Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Let the trolls come, and then ignore them. that’s the worst thing you can do to a troll.

“Facilitate” is an active verb, not a weasel word.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

Someone should tell Republicans that violence is the last refuge of the incompetent, or possibly the first.

Republicans don’t lie to be believed, they lie to be repeated.

The current Supreme Court is a dangerous, rogue court.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

You’re just a puppy masquerading as an old coot.

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

You are so fucked. Still, I wish you the best of luck.

Republicans cannot even be trusted with their own money.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

Now that the High Holy Days are over, I feel like I have a teeny bit of energy for phone banking–can’t walk enough to knock on doors any more. Who should I volunteer with to make the best use of my time? I’m in NJ, if that makes any difference, and my vote is already IN THE BANK.

people, it’s over: even noted unserious person Geraldo Rivera has endorsed Kamala Harris

(this will matter to morons, who I am assuming make up at least 1% of the trumpov base)

    from Twitter:

    Sore Loser

With three weeks to go until Election Day, Donald J. Trump stands a reasonable chance of becoming the 47th President of the United States. Despite assassination attempts, impeachments, special counsels, felony convictions and hundreds of millions in civil penalties, most polls show his race against V.P. Kamala Harris is too close to call. The first time he ran for president in 2016, he was coming off the last season of Celebrity Apprentice. I had a front row seat as a finalist on that final season and marveled at his audacity with his checkered past to seek the highest office in the land. Then, in the blink of an eye, he went from novice to formidable challenger to victorious over Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

As President he was a loyal friend, who allowed regular access. My resulting coverage gave him the benefit of most doubts. His presidency was underrated. Throughout his first big scandal in office, the 2017-2019 Mueller Investigation into allegations Trump conspired with Russia to undermine our political process, I stuck with him, deeply suspicious of constant efforts to undermine his Administration. The last time President Trump and I spoke was Friday, November 13, 2020, when he called me at home. It was ten days after his narrow lost to Joe Biden. He was calling to get my take on the controversies surrounding the election, which appeared to have been decided by a handful of votes in several states. I asked him what he would do if the vote count remained against him. As I reported on Fox News that same morning, Friday the 13th, he told me he was a reasonable man and would do the right thing if that time came. It never did. Instead, President Trump embarked on an increasingly menacing campaign to discredit the 2020 election. With a motley supporting cast of increasingly fringe characters, he careened from one bizarre theory to the next, offering no meaningful proof, that he had been robbed by the Democrats. None exists.

If you are a Republican, Donald Trump has made a liar of you. He has coaxed and intimidated tens of millions into pretending he was reelected in 2020, and that the election was stolen. In furtherance of that Big Lie, on January 6, 2021, Trump incited and unleashed the violent attack on the center of democracy, the U.S. Capitol for which he was Impeached. As his followers trashed that sacred space, he was on the phone urging Vice President Mike Pence essentially to overturn the will of the American people. Pence refused to put Trump ahead of the Constitution. Trump stabbed the Constitution in the back. Maybe you are inclined to vote for the former president anyway, because he says he will cut your taxes or build the border wall or pull out of NATO or put tariffs on China. However, you justify voting for Trump, adopting his big lie about the stolen election makes you a liar. Better to admit he lost last time but that you don’t care because a Harris presidency would be a disaster, or you admire his defiance in the face of an assassin’s bullet. Just don’t pretend that he got robbed in 2020. That is a lie.

Former President Trump is a sore loser who cannot be trusted to honor the Constitution. That is why I am voting for Kamala Harris to be our 47th President.

Ranger-led programs are offered daily during the winter season and cover topics ranging from history to geology to space! These do not require a reservation- just show up (we recommend arriving at least 5 minutes before the start of the program).

We also have special ticketed tours requiring advance reservation which guide visitors to remote or closed areas of the park. Whatever experience you choose, we hope that through the connections you make, you will fall in love with this special place.

