww! So cute! Thank you for the update!
And thank you, satby, for making it possible!
MazeDancer
Such a wonderful story. Well done everyone!
satby
@Redshift: she’s a dilute tortoiseshell cat. I have one too. I have every colored cat in my house except a pure white one.

Yay Ms. Bunny 🐈!
Starfish
We have to increase our youth appeal.
@Baud:
satby
@ssdd: Ok, that sounds really cute!
cckids
@Redshift: Yes, muted/dilute tortiseshell/calico, makes for perfect camouflage. She’s damn hard to see when she hides
edit: or, what satby said :)
Indycat32
@satby: wonderful news. I was just thinking about that sweet boy today.
satby
Also want to note several jackals contributed to cover the gas and other transportation costs, with a special thank you to zhena gogolia, who paid for Bunny’s airfare! Really could not have done it without everyone’s help.
satby
@Indycat32: He’s an angel!
Kobe Kid
This post made my morning, thank you for sharing!
Indycat32
@satby: Did you tell his new human to prepare for major snuggling?
satby
@Indycat32: I was in Seattle when the family came and visited Blondie in the PetSmart adoption center. So the marvelous cat whisperer Becky is handling it. She’s our board president and also my cat sitter.
satby
@Kobe Kid: you have a beautiful rescue organization website yourself!
Betty
Ms. Bunny looks like a sweetheart. So happy to see these success stories. What a beautiful effort by Satby to make it happen.

Yay for Ms. Bunny, who is a beautiful cat! And kudos to satby, cckids, zg, and everyone else who contributed to this happy ending. Thank you, AL, for posting this feline photographic essay.

@satby: Thank you, we’re doing our best to get the ball rolling here in Japan. When we started 35 years ago reputable groups were few and far between but we have more players in the game now.

What a perfect getting-to-know-each-other experience. I’m so glad you are now each other’s person/cat. Thank you for sharing the story.
narya
This whole story makes me so happy; love you all.
zhena gogolia
What a sweetie! Congratulations, and thank you, satby!

Fantastic!
Kristine
A lovely happy ending.

Laurel’s mother must have been a lovely person. Her cats are all so sweet.
I am working on figuring out how to photograph my two guys. My photography skills in the modern elextronic world are nil. AlsoSolomon is a sweetie but only comes out after dark. Echo is huge and sweet, but she tends to tackle with affection
ETA Echo is the biggest cat I have ever seen. She looks like a shorthaired Maine Coon. Solly is just a middle size cat. I cannot believe they are related
ETA again. My pitbull is disappointed and frustrated. She loves cats. Solly isn’t afraid of her anymore, but he just isn’t into her at all. She whimpers and he ignores her. Echo is still afraid of her. Echo is amazingly timid for a cat her size.

Ms. Bunny is beautiful, and looks like a right darling.
Great galloping kudos to everyone who was part of this rescue operation!
columbusqueen
What a beautiful girl!

My partner Mike has a “Bunny” who’s similar in coloration. He’s part of the semi-feral colony at Mike’s house.