Click through the collapsing panels below to find more information. You can also visit our calendar to check out upcoming events that will be happening during your visit.

But we’re not going to let that happen because it was toward the end and we’re not gonna ever let that happen again. You would have so much water. I read where in Beverly Hills and Bel Air they want to bring you down to like 28 gallons a person. You know, that sounds like a lot. But you know what that is like about a seven-minute shower. You know, you spend a fortune for a house and you can’t take a shower. So, uh, we’re gonna take care of our farmers. We’re going to take care of your water situation and we’ll force it down his throat and we’ll say Gavin, if you don’t do it, we’re not giving you any of that fire money that we send you all the time for all the fire forest fires that you have.”

I love the food, some good wine, football and getting to take home an entire one of my sister’s fabulous pumpkin pies because my birthday almost always falls on or within a few days of Thanksgiving.  And I mostly don’t like cake, so pie is my preference and pumpkin pie my favorite.

Plans by SpaceX to launch more rockets from Southern California next year have been nixed by the state’s Coastal Commission.

According to a report in the Los Angeles Times, part of the reasoning for rejecting the rocket company’s expanded launch schedule was due to CEO Elon Musk’s controversial posts on social media and his recent foray into U.S. politics.

The California Coastal Commission officially voted to reject the SpaceX plans last Thursday. Musk’s company had hoped to launch as many as 50 rockets per year from Vandenberg Space Force Base located in northern Santa Barbara County.

The proposal had the backing of both the U.S. Air Force and Space Force, who vowed to help come up with solutions for loud disruptive sonic booms that can often be heard from several counties over.

I’m gonna say yes. I don’t like Rogan, and he holds some very odd beliefs and espouses some abject nonsense, but the man can conduct an interview. He’s very good at it, and he uses the conversational style, allows his guest to answer and speak at length, he does seem to honestly want to learn from what they have to offer.

I don’t expect any sort of shock jock environment because that’s not his style. If nothing else, he’s a media pro. He’ll treat Kamala with respect, both for her person and her position, and it will reach a lot of men in ways that just doesn’t happen through other media.

Regarding the town hall, here’s the spin:

“The safety and well-being of President Trump’s supporters is always his top priority,” Karoline Leavitt, Trump’s campaign press secretary, said in a statement to ABC News after the event. “The two individuals who fainted were immediately given medical attention. As President Trump said tonight, they are great patriots,” Leavitt added.

Except for the dead fireman whose widow he joked about.

“To lighten the mood, President Trump turned the town hall into an impromptu concert and the crowd loved it,” Leavitt told ABC News, adding, “The room was full of joy.”

Impromptu concert? Guess who amplified that bee ess. ABC News

Following the concert, Trump made his way to the front row, signing red MAGA hats and 47 signs.

    Concert, yeah right.

    @HumboldtBlue:

Kristi Noem in heels is as tall as Trump. Per a very brief Google search she’s 5’8” tall.

I wish someone with media reach would point this out just to try to under Trump’s thin skin.

    @gene108:

Thanks for reminding me of that resource! I’ve signed up with the Sue Altman campaign, to take back the NJ-7 seat in the congressional district just to my north, where I worked like hell to get Tom Malinowski elected in 2018 & ’20, and the state Dem party basically hung him out to dry during redistricting. A quick skim of regional news tells me the race is close, and for me it’s personal, so I’m going to be phone banking with them.

A federal appeals court will weigh whether to allow Donald Trump a second shot to argue that his hush-money case should be moved from New York state court into a federal courtroom.

The latest move from the former president’s legal team comes after U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein rejected Trump’s request last month seeking permission to make a new argument that his criminal case should be moved into the federal court system in light of the Supreme Court’s ruling this summer on presidential immunity, CNN reported.

    @Scout211:

And the supporters staying for 30-45 minutes dancing and singing with him? Super weird.

And everyone was jerking off two invisible penises!
